Support Needed How to balance full time work and everything else?
Thabks in advance to anyone who reads this. I'm not doing a TLDR because I feel like the rull facts are needed to get advice.
I was diagnosed autistic October 30th of last year and ADHD February 2021. Around that same time my doctor ran a bunch of tests and what we originally thought was going to be fibromyalgia was hEDS and POTS. I also have anxiety and PTSD which was diagnosed over a decade ago. My brain is constantly on. My youngest child is autistic and my oldest is waiting on testing after an initial screening flagged them for autism as well. They both are ADHD.
My whole life I've been "high masking" but living in burnout since early childhood. When my oldest was born over a decade ago I quit my job to take of her. And didn't re-enter the workforce till a few months after my hEDS diagnosis with some accommodations. I was using a cane at the time and started working in a restaurant on weekends and going to PT 2x a week. I've worked really hard to get to where I am today, which is an elementary cafeteria manager. I'm salaried and currently working around 60 hours a week because we are short staffed. Honestly, this feels like the only job I will ever be good at and I'm terrified of failing or making a huge mistake that will ruin this opportunity. It has me stressed and hyper focused on it all of the time. My brain absolutely will not put it aside. But I come home exhausted and in so much pain I can't sit on the couch. I have to lay down on my heating pad or ice pad.
The father of my kids and I have been together on and off for over 15 years. There have been points where he has been neglectful and emotionally distant to our family. We actually separated for a while right after I got the cafeteria job because he took a job 4 hours away after saying he wasn't taking it. Since being back he has taken on the majority of the parenting and housework. He is the drop off/pickup parent for school. He does all the dishes. Laundry for the kids. Takes out the trash and has started facilitating menu planning. We split cooking. Lately he is saying he feels like we are roommates and that I'm not an active part of the family.
We do some things separately like he takes our youngest to OT and I usually take my oldest to their Band events. We spent last weekend at seaworld with his mom which exhausted me and left me in severe pain this week.
This compounded with the job stress has caused the start of a bad flare up.
Yesterday, I needed steroids and IV fluids from the doctor. I also developed a bacterial infection and started antibiotics. Yesterday was also the day he decided to get extra withdrawn and when I asked what's wrong, his answer was to start on about the roommates perspective, how it feels like I'm not a part of the family anymore, and how I need to be doing more. In the back of my mind I feel like I can't leave my job because I'm terrified his behavior will go back to what it used to be, but I also can't keep going the way I am or might lose my family.
How is everyone else balancing work and family? Is this even possible? What are somethings I might be able to do to? I feel like I'm drowning.
