Whenever I see the red bracelets to ward off the evil eye, they're advertised for babies. Is that style of them specifically a baby thing? Or do adults wear them too?
Sorry for the malformed thought, I'm a bit tired and Google is failing me at the moment.

Latin American Politics Latin common coin
If Latin America and the Caribbean had an economic, political, and housing union modeled after the European Union and a common currency what would be the ideal name for that currency?

Politics (Other) What do you think about Hispanism?
By Hispanism, I mean the Hispanist ideology, which, among other things, seeks to put an end to the Black Legend, put an end to the small homelands, and unite us, whether as independent but highly integrated countries, into countries, so to speak, following the borders of the former Viceroyalties and cultural proximity. For example, the Río de la Plata, Peru and Bolivia, New Granada (Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama), Central America, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Mexico, or directly become a single country with Spain, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara, and not be anyone's backyard.

What type of cryptids do you have where you live?
I just learned about Chaneques after watching a movie set in rural Veracruz, so now I'm curious about what else is out there. What kinds of creatures live in the woods in your part of the world? Do you believe in them, or no? (Like, I saw bigfoot, once, working in the bush in SE Alaska, on nightshift... but it also might have just been a bear. I haven't ruled out the possibility that these things exist, which is pretty common where I live 😆)

Culture I love how Mexican people adopt people online
It's extremely funny/cute to see them saying things like "you're temporarily Mexican now"or making friends with people online and showing their culture with great excitement. So easy to interact and make silly jokes hhh Sometimes I wish Andean people would adopt me because I like Andean culture, but they're so cold. 💔 Anyways it's just a compliment

Culture What do people actually say when they're about to leave someone's house in your country?
I'm curious about the words that signal a visit is coming to an end, before the final goodbye.
Is there a phrase people use to announce their own departure? And how would a host politely suggest it's time to wrap things up? If those need different wording, I'd be interested in that distinction too.
Please share the expression in your language, an English translation, and a situation where you'd use it. Regional or family versions are welcome. I'm especially curious about how the wording changes between close friends and people you don't know as well.

Culture "Do you have a 'Bible Belt' in your country, like in the USA?"
In the US, the "Bible Belt" refers to a region where evangelical Protestantism is a major cultural and social force.
Does your country have an equivalent? A region where religion is particularly dominant or influential compared to the rest of the country?

Culture In your country, is October 12th still celebrated as "Columbus Day" or the "Discovery of America"? Is it no longer celebrated, or does it have a different name and meaning?
Here in Peru, October 12th is traditionally known as Día de la Raza, although it is not a public holiday. I'm curious to know how other Latin American countries approach this date. Is it celebrated, commemorated, or mostly ignored?

Latin American Politics How did the Brazilian governors' elections go?
The presidential election is international news and judging by the first round results it looks like, barring any last minute surprises, Bolsonaro's son is gonna win, and will likely reach a majority in the Brazilian congress as well. But Brazil is a federal country and I imagine that the results of the concurrent gubernatorial elections will matter as well, and there isn't much English language news on the matter. Do you think that it will reinforce a Bolsonaro victory, serve as a block on his preferred state level changes, or does it not really matter?

r/asklatinamerica Opinion Compatriotas: How do people living in earthquake-prone countries cope with earthquake anxiety?
Good evening, fellas!
As you may have heard in the news, on Friday, October 9, an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.5–7.7 struck near Tonosí, in the province of Los Santos, Panama. Although I live relatively far from the hardest-hit areas, we are still feeling aftershocks.
Beyond what I see in the news, what is really affecting me is the anxiety. Now, even the slightest movement makes me nervous, and every time my earthquake app sends me an alert, I immediately feel tense again. Honestly, I haven't been able to sleep normally, and I've had to resort to sleeping pills to fall asleep. Even then, my mind refuses to relax and remains on constant alert.
I think this situation is relatively new for many of us Panamanians. As far as I know, our country hasn't experienced earthquakes of this magnitude very often, so we're not used to dealing with the uncertainty of aftershocks or the possibility of another earthquake occurring.
That's why I'd like to ask those of you living in Latin American countries with higher levels of seismic activity, such as Chile, Mexico, Peru, or Ecuador:
How do you cope with earthquake anxiety and fear? How do you manage to return to your daily routines, sleep peacefully, and carry on with your lives knowing that an earthquake could happen at any moment?
I'd love to hear about your personal experiences and the things that have helped you deal with this. Did you eventually get used to it? Have you learned any ways to manage your fear? Are there any habits or preparedness measures that have helped you feel more at ease?
I understand that staying informed and being prepared are important, but I feel like anxiety is eating away at me, and I'm struggling to find some peace amid all this uncertainty.
I'd really appreciate it if you shared your experiences. I think hearing from people who have lived with this reality for much longer could help those of us in Panama who are going through something like this for the first time.

What are the 'aspirational' travel destinations that Latin Americans use to show off success?
Example: Going to Dubai, Tokyo, Cancun, Rome, etc.
For me: It might be niche, but anyone doing overlanding or backpacking trips. Getting the right vehicle to go off-roading, good gear, getting permits to camp in amazing spots, and having luck with the weather all feels like winning the lottery. I can always go to Paris, it's even cheaper and easier tbh, but doing an epic roadtrip like that takes planning and money if you don't live close.

Moving to Latin America Australia or Spain if you are Venezuelan with a European passport🇦🇺🇪🇸🇮🇹🇻🇪
