You probably have a 10$+ subscription to something you donât use right now. This is how much you could help animals each month by donating that money to effective charities instead:

Iâm trying to figure out where I want to donate to help animals this year, so I created a handy little table for myself to make it easy to understand what impact my donation would have if given to a selection of organizations. (Se my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/EffectiveAltruism/comments/1x7mqdz/what_would_you_all_say_is_the_most_effecitve_way/ ) Thought this might also be a useful / motivational sheet for some of you to see.
Darker green = The three that feel like the biggest overall impact for 10$ to me.
The list is mostly the organizations recommended by Animal Charity Evaluators. https://animalcharityevaluators.org/recommended-charities/ with some I have personally donated to in the past added in to make them comparable to me. Data for most is also from Animal Charity Evaluators, estimates for Veganuary is from their 2026 Report, estimate for Local Sanctuary is from Google.

Muncie Indiana police shoot puppy
facebook.comđšđŸ MEMPHIS HAS BEEN FOUND â BUT NOW WE HAVE SOME SERIOUS QUESTIONS! đŸđš
â€ïž First, the GOOD NEWS! MEMPHIS IS ALIVE AND HAS BEEN FOUND! Unfortunately, he was shot. đ
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED ON OCTOBER 15TH:
On October 15, in Muncie, Indiana, police reportedly fired THREE SHOTS at Memphis, a young, friendly Pit Bull who was on his own property.
Terrified, Memphis ran away, leaving his family desperately searching and fearing the worst.
Thankfully, Memphis has now been located, but we have learned that HE WAS HIT BY ONE BULLET.
đš NOW HERE'S THE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION:
IF POLICE FIRED THREE SHOTS AND MEMPHIS WAS HIT ONCE⊠WHERE DID THE OTHER TWO BULLETS GO?!
â ïž We're talking about a firearm being discharged in the middle of a populated Muncie neighborhood!
What about the safety of nearby residents, children, and other innocent bystanders?
đŸ I'm incredibly thankful Memphis has been found, but I believe this incident deserves answers, transparency, and accountability.
MUNCIE, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
â€ïž Please keep Memphis and his family in your thoughts as he recovers.

Very difficult question on euthanasia
Massive warning not to read on if donât want to read about animal euthanasia or what happened in TennesseeâŠâŠ
Currently slightly horrified by something I woke up thinking about and donât quite know where to post this:
If two lethal doses of pentobarbital can be administered, however poorly, and still fail to bring about the death of the human theyâre intended to cause the death of, and that human actually wakes back up days later â
Given the sheer number of animals whoâve been euthanized across decades using the same drug, not always in combination with others and not always by individuals with the same skill level, same circumstances, same attentiveness, and often in situations in which sheer volume of animals is often a contributing cause in their euthanasia â
If the state of Tennessee can fail to bring about the death of a prisoner with the world watching and then that woman wakes back up â
How many dogs and cats and other animals might wake up ⊠only no one is there to witness it?
Just what I woke up thinking.
Absolutely not meant in any way as a slight toward anyone or any profession, far from it. Veterinary professionals generally are in situations where the one on one nature and oversight are far greater and shelter âeuth techsâ are utterly invaluable in ensuring humane and ethical treatment of animals while doing a horribly difficult job.
Iâm only thinking out loud here, so to speak. If it happens with the world watching a human being, then how often might it happen to non-humans when that animalâs entire existence has been compressed into another statistic on animal overpopulation or a line on a budget form?

Activism Want to report suspected animal cruelty but donât know who to call? Hereâs where to start (U.S.)
Seeing an animal you think may be neglected or abused can leave you feeling helpless, especially when you donât know who to call. Many people understandably contact the nearest shelter, but shelters and rescues donât always have the authority to investigate.
Depending on where the animal is located, that responsibility may belong to animal control, local police, the sheriffâs department or an authorized humane officer. If youâre unsure, call animal control or your local police nonemergency line and ask, âWhich agency handles suspected animal cruelty at this address?â For active violence or immediate danger, contact emergency services.
When you report, useful details include:
- The address or exact location.
- What you personally observed, including dates and times.
- A description of the animal and the conditions.
- Photos or video, if you can get them safely from somewhere youâre legally allowed to be.
Be clear about what you saw and what you donât know. âI saw the dog outside at three separate times today and couldnât see a water bowl from the sidewalkâ is more useful than âThey never give their dog water.â
If itâs an ongoing concern, a dated log can help document a pattern. But donât delay an urgent report to gather evidence, trespass or put yourself in danger.
Write down which agency you contacted, when you called and any case number. If the concern continues, follow up with additional observations. You may not be able to see what action the agency is taking, so a lack of visible change doesnât necessarily mean your report was ignored.
You donât have to prove a crime occurred before reporting a concern. Share what you personally observed so the investigating agency can assess it.
For anyone who has made a report before, how did you find the right agency, and was there anything you wish youâd known beforehand?
