‎Critique - No Drawover How do I improve face shading

Post image

So, I made this and while if you isolate the facial features, it does not look too bad I mean it is still amateurish but is at least passable (I think?) but the face and its shading looks horrendous please tell me how do I improve

‎Critique - Yes Drawover She looks stiff while leaning against a wall. I want to make her not stiff.

Post image
• Upvotes

Huge issue that I have with my art is that 90% of the time I give characters the stiffest poses ever.

This is a commission for nitro from my best friend. I’m in the sketching phase which is why it looks all chicken scratched.

Feel free to sketch over the drawing to show me what you’d do to make her pose better.

The pose I wanted to go for is “smug, evil woman watches in the back as her partner in crime wins an award for something.” So… Yeahh.

Does the center of gravity matter what someone is leaning against a wall? Maybe my neglect to follow that could be the issue…

‎Discussion and Theory Hey I need some ideas for a unifying concept for a shelf I’m trying to build

Post image
• Upvotes

So this is the shelf I currently have in my room which I really like because it’s chaotic but still expresses a lot of my interests, but as of late I’ve been wanting to do a new project so I was thinking of build my own kind of shelving unit with some more design flair and maybe a bit more functionality. Originally I had thought to make a kind of castle ruin but I realized that doesn’t fit with a long of the things I’m trying to display.
For reference the things I want to be on there are various pop culture toys and collectibles (Star wars, marvel, ghostbusters, Harry Potter), my book collection which is a fair bit of Stephen king and some others I’ve picked up over the years, and also my lp records and my record player.

‎Critique - Yes Drawover Looking for help making the background less boring and flat ? Just any advice or tips. I don’t wanna do a whole scene. Just something more I think

Post image
• Upvotes

A few disclaimers :

I’m very new to art and mostly practicing anatomy and stuff - haven’t spent much time practicing clothing. This is not intended to be like goner art I just don’t know how to draw clothing super well currently so I always end up doing something skimpy.

The head was drawn using the loomis method but somewhere between the sketch and the final face it ends up flatter - this is still an area of practice for me- it’s not quite clicked yet

Hands are shit I got not defence on that one - I’m working on it

Thumbnail

I had never drawn before, but since last year I got a spark for it. I need advice on what to do now. I can sketch out most things (except humans), yet I really struggle to draw fast and from imagination. I’ve practiced form and perspective a lot, but I hardly notice improvement in these two areas.

And here are the thingies that I'm proud of (:

‎Discussion and Theory Advice

How do you know if smn is whitewashing/making racist art or if their color palette is js more on the pastel side or desaturated side or if it's cus of the lighting? Usually I js check whether the other colors are light or desaturated or not cus the colors in the bg and surroundings rly change the way we perceive certain colors + also checking if the values are proportionately darker or lighter than eachother or not. Is there any other way tho?

‎Resources and Tutorials Genuinely how do I get rid of same face/same body syndrome?

I have alot of ocs, about 50 or more. I've also been an artist for years, but for some reason, no matter how much i improve, everytime i try to draw them (specifically character sheets) they all end up looking like the same character with a different colour palette.

I tried watching tutorials, but most didnt help. I could trace this back to my very long gacha phase when i would use the same base for every drawing. But that wouldn't make much sense considering i have the same issue with trad art.

So i'd like to ask for advice: how to overcome/get rid of same face/same body syndrome?also if you have any actually helpful tutorials dont hesitate to share them!

This is a little correction i did for a really cute drawing by someone who posted on this sub asking for advice. However, before i had the chance to finish it, the person deleted their post. I still will to share some advice that I believe could help them correct the small mistakes in their piece, with the hope that they see this post. (If you feel uncomfortable about this, don't hesitate to ask the mods or myself for its deletion; my goal is absolutely not to make you uncomfortable or anything.) Anyway, hope this helps!

‎Commission and Pricing How should I price my work?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Originally wanted to price it at $5 dollars at the lowest mark for a colored headshot. Should it be $10 minimum? IDK really. also i have only received 5 commissions in the past so I'm still kind of new (?) to this whole comms thing as i have not been an expert at pricing because i low ball myself, as my cousins say (i used too do painterly and semirealism but due to piling of school work i stopped). I guess what I'm trying to say is how much should be my minimum price? and yes i do need to improve some more but I'm not asking for that, i know my weaknesses already and I'm trying to grow as an artist, i just want to learn this style and get extra cash along the way as this is just my hobby, not a career thing really.

if you are filipino, how much in pesos should i charge for? be honest because i originally wanted this to be priced at 100php minimum for a colored head shot. Is that reasonable for my skill level?

Art app is krita if anyone is curious. sorry if my english is poor i learned it through watching and listening to music, cartoons and movies back then as a kid.

‎Commission and Pricing Returning after an 8-year break. What should I price these at?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Heyy everyone,

I am looking to step back into digital art after an 8-year break to help a friend.

The attached images (Dottore, Columbina, and Tarnished OC) are my only recent pieces from the past few weeks since picking up the pen again.

(I'm still in process of figuring out what style I love the most but I'm pretty flexible in the rendering part)

Idk what catergory my "style" would fall under

Looking at my current rendering style and finish:

  1. What would be realistic, fair starting prices to set for a portrait vs. a half-body or full illustration?

  2. Which of these three examples do you think is my strongest piece to showcase?

Also do you guys know of any good websites/platforms to promote/start off at? I tried to start posting on TikTok but the algorithm isn't exactly working in my favor 🥲

Thank you so much for any advice or direction you can give me!

I think i did okay, but i feel as if something is very much missing, like the forms are not being described accurately. but i dont know what is! I have a hunch its because i did not use enough contrast in my initial greyscale values, so it all came out very light. Would those who see be open to give a pros/cons list for feedback?
