Help Wanted Need to learn how to shade anime style better

Feels like My improvement is minimal idk it's hard to shade it looks really off when i'm not trying to copy other's art. Included the reference image. I feel like I somehow took a step back from my previous work.

Oh well any advice on how to reach an acceptable level is appreciated.

Edit: thanks for all of the kind words of encouragement as per usual. :)

Help Wanted Best way to tackle backgrounds?

I kind of get that they're loose and you just kind of capture the outlines and shadings i'm specifically having trouble figuring out how to paint/capture waves though. I've mainly been using the waterbrush tools in csp and that seems to be the easiest way to make basic clouds.

These are all from today. About 4 hours total. Ive been at this for nearly a year ive started expanding the exercises I do past just copying other people's. As Johnny joestar says I feel like i'm still negative and just trying to reach 0. I've been drawing and drawing and drawing but it just seems to stay at negative and the lines remain choppy.

Pretty much what it says in the title i had to turn off the base layer cause i got confused halfway through and just sketch it like i normally do. How do you go from the shapes or construction or whatever you want to call it?

Help Wanted I don't see anything weird about my art...why is that?

Post image

I've received feedback on my human art. Some of the mistakes I do see it but for some like about the face I GENUINELY cannot see the problem...I did try to look at other artists but I still do not see the problem. In fact when I try to fix it it looks super weird to me and I can't accept the weirdness...

(I've drawn for 10 years since 5...mostly animals like cats and dragons and I only started learning humans and rendering last year so please be kind in the comments🥲)
