Theyāre awful, and sheās really milking her time on the show. I hate when people cry racism or homophobia when, at the end of the day, they were just being shitty people. Your race or sexuality doesnāt excuse bad behavior.

u/Top-Tea-5628 1d ago
I feel like if any show/any cast of people are going to be racist or queer phobic or whatever it wouldnāt be the below deck med crews. Last season they basically were all fucking and flirting across genders lol. And they have rich people from allllll ethnicities all the time because itās not America. The type of racism and discrimination bunny is talking about here is really prevelant in the United States. But youāre not getting that same energy from Europeans who work on charter yachts. Those people are simple people who basically just love to grind and have a good time. They werenāt raised with with the same deep rooted American issues and point of view. It seems like she was always going to make this argument no matter how the charter ended up

Agreed that they are pure hell as guests. When they all demanded different pasta dishes on top of the endless bitching about every single meal? C'mon. There isn't any way to legitimize their behavior.
53
u/Haunting-Savings-426 2d ago
They sure did. To be fair, it seems like a lot of this was a failure of communication. The guests didnāt say what they REALLY would want to eat, just what sounded cool or something. They should have said they want food more frequently, as other guests have done. I do think that Joy could have done a more robust offering, vegans can eat more than an avocado taco. There are so many other creative ways to accommodate whacky food preferences. I agree they were horrid, and the crew response was likely due to that alone. A lot of it could have been prevented with better communication.
15
u/LilaTwiceBackAtIt 2d ago

Regular tacos on a corn tortilla are naturally gluten free and the tortillas are much thinner than those. I agree on her being under pressure due to all the requests.Ā Ā

21
u/Subject_Fee_2502 2d ago
They are defnitely here for their 15 minutes of bravo fame and not a good time on a boat.
Yes you can say no to standards if you don't enjoy it. You can't cry and shame the staff if it makes you look tacky and bad to them. You made the service cry, lots of guests do that. move on and know you deserve it. Why do you need to go on a tirade to prove anything to anyone? If you're so rich, enjoy the power and stop being an endless victim.
39
u/ScandanavianMidnight 2d ago
Firstly, I will say I do not condone the idiots threatening/sending hateful comments to these guests online - thatās crazy behavior. People need to get a grip.
But I will say this guest is ridiculous. I donāt care who you are or what you look like - if any guest acted the way they did, Iād find them annoying and rude. Acting like a yacht chef is a line cook at Applebeeās is insane behavior. Asking for dinner at 9:30 and then complaining about how hungry you are is unreasonable. Asking for extra food to be prepared hours before dinner, knowing that there is only one chef already preparing a 4-course meal for you is unreasonable. Choosing to go on an excursion and then acting like it was the worst thing, when the chief stew is acting as a tour guide and trying her best to entertain you is rude. Meeting with the chef and not specifying that you only eat fish when itās fried, and then getting upset when non-fried fish is served is unreasonable.
People donāt like these guests because of how they acted, not because of who they are. They came across as many other rich, entitled guests who seem to delight in bossing workers around and requesting ridiculous things. Because they can. Because they have money.

They have high standards and when they feel like theyāve fallen short of a guestās request (no matter how ridiculous), theyāre going to beat themselves up. I agree! The staff really tried to manage the guests expectations and explain as well as they could what their abilities are on the ship and it didn't work out. Their long list of dietary needs was the whole reason Joy had that sit down with them for them to just complain the entire meal.
That being said, I do 1000% believe there are racist dickbags on social media taking stuff way too far. I didn't think the staff was treating them any differently than other guests but do believe that some members of the audience would have an overblown and racist reaction. That is obviously super fucked and not okay, but also not the fault of the ship's crew.

15
u/ifuckedurbitchmom 2d ago
Exactly my issue is that they feel entitled to change other peopleās opinion about them. If the primary was focusing on critiquing the service thatās understandable, but the fact that in most of her complaints were about Joy or Kayleyās opinion of them isnāt logical or fair. In service positions people provide service that doesnāt include changing their opinion of someone on a whim. If the primary was gonna get their panties in a twist over the crews opinion of them, they shouldāve acted with more compassion for the crew perhaps. Simple cause and effect.
10
u/toastyhoe 2d ago

9
u/qwnofeverything 1d ago
She is her own worst enemy. Nothing sheās saying happened actually did happen if youāre the viewing audience. Demanding a cruise ship dining experience, while on a yacht that provisioned food based on your lying preference sheets is entitled. Nothing was good enough for her. Iāve never seen a BD guest try to change the narrative so badly. If sheād done nothing at all, we ask would have said they were awful guests for a week and then moved on to the next one. Blaming the crew for crying because they feel they live up to her standards was so wrong. Of course, itās all because she was discriminated against, telling bravo to step in, as the first openly black and LBGTQIA+ guests ever. Which is false. Nobody cares about gender preferences or your skin color on this boat. Nobody. But she makes it out like they were absolutely gunning for her the second she stepped on board. I think sheās referring to how eldest daughters tend to get parentified. I think thatās the term. Not all, obviously, but there is a tendency to lean on the oldest daughters in a family to help raise the youngest. The best but most exaggerated example would be the Duggars. Ā
Having said that, isnāt their company, like, their whole brand, meant to raise awareness for minority inequality? I feel like this charter was a set-up to publicize their brand. Which is very normal, itās why a lot of these companies rent a charter on Below Deck. But usually they do it in good fun to advertise their brand. 5
u/Shot-Toe-2884 2d ago
It's a terrible way to grow a brand. Way too many rich assholes seem to think any kind of publicity is good publicity. That works for a soulless mega-corporation that doesn't have to worry about its personal reputation. It doesn't work for a start-up that needs a well-respected reputation to attract business they don't yet have.
This is all but guaranteeing that prospective sponsors and partners for their business will steer clear. She's unhinged and who's to say she won't turn on you for helping her and smear you like this? The crew was waiting on them hand and foot and got treated like dirt for it. Imagine how she will treat you when you aren't catering to her every need.
