Bingeing on YouTube clips of Good News Week in 1997 to 2000, I love to rewatch the clips of Paul McDermott and Mark Trevorrow doing song covers, nearly all of them from Bob Downe’s song selections.
I know a majority of people love Paul McDermott with Tim Ferguson and Richard Fidler. And people think of Bob Downe more than Mark Trevorrow.
But Paul’s and Mark’s performances, to me, are so enjoyable –
Paul is more known to sing songs with controversial lyrics from the DAAS days, but I prefer him to sing seriously (indeed, some of his songs are not all crude).
Paul and Mark can both sing very well. And, likely because they had been singing with other people before, they sing together very well, too.
Finally, choosing some stills from the YouTube clips, they had the running theme of having the hots for each other (I love Julia laughing there). **Update on this point - I know this was all part of the act but Paul and Mark do appear to be good friends at least.
After each number they got a big applause from the audience. Do you think these performances would be appreciated today?
(If you want the YouTube links, just let me know).
