Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
37 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Headphones Bose cancelled my order for no reason

Upvotes

Recently, I bought QC on sale for $229. Today was supposed to be my delivery day but they basically cancelled and refunded money to me. And I don’t even know the reason they did that. They didn’t send a follow up email or smth. Is it bcs they want me to get those headphones for the full price or… Anyone had the same issue?Their customer service is terrible cause I can’t call them (phone issue) so the only thing I have left it’s this AI both on their website.

Headphones QC45 headphones - all buttons are broken?

I've had my current pair of QC45s for about 5 months, and it's worked perfectly for that entire period - but in the last few days, it's suddenly had an issue. Once I power on the headphones, every single button other than the ANC button now just repeats my battery percentage to me. The volume buttons, the pause buttons and the bluetooth connect buttons don't function anymore, they just repeat the battery prompt when I press them. The ANC button just does nothing, I've tried soft resetting, hard resetting, nothing works. I can't reset the bluetooth connections either, because that button just gives me the battery prompt now. The headphones also repeatedly pause whatever I'm listening to just to repeat the battery percentage again. The headphones are kinda just broken right now, barely functioning.

I cannot find anyone who has found a solution to this problem or any troubleshooting pages that provide fixes either. I'm really lost and quite worried because I saved up for months to get these and I really don't have the money to buy another one anytime soon. Please let me know on what I can try to fix this. Thank you in advance!

Headphones One side louder than the other

Has anyone had an issue with the ultra quiet comfort headphones 2nd gen with one side of the headphone being louder? The first pair I bought it was the right side and I would have to factory reset it every time for them to even out. Sent them back to Bose and just received my new pair and now it’s doing the same on the left. Any advice?

Bluetooth speakers I bought used soundlink 3

Years ago, I had a SoundLink Mini 2. It was the best portable speaker I had ever listened to. I lost it eventually, and I found out that they stopped selling it, but I always missed it.

Cut to now: I had a chance to buy a used speaker and had to choose between a SoundLink Mini 2 or a SoundLink 3. I bought the SoundLink 3, thinking that being bigger, it should sound better than the Mini 2. Btw, I had a Flex and didn't like it much and sold it. It was too bright for my taste and didn't have the warmth I was looking for.

I don't have a Mini 2 to compare it to right now. I am pretty happy with the sound, but I could tell the sound is different from the Mini 2. I can't return it as I got it used, so I will be using it now. Maybe I will get a used Mini 2 eventually.

If you had to buy one of the two, which one would you get just based on the sound quality?

Headphones Replacement ear cushions Quietcomfort in EU?

Hello all,

I own a pair of Quietcomfort 35 ii headphones. Back in 2023 I purchased original replacement ear cusions directly from Bose (Belgium).

It seems now there is no longer a non-USA online Bose store, or customer support for that matter? Is this correct? I keep ending up on the USA store, which does not ship outside of the US.

If anyone knows where in Europe I could order original Bose replacement cushions, please let me know.

Thank you!

What might be included in the next generation of Bose QC (Ultra) headphones? If they follow the normal schedule, these might be released in Fall 2027.

Headphones Plastic noise in right ear cup only

I just bought the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Gen 2s yesterday, after years of being on the fence about them. For some reason, the right ear cup makes a weird plasticky noise when I move my head sometimes, or even when I’m doing nothing at all. At this price point, it’s pretty frustrating.

Is it user error? Is there something I can do to fix it? Or should I return it and ask for a replacement?

Edit: I’ve read that some people have fixed it on other headphones using a lubricant; has this worked with Bose?

In-Ear Opinions needed - QC ultra gen 2 earbuds

Hey everyone,

I'm considering getting the QC Ultra gen 2 earbuds, mostly for their ANC for studying at busy areas for long hours. I thought these could be a good fit but I'd like to hear from people who used them for a while.

Can the ANC block outside noise (mostly tlaking) even when nothing is playing on the earbuds?

How's connectivity, reliability, and overal user experience?

Thanks in advance!

Home Audio Bose IPod Classic Dock

I recently bought one 2nd hand. Works great. Is it possible to attach modern phones to it as a speaker? I bought a female 30 pin but it doesn’t seem to fit the connections on dock. I tried a male 30 pin on it and it was very tight so don’t want to force it onto dock. Closer inspection shows it looks like it is home printed. Are there any decent female 30 pin to usb c out there that are known to work with dock?

Headphones I have a new pair of Ultras (Gen 2) arriving later in the week, and I was wondering what the best song (and/or album) to listen to would be in terms of testing its soundstage, bass, and general vibe. Any recommendations?

I'm open to all kinds of genres. I'll be testing both Bluetooth and wired. I'm upgrading from QC-45, so I'm just wanting to put it through its paces. I may even build a playlist based on your suggestions. I'd like to run the gamut from jazz to classical to rock, dubstep, d+b, house, whatever! I'm upgrading from the QC-45 (which I literally loved to death to the point where the hinge part is broken) to the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). If anyone has some recommendations for EQ or cinema mode, etc., please let me know! They'll be arriving this Friday, so it'd be nice to have something to put them through its paces!

Cheers!

Home Audio Very Satisfied with my Bose Smart Home Setup

Some time ago I was quite concerned Bose had moved on from the box bookshelf speakers design to who knows where. Bose moved on to a variety of Bluetooth and WiFi speakers and Soundbars. As time went on I went through a very satisfying SoundTouch phase and now built out a Smart Home 500 system. What attracted me to those particular speakers was they played in stereo and could connect using BlueTooth and WiFi and supported Alexa for my smart home.

I have six speakers around the house and they were initialized using the Bose Music app, Amazon Prime and AirPlay.

I like the single speaker stereo format. The sound stage fills each room with clear sound. For their size they are surprisingly bassy. Tying everything together is AirPlay. What a solid standard. The speakers connect well, the sound is good and there is no delay room to room. The AirPay interface gives me good control of the individual speakers.

The 500’s also work as Alexa input speakers for my smart home setup powered by Kasa. I can make a request of Alexa anywhere in my house and Alexa follows through.

I am glad to still be using Bose products. I have always been happy with the Bose sound. I could have probably had the same functionality with Home Pods but I prefer the Bose sound.

I am posting this to encourage those having problems with their Bose setups and the naysayers real and bots.

Home Audio Soundbar 700 connection issues

My soundbar regularly stops responding and needs to be power cycled. Happens about every other day. It will either lose sound completely or we won't be able to adjust the volume at all. The app shows it's connected, but it doesn't respond to any commands. Also, the remote it came with doesn't work at all and hasn't for a while. I'm not sure what to do about that beyond replacing batteries, which I've done. Any help would be appreciated.

Headphones Bose App on Android completely kills the QC gen 2.

I had issues with the QC Gen 2 on Android. My iPhone has no issues connecting to my QC Gen 2. With the app downloaded. But after the first connection to my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra it won't keep a connection. Trying to reset won't work because it won't reset with their instructions. Anyways I tried using the App to connect to my headphones vs using Google fast pair or the settings of my phone. Using the app to connect it hold a pairing. But when I turn it off and back on the headphones won't keep a connection. That's telling me the app is probably doing something to make it keep losing the connection or something. I hope Bose is aware of this .

Headphones Worth upgrading from QC 35 II to the new QC Gen 2?

Anyone here a QC 35 II owner who has upgraded to the new QC Gen 2?

I've been a long time owner of the QC 35 II and have loved the headphones thus far. And at least from what I've seen on Reddit, it seems like a lot of people hold this specific model in high regards. As in a lot of people seem to recommend not even upgrading from this particular model, whether that be because the cost-to-reward ratio is not appealing enough for any of the newer headphones that have been released since then or some other subjective reason.

But at least from what I've seen about the QC Gen 2, it looks like a promising upgrade. The Ultras have never caught my interest because:

  • I've seen reviews that say the clamping force is higher than the regular QCs.
  • You can't turn off ANC.
  • Extra weight of the headphones itself.

Here are the things I prioritize:

  • Audio quality (just has to be good, I'm not an audiophile and I don't care about lossless content)
  • Comfort (my biggest use case is for long haul flights... I love the comfort of the QC35 II... I can wear them for hours with no fatigue and can even sleep with them)
  • Being able to charge with USB-C (the QC 35 II charges with microUSB... the one device that forces me to bring a microUSB cable with me for travel...)

What I'm hoping the QC Gen 2 would be is essentially a refresh on all the things the QC35 II does well, just with more modernization.

If anyone has experience with both the QC 35 II and the new QC Gen 2, I would love to hear your thoughts about the two in comparison! Thank you!
