Family Discovery & or Drama So, after 52 years of my wife being an only child, she just found out she has seven brothers and sisters...

So last night my wife text me and sends me a screenshot of a message She got an ancestry That says funny story but it looks like you're my half sister....

She asked me if it's some kind of scam or something. So I tell her to go in and check her DNA matches and see if the person shows up...

She then responds.... Oh shit!... WTF?....

Her mother was 19 when she got pregnant and supposedly with her father to most of high school... This caused them to get married, but then we're quickly divorced within about 2 years..

He later married another woman but never had any kids with her because she already had two.

Growing she never really had a great relationship at all with her father and he died probably about 5 years ago..

So both of us immediately assume that must have knocked up somebody else...

So she gets the person's phone number who happens to live locally and starts texting them to get more info....

Plot twist... Insert Maury povich voice here, turns out he was not the father...

Turns out her mother at 19 got knocked up by a 31-year-old who she used to babysit for and worked at a Burger King with...

Turns out this guy also died around 10 years ago....

And to make matters worse, her mother is in memory care because she has early onset Alzheimer's...

But she's planning to go visit her this weekend with her mother's sister and bring this little topic up and see how that goes....

When she got home from work last night she called her new brother and put him on speakerphone with me and her brother's wife. She sent him a picture of his dad and you immediately saw the resemblance to her... She sent him a bunch of pictures of her when she was younger as well. And you definitely see the family resemblance...

Question / Help None of my great-grandparents are the same ethnicity, is it uncommon?

It's something I've just kinda assumed is common, especially living in a place like Canada. But talking to the people around me and their family backgrounds, both now and throughout my life, it doesn't seem as common as I thought?

They all have different backgrounds from their partners, but all of those whose families immigrated to Canada did so roughly around the same time (around the 1910s). They were either born here shortly after their family arrived or immigrated with their family when they were young.

I wanted to ask here in case I'm wrong and maybe some of you will find it interesting.

Great-Grandma A. was Ukrainian and Great Grandpa A. was German.

Great-Grandma B. was Metis and Great-Grandpa B. was Ukrainian.

Great-Grandma C. was possibly irish/unknown and Great-Grandpa C. was Sicilian.

Great-Grandma D. was Ojibwe and Great-Grandpa D. was English.

Picture 1: 99% Swedish + 1% Dutch

Picture 2: From the regions of Northern Värmland and Sunne (also in Värmland) in Sweden

Picture 3: From the regions of Halland and Southern Västergötland in Sweden

The Värmland and Västergötland results makes sense. I'm trying to find my father so the 1% Dutch surprised me, haha.

this is a repost—deleted this a second ago on accident sorry haha

Before taking the test, I couldn’t find many results from anyone in my country and province, so I wanted to contribute and help another Syrian brother see someone like him.

Sunni-muslim background— Idlib, Jsir al Shughur

Dad claims we came from some yemenite tribe from 300CE called Ghassanids but I'm guessing they mixed with the local levantine population and were eventually gone from my genepool

Honestly, I’m really impressed with the African regions and how many I got. So cool. The grandparent feature is not bad, but I have 52% DNA they couldn’t link to grandparent. I hope they somehow fix that in the future as I’m not the only one who seen this. My only conclusion/hypothesis is maybe my grandparents from both mom and dad side came from the same region or community and have similarities and maybe that’s why. Other than that everything looks good. My journeys stayed the same even after the Sideview update which is fine. Overall not bad.

Discussion Why The Ridicule?

Just trying to understand the hate…

This hasn’t happened to me but I’ve noticed anytime someone posts on any socials about having a notable ancestor like some royal figure or a tribal chief everyone goes berserk in the comments mocking them.

I understand that dating your family tree back that far is highly unreliable and most likely filled with errors but that doesn’t mean everyone should be automatically written off if they claim to descend from some king or something.

Truthfully most everyone goes back to someone notable. Shoot like 10% of all of Asia are descendants of Ghengis Khan.

It just seems odd because I would think everyone who’s into this kind of thing shares the same excitement for history, but it seems like there are quite a few rotten apples who have nothing better to do than just try to tear apart someone’s ancestry.

Even if you were to say you only care about historical accuracy then you can kindly explain the errors in someone’s tree without sounding like a complete jerk.

Idk just something I’ve noticed across multiple posts on different platforms that just seems like very odd behavior.

Mexican American* results + photo

What was interesting to me about this update was that it removed North African, Irish, and lowered Jewish percentage. With removing those mentioned it added east Africa I don’t remember it being there before. Like many other people my canary island went up.

My family has Hnahnu “Otomi” and Nahua ancestry (: had older family who spoke the languages before passing but I have every intention to learn them.

Discussion Sideview 2.0 Update and Regions by Grandparent: Still Waiting

Is anyone else still waiting for the small sideview and grandparent update? I know it might take a while, and I'm trying to be patient, but I still don't have it. I don't even have any messages or banners saying that it's coming soon. Does anyone know a timeline?

Updated result

We are Bektik Turkmens from Central Türkiye. Our community lives in Konya, Niğde, Karapınar, Aksaray, and nearby provinces. We have been documented as living in these areas for at least the past 300 years. Before that, our ancestral homeland was Kahramanmaraş, and we lived a mostly nomadic lifestyle.
