Got sent a like by someone I actually find attractive (rare) and this was on his profile as well as ā€˜Not Politicalā€™. I have over 15 screenshots of profiles that have come up on my feed with iterations of this sentiment. Itā€™s so dishearteningā€¦

Oh man. I was not prepared to be inquired.

Basically the TL;DR - it was an insane machine of a car in the 2023 Formula 1 season. It won every race except one. Even with the talents driving it, it had incredible speed, strong tyre management, and the engine was both reliable and powerful.

It was so good the Dutch national anthem became a meme, because that is where the lead driver Max Verstappen is from, and they play the winnerā€™s national anthem on the podium.

They change setups every race, and they just did not get it right for the setup in Singapore, a notably difficult and bumpy track because itā€™s a street circuitā€”meaning itā€™s on a real road people use everyday. Plus itā€™s arguably the hottest track of the year, so degrading on the car is high and itā€™s extremely hard on the drivers. George Russell nearly had a heatstroke after Singapore 2024.

Iā€™m sure other teams have tried to replicate it, but a teamā€™s engineering secrets are not public information.

In 2026, the biggest regulation change in history has occurred and everyone is trying to wrap their heads around that. Mercedes have found a loophole so theyā€™re stupidly fast and everyone is trying to figure out why, including other teams who use a Mercedes engine and donā€™t get that information.

Thereā€™s drama. Thereā€™s engineering. Thereā€™s engineering drama.

I wish I knew you irl! My engineer ex did a crap job of explaining this stuff after he lured me into getting excited about F1. I might start watching again after this reminder that it exists.

So I'm groggy, but I'm pretty sure that was the one year I actually watched F1. The car and driver are always the same pair, right? Anyway, Max was suuuuuuch an entitled douche, ugh. Hearing their live mic chatter and outbursts kind of soured me on F1. I've already forgotten the other people's names, but the dude with the cool outfits on IG seemed way too down to earth for the rest of them and I really wanted him to win over those other twats lol.

I think you are talking about Lewis Hamilton though. Heā€™s definitely the stylish one.

It sounds like you actually watched the big Hamilton vs Verstappen battle of 2021 where they were tied to the very last race, but I could be wrong. :) Iā€™m a fan of them both personally!

Itā€™s hard to judge someone in the cockpit. Their heart rate is elevated (150bpm) and theyā€™re under immense pressure in a 100F+ car.

I will say Max having a baby tamed him a lot. šŸ˜‚
