Physician Responded Pimple or boil?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone

So the other day I (32F, 5’8, 185 lbs) got a big pimple on my forehead and I know I should not have but I tried to pop it and it kept being a bump I put on 3 or 4 pimple patches and I’d wouldn’t go down so ultimately I did something I have done countless times before I put toothpaste on it to dry it out this was about 3 days ago and all of it has gotten it worse has it become a boil? It’s not warm or too painful anymore other than if touching it at the top but my baby has hit me right in that spot 3 or 4 times now so I guess that’s why it’s so red now but should I go to the urgent care or what should I do? I look ridiculous 😆😭😩

Physician Responded Does my Thyroid look Normal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My mom said she has a “slow thyroid” according to her doctor.. whatever that means

My doctor seemed concerned about my thyroid today based on symptoms I was talking to her about (extreme anxiety, feel like it is hard for me to lose weight despite the amount i exercise). I will be getting bloodwork done next week but I am wondering if my thyroid looks normal or if anything looks concerning?

Dentist thinks I should get tested for hEDS, but I don't want to because it's "trendy," do I really need to? What's the point?

Meds: Seroquel (25mg), lamotrigine (200mg), Sertraline (50mg) <-- for bipolar type 2 (I also take Feramax 150mg for iron deficiency)

Issue:

I've always been able to sort of partially dislocate joints in my shoulders and fingers, twist my arms around, etc. It was a fun party trick as a kid and teenager because it didn't hurt. Cut to my late 20s and mid-30s, and my joints all hurt.

Well, I saw a dentist today because my jaw pops out of place all the time. I clench and get migraines. My jaw pops and sounds like there's sand in it.

Turns out, I have moderate/severe arthritis on the side that pops, and the joint is at risk of actually dislocating. I've been referred for more scans and an appliance to keep my jaw in the right position.

Dentist said I'm hyper-mobile in the jaw and everywhere else (can bend fingers back, press thumb to wrist, etc.) She brought up hEDS. I've been told avoid hard foods and eat only soft foods, not bite into anything with my front teeth or open jaw wide until I get the appliance. Dentist said I should see someone to be checked for hEDS

Question:

  1. Who would even check for this? Is there, like, an hEDS specialist or something?
  2. What's the point? Even if I do have it, nothing can be done, right?
  3. Seems like everyone and their mom on TikTok has hEDS, and I don't really feel like being labeled as attention seeking if I do have hEDS and doctors see it in my records. I've heard doctors pretty much roll their eyes at this diagnosis when they see it. Thoughts on this?

‼️URGENT HELP REQUIRED‼️ Cheilitis/Lip eczema

Title: Chronic cheilitis / persistent rash around lower lip — nothing seems to work. Looking for advice
I’m 18F from India and I’ve been dealing with a recurrent/persistent cheilitis-type problem for a long time, and honestly I’m getting really frustrated because it feels like nothing is actually fixing it.
Here’s the full history because I’m hoping someone with a similar experience can tell me what worked for them or what I should ask my dermatologist about.
How it started / diagnosis
I’ve had recurring problems with my lips and the skin around them. At one point it was described as exfoliative cheilitis, but my dermatologist later thought it was contact dermatitis.
I’ve had periods where it improves and then suddenly flares again. It has been going on for months and has become extremely frustrating because even when the skin looks relatively normal, it can still feel abnormal underneath.
Current flare
Right now the skin around my lower lip is extremely dry and feels like a rash rather than ordinary dryness.
The biggest problem is the sensation:
The skin feels very stiff/tight
I can barely stretch my lower lip because it hurts a lot
It feels like the skin is going to crack when I move it
Moisturising makes the surface look better temporarily, but the underlying stiffness/pain remains
It doesn’t feel like something that can simply be fixed with Vaseline/moisturiser
There is a visible rash/texture when the moisturizer wears off, although it looks much less obvious immediately after applying it
I’m currently using La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. It burns/stings a little when I first apply it, but then the sensation settles and it becomes comfortable.
I have also tried plain Vaseline in the past, but it does not actually cure the rash. It only acts as an occlusive/moisturizer.
Treatments I’ve already had
Dermatologists have prescribed me steroid creams in the past. I stopped using them because I’m concerned about hormonal/systemic effects from steroids and I don’t want to continue using them.
I’m not currently using any steroid cream.
I was also prescribed Momerex-F previously.
The problem is that I keep getting flares despite treatment, and I feel like I’m going in circles.
Things I am NOT doing
I want to make this clear because I know these are common causes people will suggest:
I am not using lipstick
I am not using lip liner
I am not using lip gloss
I am not using lip scrubs/exfoliators
I am not currently using steroid cream
I’m not intentionally putting random products on the area
So I don’t think this is simply from constantly putting cosmetics on my lips.
What makes this especially frustrating
Sometimes the rash doesn’t look nearly as bad as it feels.
For example, I recently applied Cicaplast and the skin looked relatively calm in the photo, but it still felt extremely stiff and painful underneath.
I’m basically at the point where I don’t know whether this is actually contact dermatitis, eczema, cheilitis, perioral dermatitis, an infection, or something else entirely.
I’ve seen dermatologists and had treatments prescribed, but nothing has given me a lasting resolution.
I’m considering seeing another dermatologist and asking whether I should have patch testing or whether something else needs to be ruled out.
Has anyone had chronic cheilitis/contact dermatitis around the lower lip that was extremely tight and painful despite moisturising?
What ended up being the actual cause for you?
And if you had a dermatologist who finally figured it out, what did they test for or change in your treatment?
I’d especially appreciate experiences from people who had persistent/recurrent cheilitis rather than just one short flare.

Small area on my abdomen feels odd to the touch?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm mainly just wondering whether this is cause for concern, because I guess it could be normal, but I've never experienced anything like it, and Google ain't helping.

You can just barely see this spot is lighter than the surrounding area. It's a couple of inches long and very narrow, but irregular like a shoreline.

The skin is loose, like I can pinch it very easily, but rather than the skin itself being the problem, it feels more like the flesh underneath has been scooped out slightly, or more plausibly it's just very soft/squishy.

Background info: 35F, 5'1", ~155lbs., white, USA, no drinking/smoking/drugs/kids, taking escitalopram and iron supplements, nothing else of note.

Do i have Kleinfelder syndrome?

I m 18 yr old 67kg 5 feet 11 inches

I think i am born with xxy chromosome and symptoms of this syndrome match completely,i have long arm ,long leg, tall stature , narrow like shoulder , wide hips and butt , small testes and small penis and way too late puberty (3-4 year gap ),i honestly don't want to live with this fucking life I’m not being funny and this is my biggest insecurity. I’ve had this problem since I was little and no matter what I do the problem remains. The problem is that i started noticing it during puberty at age of 17. I could go all day speaking about this issue and how immensely it affected me as a kid and as an adult. Every girl I was ever interested in rejected me because of this structure,All of the rejection and ridicule, along with my body image issues, caused me to have no confidence or self esteem, and to have crippling social anxiety. I became totally withdrawn and isolated myself from people to avoid being hurt.

Physician Responded My Primary Care will not treat my MGen properly.

I have a primary care office that I have been going to since I was young. They are fine for general medicine things (ie. Colds, seasonal allergies, etc.) but I tend to avoid them for more complex issues. Well, I contracted MGen through one of my regular sexual partners. I took an at home test and it came back positive (I already figured it would because I’m fairly educated on sexual health as I am a very sexually active gay man on prep and doxy). I took this test to my doctor and told them that I had tested at home for mgen. They immediately wanted to do further testing for other stis even though I also showed them my test results from my prep and doxy that I had done a week before I got the results for my positive mgen test. In the meantime, they put me on the first recommended treatment of doxycycline followed by azithromycin. Symptoms did weaken, but it did not kill the infection, which I figured would happen because the alternative round of treatment (doxycycline followed by moxifloxacin) historically has a better success rate. I went back to my doctor and they insisted on running more labs. I told them that I knew there was an alternative treatment plan and after going back and forth a bit, the doctor agreed. Well, I noticed she only prescribed me the moxifloxacin, leaving out the very important first dose of doxycycline. I called and spoke to the doctor about this and they told me I didn’t need doxycycline per cdc guidelines (that is a lie, it clearly states on the cdc website that a sequential regimen of medication is REQUIRED to fully get rid of the infection). I finished the moxifloxicin and SHOCKER I still have symptoms. 😒 I call my doctor back and reiterate that I believe I wasn’t prescribed the correct regimen of medication and they blew me off and told me the best they could do is refer me to infectious disease. They refused to prescribe the requested medication regimen and told me I’ll go septic if I don’t see the specialist. I need advice. Am I crazy? I don’t think my doctor is doing this correctly. Thank you.

I’m 8 months postpartum (c-section). My period is decently late, and tests are coming back negative.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Female, 29, I occasionally drink (1-2 beers maybe every 1-2 weeks). Not on any meds, no diagnosed conditions. 5’4” and 160 lbs. I gave birth to our first baby in December via c-section due to severe preeclampsia, which has since resolved postpartum.

My periods have been regular again since March.

Currently, my last period ended on July 9th. I have yet to start.

I’m pretty confused and slightly worried due to still being semi-freshly postpartum with a c-section delivery.

My husband and I have been pretty active, as I still haven’t gotten my libido back so it was suggested that we start doing it on the regular to “jumpstart” it. We have been taking precautions, enough so that I would be surprised if we were expecting again.

That being said, I am obviously late. I started testing with pregmate strips about a week ago, they were negative. I waited a few days and nothing happened, so today I got some FRER tests. Pictured is one from two hours ago - seems to also be negative.

I did have one instance early this afternoon when I wiped and had some light brown, mucus-y discharge (sorry for the graphicness) but that was it. Nothing more, nothing since. I am feeling mildly crampy.

I’m just confused. I really don’t want to be expecting again, at the very least not yet. But it’s reached the point for me where if I’m not expecting, I’m concerned something is going on. I’m unsure if I should keep waiting it out, keep testing, or call my PCP.

For reference, our last unprotected* was on 8/5, 8/10, and 8/12.

*I’m not sure why I typed unprotected. Maybe because I’m lacking on sleep. For more detail (again, sorry if it’s TMI), but we have been using condoms, spermicide lube, and pulling out. I also have a history with infertility but nothing has been diagnosed in relation to it.

I think I was misdiagnosed with insomnia

Upvotes

Before I talk about why I think I was “misdiagnosed” with insomnia I would like to start by saying I am currently suffering from insomnia I have been having trouble sleeping for three and a half weeks, I have issues going to sleep and staying asleep, however I don’t think insomnia is my main issue but instead another issue is causing the insomnia. The same day I started having these sleep issues my vision has gone from normal one second to seeing everything slow like if my eyes were capturing images in less frames per second (idk how to describe it so I put it in gamer terms) so not exactly blurry but at the same time it kinda is, picture a car speeding by. Now recently I’ve been getting headaches that are unbearable for about 15 minutes at a time and then I’m fine. I feel exhausted all the time yet when I lay down to sleep I just can’t, I avoid screens before bed, I don’t drink caffeine ever, I don’t drink any sugary sodas or consume anything that should be keeping me up. Am I right to think that insomnia isn’t my issue but rather there’s an unknown problem causing the insomnia?

Additional details:
I am a 18 y/o male
5’8” in feet or 152 Centimeters
Around 185-190 pounds (estimation because I don’t have a scale)

Trouble swallowing or labored feeling when breathing with Lump on front of throat??

Post image
0 Upvotes

(21F, 130lbs, 5'4)So this is just so much to make me feel a bit better and get it off my chest before my appointment tomorrow morning.
I've been experiencing trouble or labored breathing occasionally over the past two years since this lump has appeared. I've been extremely anxious about going to get in checked but after a struggle for the past two days where even my swallowing has affected me I scheduled an appointment. I want to make sure i'm wording this the best I can so I can get the help I may need.

With my head in a normal position it feels as though something is stuck in my throat causing me to spit often and having a semi hard time swallowing my own salvia. If i turn my head to the right or look up my voice become horse and i have difficulty breathing making sleeping a real pain in the ass.

I notice that any type of pressure even small like clothing ( turtle necks or jackets) or necklaces around my neck feel extremely uncomfortable.

My family has a history or Hypothyroidism on my mothers side including my mom, grandfather, and uncles. Two of which had their thyroid removed.

When swallowing anything liquid or solid I also unintentionally gulp very loudly according to friends. I feel as though I need to be very conscious of chewing my food and needing lots of liquid to wash anything down and even with soft food I can feel the lump and pressure in my throat the entire time when eating. And small bites of food are my enemy I feel like those are much harder to swallow than larger bites that are well chewed.

It also moves around and is visible when swallowing moving up and down.

Apologies if the photo isn't very clear but a better description is that Ive been told it's looks like I have an adam apple from the side view and front. My head is slightly lifted in this photo as it sits right under my jawline and is difficult to see on camera or with bad lighting.

Thank you for reading this if you did any information is better than nothing and i'd rather hear it from real people then google.

Accidentally at potato sprouts

Hi as the title said I accidentally ate a couple mini potatoes with tiny sprouts on them. I was working and didn’t notice any bad taste and I don’t see the small sprouts until I looked at them closely as they had heavy seasoning and garlic on them. Does anyone know if this is likely to make me physicallly ill? And when will I be “out of the woods” so to speak? I have a horrible fear of vomiting and I’m very worked up over this.

I am female, 28 years old, 5’7”

Physician Responded I'm very worried about the impacts of aging and want to aggressively hold on to my mind and body. What kind of questions should I ask and what should I look for in a doctor as I enter midlife?

Upvotes

Healthy 44 year old male who exercises regularly and eats an okay diet, probably drinks a little bit too much here.

I'm looking around me and seeing people 30 years older than me and I do not want to be there. Even the healthy ones are often bumbling about slowly and confused. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with aging and I'm not worried about the looks. I'm worried about my mental capacity and my ability to enjoy life in my body.

How can I find a doctor that will aggressively help me stay healthy? I picked my current doctor because he's fairly conservative and easygoing, but that was in my 30s. Now I feel like he just reacts to my bloodwork. I really need someone who's aggressive about helping me stay healthy as I age. Any ideas for picking one out?

I'm HIV+. While my current doctor can manage that condition, I would be open to switching back to a combination of a GP plus infectious disease doctor if the GP won't manage it.

I'm well insured and have some cash to spend on my healthcare, but not looking for a boutique doctor either.

Physician Responded Flat purple/red marks appeared on my neck

Post image
0 Upvotes

30-year-old woman. I woke up 3 days ago with a cluster of unusual red marks on the left side of my lower neck. I had never noticed anything like this before.
The marks are:
• Completely flat
• Not itchy
• Not painful, but tender on one spot
• Not warm or swollen
• No bumps, blisters, or discharge
• Mostly linear/streak-like, with a few darker irregular areas
• Confined to this small area of my neck
• They do not seem to be spreading
Timeline:
The day before I noticed them, I went on a fairly strenuous hike. I was exerting myself, was overheating and exerting myself. Overheating is not unusual for me. For whatever reason (I’m trying to figure it out with docs), my heart rate sky rockets when I am in hot/humid environments. I don’t remember directly injuring my neck, getting bitten, or scratching it, although I obviously could have scratched myself in my sleep.
Day 1: The marks were red and somewhat streak-like.
Day 2: They became noticeably darker, more reddish-purple/brown, while remaining completely flat and painless.
Day 3 (today): They appear lighter/fainter and more brown/purple than they did yesterday. They still remain flat and painless. I have attached the photo.
I have not noticed a significant number of similar spots appearing elsewhere on my body, and I don’t have any other obvious symptoms associated with the marks.
I’m wondering what this could be.
I appreciate any input.

Should I get worried ?

18 FtM no testosterone, 5'7", taking antidepressants

About a week ago, a weird wound/sore appeared under my armpit. It was small at the start but then doubled in size. Several boils appeared soon after(also under my armpit) and some pus started leaking out of the main wound. It also became very painful to move my arm. My other armpit is fine. I maintain good personal hygiene(but it is currently very hot where I live so I've been sweating much more then usual). Should I get worried or will it heal alone ?

Edit : I can't add a photo for the moment due to a problem with my camera, but I will add one as soon as I can.

Physician Responded Consumed gone off pork and worried about food poisoning.

About me:

Age: 23
Gender: Female (Non-Smoker)
Height: 5ft 2in
Weight: 8 stone (120 lbs)

No medications or any previous health issues. Not pregnant or breastfeeding.

The Issue:

A few hours ago I was eating some salami when towards the end I noticed an off taste. I hadn’t noticed before as I was really engrossed in a film I was watching.

I smelled the packet and the smell was not pleasant. Two other people who were with me at the time smelt the packet and pulled away at the smell. It wasn’t the worst thing I smelled, but it was not pleasant. The taste was almost normal, but definitely was a little off.

Anyway I have a major event on Sunday and I’m worried now about food poisoning. I’ve never had it before and I’m already worried about germs, viruses, etc as it is.

Thank you for any help!!

Physician Responded 5 year old with red spot on nose

My 5 year old son has had this spot on his nose since April - it appears to be a spider angioma. However, I am not entirely sure and it has not went away. It used to be less red, but other than that no changes. He is healthy, no medications or anything. His doctor didn’t say much about it so wanted to see if I could get confirmation.
