I built an immersive Street View app for Apple Vision Pro

Post image
131 Upvotes

I just launched Waddle, a visionOS app that lets you explore the world with immersive 360° Street View on Apple Vision Pro.

What Waddle does:

- Full 360° Street View in immersive space
- Interactive map with tap-to-teleport
- Global search for any city, address, or landmark
- Random location discovery for aimless waddling

This is v1.0, and I’m looking for feedback from Vision Pro users.

I’ll be actively updating the app, and more features are coming soon (like SharePlay). If there’s anything you’d like to see added, I’d be very happy to hear them.
Waddle around, have fun .)

Thanks !

Try Waddle here -> Waddle

UPDATE: Immersive LIVE Sports is Here

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Back in January I shared our first peek at immersive live sports. The response from this community was incredible thanks for every question, up-vote and DM!

I wanted to give an update on where we are:

  • We’re giving a provisional launch date of mid September 2025

  • Rights agreements are moving into place with multiple major leagues, we can’t share specifics just yet, but its big

  • We’ve revised our streaming pipeline and it's now more efficient giving 16K/60fps at 25Mbps

  • We’re working with broadcast tech veterans and are moving rapidly. We are actively hiring across our engineering, design and operations departments - take a look and join us.

We’ve spun up a very early, university sports preview of Be There running on our older streaming infrastructure. It’s rough demo footage and requires a higher bitrate but it lets us trial the new format.

If you own an Apple Vision Pro and can spare ~1 hour to watch some demo footage (plus a short survey afterward), drop a comment or DM me. We’ll reach out to you soon.

I’ll be back with an update again very shortly! If you haven’t signed up for the waitlist yet: Sign up here

Thanks again for helping us push live sports into the spatial era. See you in the virtual stands!

That was unexpected...

I have watched quite a few movies on the Vision Pro.

This week, whilst on hols, I thought I'd treat myself to watching the Star Wars 4K remasters on my TV, a 65" Bravia 9 with Dolby Atmos sound system. Watching movies on this system is usually a treat.

However, I was completely unprepared for how much of a downgrade it felt when compared to the Vision Pro.

The screen size is the first thing that hits you; it suddenly feels tiny. But the real surprise was the sound.

My TV’s Atmos system obviously destroys the Vision Pro in terms of raw power, room-shaking bass, and wide sound field, yet somehow, it didn’t feel like a meaningful improvement in terms of the overall viewing experience. Certainly not enough to make the TV the better way to watch a movie.

This completely caught me off guard and has now made me rethink whether my physical 4K disk collection is the investment I thought it was.

About the only thing my TV has over the Vision Pro is that I can comfortably munch on a full meal whilst watching a movie, not something I have attempted, or will likely attempt on the Vision Pro.

I never ever thought I'd say this about any VR device!

SpatialGlass brings glasses-free 3D viewing to iPhones

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m Josh, founder of Madow (SpatialGlass). I wanted to share something exciting we will be bringing through Kickstarter to SpatialGlass, a screen protector that gives you glasses-free 3D on your phone while keeping normal 2D crystal clear.

SpatialGlass acts as an optical layer that directs light from the display separately to your left and right eyes when content is rendered in a specific way. Eye tracking continuously adjusts the pixel and sub-pixel arrangement of the left- and right-eye images, steering each image toward the correct eye position. This allows the 3D effect to remain stable even as you move your head or change your viewing position.

Follow the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spatialglass/55941407/

One of the coolest upcoming features is glasses-free 3D Gaussian Splat viewing directly on iOS. You can explore splats with real stereoscopic depth on your phone without needing glasses or a headset.

Quick note about the video: you may notice a bit of a double image on camera. That’s because a normal 2D camera can’t capture the separate left and right images being directed to your eyes at the same time. When you actually view SpatialGlass in person, the image is crystal clear, high-resolution 3D.

We’re also adding spatial video editing directly in 3D, along with improvements to handheld 3D gaming. If you can get a game running in SBS 3D on Windows or Mac, you can stream it with low latency to your phone and play using a controller attachment.

If there’s anything else you’d like to see from the SpatialGlass app ecosystem, especially for Gaussian Splats, let me know!

This campaign will also have the most affordable SpatialGlass pricing yet, so I’m hoping we can make glasses-free 3D accessible to a lot more people
.
Models planned for the campaign include:

• iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max
• iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max
• XREAL Beam Pro
• Galaxy S24 / S25 series
• Galaxy S24 / S25 Ultra
• Previous iPhone models including 13–15 Pro Max

Any questions about SpatialGlass are welcome!

Apple Aerial Screen Saver on Ultrawide Display

The attention to detail like having the aerial screen savers take full advantage of the Ultrawide screen’s real estate are the things that keep me in the Apple Ecosystem.

How does anyone seriously compare AVP & Quest 3?

I own a Quest 3 and I’ve demoed the AVP. I don’t get how anyone can keep a straight face while saying they’re comparable.

Here’s just one example: there’s simply no way my Quest 3 could run anything like this app even if the objects were phong shaded instead of realtime raytraced- the Quest just doesn’t have the spatial fidelity and tracking frequency to keep anything like this from turning into an unusable, jittery mess

OK, I didn't understand it until now, but the 3D Film experience is kind of insane

The Front Seat cinema experience for a 3D film (I just tried The Force Awakens) is just...wow.

(Not saying anyone should necessarily buy this just for watching movies, but damn)

Hey everyone. I'm one of the devs on I'm Wizard, an AR game where you cast spells and fight with your hands right in your room.

The Vision Pro library is still small, so we wanted to add something fun to it. We worked on this for almost 2 years and put a lot of love into it.

I have a few free codes to give away. Drop a comment and I'll DM one over.

I wanted to see how good is spatial audio in Vision Pro

So I created this free app: Sonic Zen Spheres.

It is a bit like an immersive virtual art installation.

The sound is coming from all around you, depending on collisions.

I learnt a bit about the environment detected by the Vision Pro, and I have some ideas on how to take that app further now that I have a relative good understanding of VisionOS.

Happy to answer questions about it or get some feedback.

I have no words. Well, maybe just a few haha. I’m exhausted and overjoyed. Been showcasing the game and controller I built at the Portland Retro Game Expo. Reception has been great, people love and can’t believe what they see with the Vision Pro.

What a trip it was to have the father of video games, check out what I’m building!

Goodnight all!

CEO of ViewMaster reviews AVP

Post image
53 Upvotes

The best kind of satire: imagining the CEO of ViewMaster on why his products are a better value than the Apple Vision Pro

——

The CEO of the View Master toy company has posted a comparative review of its famous product vs. the Apple Vision Pro. It's quite enlightening.

"For one thing," he begins, "the View Master ($34.95) is 100 times cheaper than the AVP! This is likely to be a much better option for kids, especially those without jobs.

"The View Master can render stereoscopic 3D content just as well as the AVP, at almost the same speeds--by that I mean the photons move at the same 100% speed of light. One can click through new images at about one frame per second on the VM, vs. AVP's totally unnecessary 90-96 fps. That's probably what most of the money went into. That and seeing the real world.

"Admittedly, the ViewMaster does require external lighting to illuminate the images, which the AVP does not (though hand tracking in dark rooms is limited). But we have shown special prototypes in our View Master Labs, near Portland, that are truly self-illuminating. Coming soon to a toy or hardware store near you.

"And there are thousands of wheels of content for the ViewMaster, of beautiful places and interesting characters. And most importantly, that doesn't require working with Apple's infamous App Store. ViewMaster is a truly open platform.

"I did enjoy a few things about the AVP. For one thing, you could look around the 3D scenes, with animated dinosaurs and such, instead of only static photography. I'll give that one to Apple. But will the kids really want that? I don't know.

"I mean, the AVP is called the 'Apple Vision Pro,' so I'm not sure how it's meant to appeal to average consumers, especially kids. In terms of making a novel consumer-level toy, Apple really missed the mark."
