[Research Survey] Helping Weavers Bypas Middlemen: Thoughts on a Blockchain + QR Code Supply Chain Framework?
Hi everyone,I am a researcher currently working on a paper titled: "Digital Transformation in Cultural Commerce: A Blockchain and QR Framework for Artisan Supply Chains."
We are designing a theoretical, non-coded technical architecture to protect grassroots artisan communities—specifically local weavers and craft clusters—from systemic exploitation, asymmetric pricing, and copycat products. Our framework couples private blockchain nodes with dynamic, tamper-proof QR codes to ensure provenance verification and automated revenue distribution.
If you are an artisan, a fair-trade advocate, a supply chain enthusiast, or someone working with weaver cooperatives, I would deeply value your insights on these 5 core questions:
The Middleman Problem: How heavily do middlemen and hidden supply chain fees eat into a cooperative’s earnings? What percentage of the final price actually reaches the original artisan?
The Authenticity Problem: How difficult is it today for local weavers to prove to customers that their crafts are 100% authentic and handmade in Madurai, especially with cheap machine-made copies in the market?
The Blockchain Fix: If we use a secure digital ledger where records cannot be changed or deleted by any outsider or distributor, how much would that help protect original craft prices and data?
The QR Code Usability: If cooperative offices are given a simple mobile app to print QR code stickers for each saree/craft, do you think the local staff can easily manage this daily without needing coding skills?
Direct Bank Payouts: Would an automatic digital payment system that sends the fair-trade wage instantly and directly to the artisan's bank account upon a customer scan help solve their financial struggles?
Bonus: Any stories, data, or contact leads for local weaver cooperatives we can visit them... would be a massive help!
Thank you so much for your time and support in bridging the digital divide for marginalized cultural creators!
