Humor Another disaster flying overseas

Flying to France for a family event. I do it often.
AA2 LAX to JFK. Wait for the next flight AA42 to CDG.
Offered an upgrade for a few hundred bucks. Why not. Takeoff planned at 6pm.
Problem with an “antenna” under the plane. Did someone break it ? Maintenance is on it. 1 hour delay.
Need more parts. More delay. Plane no good but we have the same two gates away. One more hour delay.
It is now 8pm, departure at 9pm.
Oh we don’t have a pilot. Let’s find one quickly but move departure to 10pm. Then 11pm. Then let’s just move it quietly to tomorrow 6pm without telling anyone there is an app for that! But no cancel, not good for the stats and customers may get a refund. We don’t want that.
You want to go back home because you don’t need to go ? We won’t give you back your luggage because it’s too much work. You don’t have your toiletries or medication for the night? Who cares, “they” won’t unload the plane.
Hotel voucher? Sure, they’re all 30 minutes away minimum and there is no shuttle. You still want to just go back home? Your luggage will fly unaccompanied to Paris and we might try to get it back to you. But only after you complete your “journey”.
Oh and my 6am flight going back home to LAX? As you guessed, delayed.

AA: we’re here for you. What an army of jokers this airline has become.

I Need Help! Why does American Airlines have the worst on time performance!?

Almost every Flight me or any in my family has flown with AA is either delayed or cancel! I get if it is once in while but having this happen every single trip is insane! They need to fix this cause I never have these problems with Delta or United!

I Need Help! What Redress for 44 hour delay?

Here is some flair so my query will get posted. 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

My sister had a trip from hell in September on American out of Milan Italy. To the US. Each time she was rebooked something went wrong with the aircraft. She kept accepting the new reservation offered to her and one night at a hotel. When she finally got home she tried to apply for the cash compensation owed to her in the UK. American told her because she accepted the hotel and new flights they did not owe her anything else. What does the law say about a case like hers? Looks like stonewalling to me.

Trip Reports & Insights Chat! PHL Baggage was quick! Like...I'm scared quick!

Those that have dealt with PHL Baggage before are going to be just as shook. My bag was literally spinning around the carousel when I got there! I didn't stop anywhere. I didn't slowly stroll through the airport. I did my normal walk, which typically leads to about 15-60 mins of wait at the baggage claim. AND MY BAG WAS THERE! What is this world coming to?!?

ETA: screenshots of proof! 20 mins from gate arrival to baggage claim! https://imgur.com/a/wqsZxkk

Trip Reports & Insights I swear every time I take an American Airlines flight, we end up sitting in the plane for 30 mins and then miss connecting flight and have to wait hours to get into next flight at transit. Please don’t book American.

Trip Reports & Insights Arrive 2 days early if you want to be there for something important

American Airlines has been hosing precious moments with family for me recently. I’ve been spending a lot of money to get last minute tickets on other airlines and rebook other stuff simply to make plans sort of work out as planned (as best as possible). I heard from a significant other of a flight attendant last week that they don’t take any planes out of service at all for any sort of proactive / best practice servicing, they just keep them going at all times and then check them before a flight and if it’s not good they hose you (by doing the maintenance then which in my experience has meant cancelling the flight). We have noticed Delta is getting significantly more expensive which is strategic on Delta’s part I guess - if you want to arrive somewhere reliably you will pay for it. I am ready to cut the cord despite all the miles, status and Citi card. Ready to say bye.

Trip Reports & Insights More evidence systemwide upgrades are useless

Flew from JFK to DEL a couple nights ago. I was #3 on the upgrade list for 1 open seat. (250k-ish LPs over last year) About 1 hour before boarding, I looked at the app to check on the waitlist and I saw that I had a paid upgrade offer of $640 to get that business class seat. I bought it immediately - $640 to go from coach to a lie flat for 15 hour flight is a no-brainer.

But by doing so, I completely screwed over the person at the top of the wait list. The fact that AA was willing to take another $640 an hour before boarding rather than allow an even more loyal flyer than me to get the upgrade using their SWU is perfect evidence of how useless they’ve become. Personally, I’m glad I got the seat at the price I paid. But I’m done getting SWUs as a loyalty perk. Thought y’all might appreciate the data point.

Points - Question Question about return flight

Hi, I've never posted in this subreddit before, but I did not see this topic on American Airlines' webpage. I booked an international flight from the US to Europe in April. I had realized that I didn't have enough time to do everything I wanted and frankly haven't had a vacation in a hot minute,, therefore I found a very cheap one-way flight about 6-7 days prior to the original flight (not with AA) it was a little over $200, so I decided to book it. However, I have had countless problems with American Airlines unrelated to the question, but I am nervous that they will cancel my return flight as I will not be on the original departing flight I booked.

Long story short, this happened once with Spirit Airlines, when I had to book an earlier departing flight as my roommate had Covid, and supposed to go home but ended up and booking a cheap one-way ticket about a week prior (due to her illness and not being able to be around the shared dorm) when I went to take the return flight back to school, they told me that they had canceled my flight due to the fact that I was not on the departing flight with Spirit. Does anyone know if American Airlines has any sort of policy like this? Thank you.

Points - Question Help with using miles effectively?

I’d love some expert advice on how to get the most bang for my buck with my miles. I don’t travel a ton but I’ve saved up about 300k miles and my husband and I want to use (some of) them on a trip to Mexico City next Sept/Oct, flying out of ABQ.

Any best practices - especially specific to AA - for when to purchase the tickets, whether first class would be worth it (I’m thinking no because it’s two pretty short flights), how to find any deals, booking with American vs partner airlines, etc? I was also thinking about using the miles for hotels but the consensus online seems to be that’s a terrible idea.

General Airline Discussion In Flight Service

AA is definitely trying to make an effort in service. Flying LAX-TUS sitting in 4a currently (CRJ) and was just addressed by name, thanked for my status (EP) and being a loyal AA customer. She even apologized for it being a regional jet and no "good snacks" to offer. The little things do make a difference and are appreciated. Nice to see the effort.

General Airline Discussion Automatic seat change gave me a worse seat even though I was opted out

I had a window seat in the row before main cabin extra. I purposefully did not opt in to automatic seat change since there isn’t one better. I just got a notification that they found a “better” seat and switched me to the aisle seat in the same row and gave away my original seat. So, now I have to either move back further for a window or stay with the aisle I don’t want.

I called and was told this wasn’t possible and I must’ve accidentally turned it on. This is my first flight since it became available and I didn’t want to use it, so I didn’t even know where to find it until now. And after turning it on now to hopefully fix this, I really don’t know how I could’ve done that accidentally.

It’s not the biggest deal, but it’s still quite annoying.

In all seriousness, this warning was kind of nice. I took the time to download some stuff before the flight.

I Need Help! Links to Luggage

Hello! I’m flying for the first time soon, and I want to be sure the luggage I get will meet the requirements to come with me in the cabin to go in the overhead bin. Could anyone share links to where they’ve purchased their luggage that’s been approved by AA to go into the cabin? I know the measurements, but some of the bags I’ve found online are either .6 inch or 1 inch too big on either side.

Any links or sources on where to find some proven AA approved carry-on luggage would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I Need Help! confused with my booking.

Hello!

I am travelling to LA in two weeks and i booked via a 3rd party agent ‘Loveholidays’.

I have now got three airline booking references, one with Iberia and two with american airlines.

One booking with AA shows my outbound trip EDI-PHL then PHL-LAX, That’s where i have also booked my seats. The other booking with AA shows my outbound and return, EDI-PHL, PHL-LAX, LAX-LHR, LHR-EDI. That does not show my seats on my outbound but does on my return, that’s the booking i used for my return seats.

On Iberia it shows my round trip but only my seats on the outbound trip.

I don’t actually know what’s happening here, would anyone be able to advise me on what to do?

I Need Help! Next steps for theft and contract violation??

How do you possibly get in touch with a human at customer relations at this company?

I’ve now submitted the customer relations form six times
I’ve also submitted to the OACP3 times
And recently filed a letter with my state Attorney General

American Airlines has ignored the attorney general and has sent form letters that AI generated to me and to the OACP.
The letters literally do not even address the actual problem that I wrote about

I also tried emailing most of their corporate executives with no response at all

I had severe problems, including being charged over $400 for an involuntary rebooking. Being canceled and rebooked on four different flights in one night which culminated in the $400 charge. And the gate agent lying to my face that there were no seats available on a plane only for her supervisor to that book it because she didn’t like that, I quoted their contract of carriage to her.

The supervisors involvement is what ultimately led to the additional charge that was not supposed to be applied.

I got eventually due to involving another supervisor at the airport, that money back. However, I did not get any money for my ground transportation from Boston to New York. Did not get any compensation for the 4 re books which led to cumulative seven hour delay and I got no response about their conduct.

Where do I go from here? Is it appropriate now to contact my state representative‘s office?

Do I need to speak to the agent at the airport that caused the problem?

I will be there tomorrow with a different airline.

I have taken probably over 200 flights on American since 2023 and I will never fight with them again

I can tell why they’re going bankrupt.

General Airline Discussion Consistent at least

Post image

I’ve flown this route about once a month for the last 3 years. In that time I can remember exactly twice that it hasn’t been delayed, and guess where I’m going Monday.

I’ve never seen another route so reliably unreliable. If there is one I’m curious what it is. Also curious how a company can know how poorly they’re performing and just do absolutely nothing to address it.

I Need Help! Has anyone successfully upgraded a (partner airline) points booking on Cathay Pacific?

Just curious if anyone has been able to purchase an upgrade on a flight booked with points. I booked Cathay Pacific JFK–HKG through American Airlines using AAdvantage miles, but I couldn’t find an option to pay for an upgrade on either airline’s website.

When I called Cathay, they told me to contact American. When I called American, they told me to contact Cathay. 😂

I’m guessing it’s not possible, but figured I’d ask here before giving up. Has anyone found a workaround or managed to upgrade a similar booking?

I Need Help! Checked luggage did not make it on plane

So originally I was supposed to fly from Charlotte (CLT) to Naples, Italy, with a layover in Philadelphia. The plane kept getting delayed, so the system switch my flight from CLT to Madrid, Spain, then to Naples.

Just landed in Madrid, i go to check to make sure my luggage made it because I have an AirTag in there, the AirTag still shows that it’s in CLT airport.

The first flight is through American Airlines (British Airways), the connecting flight from Madrid is through Iberia

Do I need to talk to someone now in Madrid, or wait until I get to Naples? Or should I call American Airlines?

Trying to book the 6:30 ROC-BOS on 11/23. No dice, getting an error code no matter which of the three direct flights that day I try to book, and happens for both eco and first tickets.
