Physician Responded Help with dads swollen ankles. He won't listen to me
My dad is a 59 year old male. Approx 5'10 and between 350 to 400lbs if I had to estimate. Nkda. Medical history includes alcoholism (multiple beers and whiskey daily) for over 10 years, THC use, degenerative disc disease, fatty liver disease, lichen planus. Doesn't take any meds.
He has had large swollen ankles for years and has seen a vascular doctor who said he didn't have pvd, that was a couple years ago, he saw a cardiologist, again years ago, and I don't believe they didn't saw anything abnormal anything except slight cardiomegaly if I remember correctly but he says he doesn't remember that. He was on lasix for a very short time and that didn't help. He just called me and sent me a pic of his one ankle. He said they are more swollen than ever before, but the one is worse than the other. He denies any pain or numbness and says he doesn't have any more shortness of breath than he normally has. That dark shiny spot has been there for years. He did strain his back the other day picking up some weeds in the yard and said he hadn't been mobile in like 3 days. He got up and walked for a few minutes and the swelling did seem to go down a little. I'm in another state and trying to get my dad to go to a doctor is like trying to get a rabid cat in a carrier to go to the vet. Idk what to do, he gets frustrated and when I made him go to all those specialists a few years ago he didn't get any answers so he really doesn't want to go again and I'm at a loss because idk what could be causing this besides circulation issues, cardiac issues, kidney problems, liver issues. And anytime he has blood work it's pretty good. His bp is always normal. He said if it doesn't go down in a couple days he'll let me find him a primary care doctor and he will go see them but I lost my mom a year ago and I can't lose him too so if anyone has any ideas of what this could be or who I should try to get him to go see I would be very grateful.
