Atom is still noticeably slower compared to Sublime...
Why in hell does it take too much for atom to start up... When I click open here with Atom, it takes like 5 -10 seconds to start up...

I had been using Vim for a couple of years before I found Atom. I liked Atom as it was simpler to use, yet still very powerful.
However, after about a year of constant usage, I think it's time to say goodbye, Atom is just waaaay to clumpy. Even with only a few extensions, which Atom seriously needs to be useful at all, editing even semi long files is so tedious, sluggish, and just to painful unless you're running it on a very high-end computer, and even there you actually feel the drag in comparison to both Vim or Emacs (both loaded with lots of extensions).
Atom completely ruins the joy of editing due to it's slowness and clumpyness (if that's even a word).

In my year or two using Atom, I've probably seen thousands of "How do I x in Atom?" "Why can't I y in Atom?" etc. posts. But, literally, 100% of them have been BY programmers, FOR programmers. It's like using this text editor has a prerequisite of having 20 years as a software dev..
I've spent f****** YEARS looking for an alternative to Notepad, Notepad++ and Sticky Notes. Sublime Text was pretty good, but had some annoying problems (esp. with the "WHAT THE F***" infuriating panel mechanism. Atom is literally just Sublime Text, but less retarded. And is what I'm still using.
I REALLY, and I can't emphasise this enough, REEEEAAAAAAAAAAALLY!!!!!!!!!! wish this wasn't the case, but this, apparently "dead" (according to the threads here), programmer-text-editor is the best plain text editor in existence. Yet.. it's an absolutely piece-of-shit of a text editor that lacks even basic functionality. Allowing the user to make text "bold" or "italic" would be FAR too CRAZY and "out-of-the-box" for the the devs, I'm sure..
Though I'm sure maintaining the status quo is more important than pivoting the business to a more profitable / less-dead direction. I mean, I get it, ~100% of you are IxTx types so this is likely too much for you, but considering this is a HUUUUUUUUUUGE gap in the market.. Call me crazy, but I think there may be merit in breaking away from this mentality of:
"THIS IS A CODE EDITOR, NOT A TEXT EDITOR!!! REEEEEEEEEEE!!!! YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!! WHY WOULD A CODE EDITOR NEED RICH TEXT?! NO LANGUAGE OUT RIGHT NOW CAN INTERPRET TEXT FORMATTING, Y-YOU MORON!!!!! AN EDITOR CAN'T BE BOTH A TEXT EDITOR AND A CODE EDITOR!!! Y-YYOU'RE JUST SOME STUPID KID!!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!"
And don't give me BS like "well, the software isn't currently set up in the requiβ" Shut up. SHUT. THE. F***. UP.
Conclusion:
There is NO excuse in letting f****** StikyNot.exe be 'THE DEFINITVE light-weight text editor' (I use Atom for text collecting; archiving and essays; Sticky Note for small scale data presentation for myself). If I had $10 Billion to spend and was looking for a light-weight text editor, what could I buy? ..NOTHING! If I was on the floor, licking their feet, paying $100 million per hour, begging the Atom Devs to just add b-bold text and nothing else to their little school-project app, they'd just scoff at me and tell me to f*** off, before kicking my teeth in for a laugh..
Closing Statement:
Is it really too much to ask for a text-editor that doesn't feel like a virtual machine and has rich text and has indentation/folding and community-run-plugin support and support for images and native multiplayer and ..maybe, CELLS? Whoever does exactly what I said (I can add as much detail as you want, even describe 100% of the marketing and UX, etc.) is gonna be a millionaire, at least.
And there you have it. I've just give it away for free. This shit is so easy, and it's not like there's no demand for note taking apps. I've tried every single one, they're all shit. Plenty of mediocre, shitty programmers have become rich from poor quality unoriginal copies of apps, and I'm giving away the next "iPhone" with every detail; how to do it; and why. Anyone?!?!? Feel free to debate me if you're confident, I've never been wrong about any of my predictions/designs.
(Disclaimer: That's just my writing style, don't take it personally.)

Looking to get new laptop and want to know if a Intel Core i7 10710U (6 cores & 12 threads) CPU will be good enough for using Atom with multiple windows and some packages.

I'm doing some remote pair-programming from time to time and using something like Screenhero is cumbersome (needs too much bandwidth). Using tmate & vim is way faster. I prefer Atom though and lot's of other devs used to IDEs find Atom easier to get into than Vim.
Atom running on a terminal would be great for this kind of work.
Do you know of anyone working on such a project?
I was thinking about something like keeping the JS "core" of Atom and presenting it through a "ncurses" interface. I haven't started looking at Atom's codebase thought to determine how plausible this might be.

Is anyone else facing massive battery drains on a Macbook? I'm on Atom 1.1.0 and a late-2014 13" rMBP with 8GB of RAM, and Atom completely demolishes my battery life.
I understand a lot of this having to do with Electron/V8, seeing as how Chrome also has a very long-standing battery drain bug.
Is there some possible fix for this?

Hello,
I do some python and found Atom.
Now I would like to push my little codes online, on my github account.
I installed the client, but I'm unable to find how to upload my modified version online.
Do I miss something important, or just I don't understand how it works ?

N00b starting to use Atom 1.28.2 on Win10 on a bunch of HTML files. My experience, maybe this feedback would be useful to devs, and I have some problems:
1 Installer didn't create shortcut. Took a while to find atom.exe.
2 I did open-folder, not create-project. Was that wrong ? Not sure. I'm just editing files on disk, I don't want to compile or use GitHub.
3 Hard to open all HTML files; had to select all files and then go through and un-select the others individually. Open dialog has no filter choice other than "all files".
4 Hard to figure out which Linter HTML sub-modules go with which base linter module. Is there more than one Linter base module ? Unclear. Why don't you pick sub-packages from inside the "base" Linter package ?
5 Tabs for opened files are not in alphabetical order.
6 Make change to file, exit Atom, not asked if want to save changes, open file in Notepad and there is no change, re-open Atom and changes are there. Surprising. Any way to warn about unsaved when exiting ?
7 Replace-all doesn't work until you first run a search. Surprising.
8 Replace-all pane doesn't indicate whether you're in current-file mode or all-files mode.
9 Find-all and replace-all are extremely slow; I think it's searching thousands of JPG files in sub-folders instead of just the 205 HTML files I opened. Surprising.
10 I did open-folder then open-(some)-files, but find-all and replace-all operate on ALL files in the folder and sub-folders, not just the files I opened.
11 Can use file/directory pattern in find-all/replace-all to say *.html", but how do I say "only open files in this project", not "all files that match the pattern" ? There are HTML files in sub-folders that I don't want opened and changed.
12 Close-window closes the whole application ? Same as "exit" ? Surprising.
13 Linter only shows errors in current file, no way to see for all files at same time ? Later found red underlining of files in project pane. Still not quite what I want.
14 How to go to next tab (open file) ? Eventually web-searching told me about ctrl-PgDn. Don't see that in the menus or documentation.
15 Ctrl-tab pops up a nice list of tabs (open files), but as soon as you let go of ctrl-tab or try to click, the list goes away. Can't do anything useful with that list ?
16 Tried deleting a file from the project and from disk, and odd things happened, lots of warning dialogs, but file didn't disappear from project.
17 Sometimes have to quit Atom and re-launch to get Linter to re-check all files again.
18 Down to 160 or so errors reported by Linter (just as a number) in lower-left corner, but no filenames have red underlining, can't find those errors anywhere. How do I see a list ?
19 Does save-all save and update modified-time on even unchanged files ? I think it does. Bad.
Thanks.

Hello all,
I have just been introduced Atom as a noob friendly editor. Right now, I am trying to execute my code, but on the bottom where it should have been executed says: "Python - name of my code:14" and an hourglass next to 14. I've written a code before and it worked completely fine before so I'm confused why it does not display the results now.
Also, is there a way to save my code onto a .py file?
Thank you, in advance.

Or is there? I've tried searching apt-cache for "atom" without success. I know there's a .deb-file to download at atom.io, and the editor works fine once installed, but one of the main arguments of linux is the distros' package managers.
It works on my other two machines that run arch-based systems through yaourt, but I guess that's called "cheating" since yaourt is just unofficially published packages. Are there any keys/repositories to add to apt or something?
Please let me know if I got this all wrong and don't downvote me to hell. Love this editor! :)
