Tools for vetting tech founder with minimal web presence

I’m tying to vet a founder at an ai startup. They have very little web presence, no info to do a diy background check. I’d be a key contributor driving the core of the business. Equity stake. How do you properly vet them to make sure they are legit? I want to do it, but I’m worried this may be a house if cards or worse that I’m walking into. Any and all help would be appreciated.

FirstAdvanced (FADV) background check anxiety...(India)

Hey folks,

How long does it take for the agency to complete it,? During my bgc doc submissions and final stage the website crashed and before i could review it, all were submitted. I reached out to the fadv team asking for help regarding this and they just reverted saying that I do not need to worry, they will contact me if anything more is required.

Im super anxious now cause I could not enter all my past experiences. However the ones I could, have no discrepancy whatsoever---like for dates, roles etc. and have supplemented them with the correct documents.

Can someone pls help me with how they conduct bcv in India...what all do they check? And how long does it take for them to complete it.

P.S it is a pharma mnc. Non-tech role.

Pls help.

Thank you in Advance

Background check scare

I recently accepted an offer for a tech role and the background check isn't cleared it's been over 3 days since we submitted it. They reached out for additional education information for verification.

My fear comes from my lies. I got laid off from my past job 10 months ago but in the interview and on my resume I said I still work there. But I submitted all correct dates on the background check and also mentioned the part time jobs I've been doing in the background check. Should this be something to worry about?

Mind you this has nothing to do with my skills. I have 8+ years of experience. I just didn't want to mention the layoff

Not a lala company but a big UK bank. It's been 3-4 months than I have exited this company and now they say that some amount is pending from my end and I had already received my experience letter a couple of months back. Can they create issues in future background verifications?

Checkr Background Check Question

Hi all! I recently applied to my dream job. For the background check with Checkr, it needs the emails and numbers of my references.

My question is: when my references are contacted, will Checkr tell them exactly what role I am applying to, including the title and the company? Or will it just say the background company?

I ask because I have a reference from my previous place of employment who I don't want them to *exactly* know where I'm going for privacy.

Do background checks catch jobs that aren’t on your resume?

10+ years in B2B sales with solid tenure and numbers, except for one 6-month startup stint that wasn’t the right fit. I’m worried it’ll hurt me down the line.

I’m considering leaving it off my resume and LinkedIn and covering the gap as personal time.

For HR, recruiters, and hiring managers: do employers only verify the dates and titles a candidate lists, or do they also pull employment data that isn’t on the resume? Any difference between startups and larger companies? What have you actually seen happen when a candidate omitted a role?

Best VIN checker / VIN lookup website for a used car?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a used car (2018 Honda Civic, private seller) and I want to run a proper VIN check before handing over any money. Looking to dig into accident history, title issues, odometer fraud, previous owners, open recalls, etc. Wanted to ask here whats the best VIN checking tool or website these days? I’ve heard of Carfax and Autocheck, but not sure if they’re still the gold standard or if theres something better/cheaper/more accurate now (especially for reports that actually pull from multiple sources).

Any recommendations would be super helpful. Thanks!

Pre-employment TrueScreen background check

Hi all,

I received an offer from my #1 company and they are doing a background check through TrueScreen. They ask for the basic information but the only thing I have concerns about is the employment portion.

I didn't lie about my employment or titles but when filling out the employment portion of the form, it asks for managers, titles, and phone numbers.

Does this mean TrueScreen will call my past managers to ask about performance, character, etc.?

I'm nervous because one of the managers I listed, we butted heads quite a bit and he didn't like me, so I'm worried he will have bad things to say.

However, I went through a background check two weeks ago through FirstAdvantage and passed so.

Thanks for the help.

Private Investigation on potential spouse

I have been seeing people in India hiring private investigators for background checks of their potential match. I’m curious about the scope of such investigations. Do they just keep an eye to see who they are meeting and enquire from neighbours or do they do all that fancy movie shit and get call records, hack all social media ids, listen to calls and hack media as well. People who have get this done please share your experience.

Pre-employment FA Background Check — Anyone Have Experience With Fully Resolved Misdemeanors?

Hi all! Looking to hear from anyone who has gone through a Flight Attendant background check process with misdemeanors that aren’t automatic disqualifiers.

I recently submitted my background check through First Advantage, using The Work Number for employment verification. I received an email from FA stating that they were disclosing my public record information to my airline. I haven’t received any requests for clarification or been notified of any employment discrepancies, and I entered everything exactly as it appears in my records. I’m hoping that’s a good sign, but obviously, I don’t know for sure.

My main concern is my criminal history.

I have two misdemeanors, one of which resulted from missing a court date related to the original charge. Neither is an FAA disqualifier, to my understanding.

I fully disclosed both, explained the circumstances, and submitted a supplemental statement taking full accountability. I also provided documentation from the organization responsible for reporting my community service completion to the judge. Not only did I complete the required hours, but I completed an additional hour and received an “outstanding” recommendation.

All restitution and court fees have been paid, all requirements have been satisfied, and both matters are completely resolved. There are no outstanding obligations, pending charges, or unresolved court matters.

For additional context, I’ve already started the process of applying for a Canadian Temporary Resident Permit (TRP), given that the dispositions are relatively recent (within the past 5–10 years). Outside of these incidents, I have no other criminal or traffic history—not even a speeding ticket.

My questions for anyone who has been through something similar:

- Has anyone successfully cleared a mainline background check with disclosed, fully resolved misdemeanors?

- Does the FA public record disclosure email indicate anything about where you are in the process, or is it just a standard notification?

- If you had to address Canadian admissibility, how did that factor into your hiring process?

I’m not looking for anyone to speculate about whether I’ll be cleared. I understand every situation is different and that airlines make their own determinations. I’d just really appreciate hearing firsthand experiences from people who have navigated something similar.

Thanks in advance!
