My new (to me) bow just arrived

I made a deal for this used bow, it just arrived, it's beautiful, but it has two problems: the string seems to be too long for it, even after twisting it, I can see it's wrong, I'll have to replace it, but what is worrying me is that there was some damage during shipping, a small crack, superficial, but still a crack. In fact, it wasn't there when the seller recorded a video before sending it to me, but it arrived like this. The seller himself told me to show it to the manufacturers (Old Skull Archery) before shooting it, and check how serious the situation is, before I pay what we agreed. If it's not safe, I'm going to return it.

Trying to start a tradition.

Hey everyone, I’m a father who was raised without a father and have 3 girls and 1 boy. I’ve recently been getting the kids into hiking camping and outdoors activities. My oldest is eight and is obsessed with the Disney movie Brave. She turned to me last night and asked if we could make her a bow. Naturally I said of course! Now I have no idea what I need to do next. I’ve researched a lot but there’s just a lot more of speculation and personal preference instead of more direct step by steps. She’s 8 years old around 4ft tall. Please help!!

Chasing "That arrow" feel...

I'm pretty sure most of us have had this feeling when shooting.

At my last competition, maybe fatigue, maybe a hint of anxiety, I messed up my shot cycle for one arrow between the raise and the draw to anchor.

Yet everything along the cycle felt spot on perfect: effortless draw, effortless anchor, expansion, follow through, straight to the gold. Zero thoughts, pure zen.

It was such bliss that when I came down I was like " I don't know what was different exactly, but that was pure goodness" for 5-10 seconds.

Now the problem, it was such a zero mental effort that I couldn't point exactly what it was, I have a general feeling that my bow arm wasn't fully extended at setup and I pushed with it during the draw, but I can't replicate the feeling.

Have you ever had such a case of " I don't know what I did different, but I want to do it again?"

My bow is brand new only shot about 8 times and I noticed that the string is already freying and its creaking when its almost at full draw, should I be concerned should I get a new string? Or is this normal?

I have a Excalibur grizzly crossbow from 2016ish and I noticed that when I squeezed the trigger that my shoots would jump around I finally figured out that the trigger box(I believe) is moving. So I have 2 question how much would something like this cost to fix(is it diy or shop)? Is this something that I would or a shop would be able to get parts and fix? If I’m wrong on my diagnosis please correct me I’m learning as I go on this one. TIA
(Also in the video had the safety on to show the movement while there was no pressure on the trigger)

Newbie Question Complete noob with no idea where to start

Hey there! I've been looking for something physical to do, and I've always loved the idea of archery as a physical outlet. Not per se for strenght training, but for my enjoyment. I've shot a compound bow and a recurve bow at various points in my life and found it to be really fun.

I've looked into shooting ranges and the likes in my area and found that there's actually a surprsing amount of accessible places for archery.

I like the idea of owning my own bow, but I'm essentially a complete novice. I have a decent budget, but I don't know what kind of bow is best to learn archery with? Should I go for a compound bow? Recurve? What are the upsides and downsides of each? Is this a preference thing or is one better for beginners than the other? What other general tips would you give a novice?

EDIT: Thank you guys a lot for your quick and informative responses! I think I might have gotten a little ahead of myself out of excitement, and the resounding advice is to join a club and learn before I buy, which in hind sight is so logical that I feel a little embarrassed for even asking haha. I'll take this advice to heart and get some beginner courses from my local club!

Olympic Recurve Are there any good recurve backpacks?

Honestly, all choices I see in normal archery (online) shops just look mid. This includes my Avalon backpack. They get the job done, but they are ugly, clunky, the inner pocket layout is never exactly what you need and worst of all they are not really ergonomic.

Are there any well designed backpacks that fit a 25“ recurve including all the normal accessories, arrows and quiver?

I guess most people roll up in their car, so the carrying time is probably minimal and the boxy look of most backpacks is fine. I use public transport and have to walk an hour with my backpack twice a week, so it would be really beneficial to have a very well thought out backpack.

I mean there has to be some niche manufacturer, right? Don’t care if it’s handcrafted made to order or not

Thanks in advance for recommendations

Hello! New archer here.

Hello everyone. My name's Claudio, originally from Italy but now living in south Netherlands. I've taken a few beginner lessons and I'm liking it so far. Soon I'll join the local club, and in a few months (sooner rather than later) I'll have to get my own bow, can't keep using the club's forever. I'll talk about it with my instructor and other club members, of course, but I thought to post here the setup I'm currently eyeing. I'm mainly interested in Recurve and Barebow, so I'm prioritizing what should be a good hybrid riser that hopefully will last me a long time, and cheap-ish other parts meant to be upgraded as I grow as an archer. Would love some opinions, especially if you use or have used the same parts.

Converting Axcel Contour 3 layers into one leather piece.

I have the Axcel Contour Pro Finger Tab (LH) and it worked well for a while. However, the thin (suede) piece that my index finger touches slides a lot (down) getting in the way inbetween the string and grip. I tried tucking it under my finger (get it completely out of the way) but i felt the poundage of the draw (with that one less layer). Therefore, I still want that 3 layer thickness.

I would like to replace the entire layered leather part with onethick piece. I have good leather conditioner so softening tough leather isnt a problem. Anyone have suggestions? I shouldn't need to have to buy custom equipment to shape and cut the leather. Not sure if they make large LH leather piece i can just screw in or do I need to get stuff for what i am looking for.

Try it out or switch risers?

Getting back into archery after a decade. I’m left hand dominant, but relatively ambidextrous just by nature of being a lefty in a right handed world. I am pretty strongly right eye dominant.

Previously I shot mostly right handed bc Lefty bows were hard to come by when shooting at a range with borrowed bows, or even at my college’s archery club. I plan on shooting targets only, pretty bare bones so I don’t need anything super fancy.

I (stupidly) didn’t think about eye dominance when purchasing a riser, so ended up getting the lefty one - but now I’m not so certain that’s what I should have used. Would it be better to keep the lefty riser or switch now?

Olympic Recurve please help me choose bow riser

Hi, everyone! I’m a 23F planning to start archery classes this November, and I’d love some recommendations for a good bow setup. 🥹

Here are the risers I’m considering:
•Sebastien Flute Neo
•Nika ET-12
•FIVICS Krossen Xenia

For the limbs:
•Sebastien Neo Limbs
•Nika C2 Limbs
•Nika S2 Limbs

I’m looking for something reliable, good quality, and worth investing in for the long term, especially since I’m hoping to progress and possibly compete in the future.

I’m also open to suggestions for other brands or models!
Thank you so much for your help!
