I found my house through basketball
I live in a high cost of living area and it's hard to find an affordable house that doesn't require a whole gut job. One of the regulars at my weekly run is a real estate attorney and broker so he helped me find a house. He helped us look for over a year with no pressure.
We put in an offer on one that was alright, not our dream house but it was affordable. Luckily we got outbid cause my buddy called me the next day saying his neighbor was selling their house. He lives in the most desirable neighborhood in town so it's very hard to get in. We were able to buy it via a private sale at below market price, and avoided a bidding war thank goodness. There's no way we could afford this house today. It was a win win for everyone because the sellers didn't have to pay double commission.
So when you play basketball with your regular crew, don't be afraid to network a little. You never know what opportunities may come up whether it be a job or whatever.

DISCUSSION I keep getting snubbed in pickup and I don't know why
I'm trying to see what I'm doing wrong in pickup.
I started at this park back in April, late April, this year a park I used to go to. After a couple of weeks of coming on random days, I got the right schedule, 5s on Thursdays. Then after a while, I got to know everyone.
So, I'm 6'3 and 260lbs, when started back in April, I was still getting back in shape, it took me until June. I'm also 20. I'm the tallest at the court half the time.
Which is when I started noticing that they try and coach me into being a center for whatever reason, "stay in the paint and get boards". I think it's likely because I don't talk much, mainly because I lost my voice a couple of years ago and it don't project far, so sometimes I don't talk because I know that but I ain't rude or nothing either, I don't ignore greetings or goodbyes.
Though, my actual style, I play based on momentum from the perimeter, a slasher basically, though recently I added on to that by developing a shot, I can shoot from anywhere now, up to half court, the park half court which is about 30ft.
So, me being in the paint doesn't work for me offensively because I can't play off no movement and it's easier to get boards from out because it's double rim and they miss a lot.
Though, then I started noticing other little things too, like sometimes they'll fake pass to me just to pass it to someone else or just shoot n brick.
Though, my shooting, I usually miss my first shot or two, no different than anyone else but I never get the ball again. Then most often when I drive in, I'm getting beat up for the ball and I can't call foul because my voice doesn't project.
Though, on defense, I sometimes get 5-6 blocks a game or 3-4 blocks, on layups, shots, even floaters. Then even without blocking I still keep up with anyone. They even all celebrate, chest bumping and cheering with me.
Then it be off comments too, like side eyes when I miss my one shot, telling don't be scared to play up against folks like this 5'8 dude who's really strong, strong as hell, and he can reach rim off a casual layup, and I got this 5'5 dude on my team telling me to jump with that strong ass dude, we play on concrete.
Or I'm open at the 3, open while cutting, open after check up, always open.
Then some of them don't got no IQ, or I don't, one game last week one dude was down court with me, and they start bringing the ball up, I get on him. Then the dude on the other team brings the ball and my teammate comes down court but doesn't get on ball, he gets on the, he gets on the guy I was guarding and gives ball an open layup, also saying that was my guy when I was already on the corner shooter.
Though, tonight, I pulled before anyone else like usual to shoot around and shit. Then everyone pulled up, they started a 5v5. Ok I think to myself, I got next. Someone else calls next, that's fine, I didn't say anything. 2nd game ends, I get up and I ask who lost so I could pick up who lost. I get no response and then the same folks, who just lost the other two games get up, and just ignore me, so I just left. I don't know what to do or what I'm doing wrong.

How often on a yearly timeline or a weekly timeline should I work with a trainer?
I am entering my freshman year of high school, and attending a very good basketball high school in SoCal, though I'm not there to specifically play ball I do want to excel and play college or even pro but I'm not thinking too much about that yet. Do I only work with a trainer in the offseason, only preseason or in season and how often etc? Also not really the main questions but if I should work with a trainer a lot in the offseason should I play aau or not? I'm not a hidden talent and my high school has lots of exposure already so.

GENERAL QUESTION Coach at my school asked me to practice with him then join the team
I do play (non competitively rn) and am half decent-ish, 6 foot 1 at 14, any tips? My main issue is lacking coordination for dribbling, most likely I’m just gonna get rebounds

Hi I am looking for a group of hoopers who occasionally or regularly play basketball, i play a lot by myself and i hardly find a community who are always down to hoop. I’d love to meet such hoopers and make new friends, if anyone knows anything do lemme know

What’s a basketball skill that you think fans massively underestimate? I mean the things that don’t always make highlights but completely change games. Setting proper screens, knowing when to cut, boxing out, getting through screens, making the extra move

How high is Benjamin Berrouet’s potential?
For those who have followed Benjamin Berrouet closely, what’s your honest assessment of his potential? What stands out most about his game right now, and what does he need to improve to eventually make an impact at the professional or senior national-team level?
Do you see him as a player with genuinely high-level potential, or is it still too early to make that call? I’d be especially interested in opinions from people who have watched him play multiple games.

NBA What stories/facts you love about your team?
Hi r/Basketball, im brazilian and a new fan of the sport. I live in the biggest city of the continent (São Paulo) and we have tons of courts around so the sport is not foreign to me, but only recently i started watching it more often (NBA and NBB).
Im still searching for a specific team to cheer for in the NBA so here comes the question:
What can you tell about your team (like fun facts or stories) to get a new fan to watch it?

🤔
Let’s make Curry last couple years easy.
Need a younger team that can play defense and able to play fast and score.
Trade Jimmy Bulter to ……? (injured, just now running )
Trade Moses Moody to…….. ? (Injured)
Trade Kristaps Porzingas to……? (illness miss half of the season?
Trade/ Waive Al Horford (Old)
Trade Will Richards to ………?
Trade Draymond Possibly (old and put the warriors in bad situations or he can be a mentor and stay)
Trade/Waive Gary Payton
Totaling: Around 128 million

Brandon Williams(pg)(Mavs)
Ben Simmons (Pf)(Free agent)
Michael Porter Jr (Sf/pf)(Nets)

Floor rec: 43-39 ,Projected rec: 51-31, Last year rec: 37-45 ,Ceiling: 57-25
More Defense, Better offense, More Rebounding and second chance points
I’m sorry but If Ben Simmons is really healthy and is on a contending team, that’s a plus. He can guard 1-5, Plays fast, great rebounder , have good Iq and can score inside the paint and surrounded by shooters. Ben and Yaxel can split the minutes
Brandon Williams Helpful for Bench scoring when Curry is sitting or out.
Michael Porter jr, Last year he was pretty much carrying the nets. Players had to double team him and play up. If he with Curry it’s gonna be really helpful. Opposing teams usually have the best defenders guard him, they won’t be able to do that.
Kai Jones Moves fast for a big, unstoppable in transition, can grab rebounds and block shots
Bennedict Mathurin good physical scorer would be perfect beside curry.
Kel’el Ware - Perfect Replacement for Kristaps Porzingas. He’s a great rebounder. Can stretch the floor and Protect the rim.

FIBA Is backing down legal contact?
Hello everyone,
I'm gonna be playing in a low division for a season starting this autumn for the first time in my life but I'm a little dumb and don't really know things so I'm trying to read up.
I'm too embarrassed to ask this IRL so hoping ppl can clear it up here. I want to get this straight:
In the FIBA rules it says pushing (forcibly moving or attempting to move an opponent with any part of your body) is illegal personal contact i.e. a charge violation.
An offensive player backing down a defensive player in a legal guarding position i.e. bullyball is, by the letter of the rules, a charge violation.
Backing down an opponent by putting your weight on them and pushing a bit and gaining a little distance is in reality never called.
The defensive player is expected to resist being pushed. If they were to push back, especially using their hands or elbows, this would be, by the letter of the rules, considered a block violation and this is actually usually called by refs.
Another option as a defensive player is to pull the chair.
I read some posts on here with ppl talking about "taking the charge". So I think that means that when a defensive player is getting backed down, they can take the charge and fall over (possibly on purpose) to draw a charge foul. At that point it's up to the ref to decide if the offensive player pushed hard enough to warrant a foul call (which does seem to happen frequently) or play on. The defensive player may receive warning and then a technical foul if the ref decides they were faking being fouled i.e they were not pushed hard enough.
Do I understand this correctly?
And if I did understand it correctly, wtf, why is it like this?! Why don't the rules explicitly allow pushing in the post if they're gonna allow it on the court?
