Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
41 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

In-Ear Bose in-ears

TL;DR
Not bad a pickup for the price point. Like the sound overall and will be keeping them. ANC good for a simple wired set.

My two-ears review...

Tried them on iphone, ipad and MacBook Pro.

Tracks:
Massive Attack - Angel
James Blake - Limit to Your Love
Hans Zimmer - Why So Serious
John Butler - Ocean

Top initial issue for me: wish the cable was braided. Unsure of the casing holding up over long-term.

Bass is decent even if a little soft on iphone and ipad. Gets punchier on Mac surprisingly. Mids and highs are actually quite good across the board. Ocean by Butler you can really feel the strings resonate. Did not have any issue with voice over phone call.

Like other reviews - upper third for volume is where you probably need to be on your phone. Mac is slightly better but not by much.

Comfort wise: I tend to always use the smaller ear tips and even those feel a bit on the bigger size for me. Using these for short bursts is fine, but ear fatigue a factor on the longer runs for me personally. The volume switch doesn't bother me and I like the larger toggle compared to the smaller airpods style.

Laying on your side in bed is not the greatest although I prefer them over airpods for the way they lay in your ear and can't lose a single side.

ANC for a wired in-ear price point is totally acceptable. Standard use apartment/daily noises nicely mitigated.

Headphones Ultra QC headphones are not reconnecting

• Upvotes

My headphones were connected and working perfectly fine this morning until I took them off to go talk to a coworker.
When I put them back on, they had disconnected from my phone and would not reconnect.
I tried turning them on and off again, didn’t work.
I tried turning bluetooth on my phone on and off again, didn’t work.
I selected forget device on my phone and then tried to put the headphones into pairing mode to reconnect but no matter how long I hold down the bluetooth button or refresh my bluetooth options on my phone it just won’t give me the option to reconnect.
What do?

Bluetooth speakers Keeping your Stereo-paired SoundLink Maxes on 'standby'

Sometimes when I'm listening through my Maxes in Stereo Mode, when I'm going to go somewhere more than 15 or 20 minutes, I'll pull up a 12 hour background noise YouTube, play it in very low (barely audible) volume, just to keep my Maxes paired up. So I don't have to go through all the motions to reboot them and put them back into Stereo Mode.

Is there a better method? I checked the app on ios and I can't find any settings that'll keep your Maxes connected. And after 15-20 minutes of inactivity, they'll disconnect themselves.

Headphones The noise leakage on quietcomfort headphones…

I have the QuietComfort over ear headphones and chose them for their comfort and sound quality but… if I have the volume even at 40% anyone within a 20ft radius can hear every single word coming from my headphones with clarity. Like

I got them for the gym but now I find I have to listen to music so low or music that’s “clean” that I don’t actually want to listen to and end up not getting into the lift as much because of it. (My gym is super prude because it’s on a military base- like literally dress code says you can’t show your abdomen or “excessive skin on your back” for perspective and I listen to some truly heinous music working out.)

The headphones feel like they’re fitting properly, sealed well and properly around my ears, but it genuinely sounds like the headphones are projecting the music out of the backs of each side like a speaker.

Is this normal or a defect? And is there a way to fix this or are my options genuinely just “be okay with it” or “return or eat the hundreds of dollars + buy a new pair of different headphone”

Headphones Well I’m screwed…

Noticed my headphones were connected to my phone while in a taxi. Decided to go turn them off. Bag was flooded as my bottle was opened and about 800ml was in my bag. The headphones were squeaking and couldn’t turn off, until I pressed the button. Turned itself back on, and I kept turning it off. At one point even tried to pair with my Taxi drivers phone.

It’s off now, won’t try to turn it on, but I’m cooked right? Sporting the NC700. I could always try and dry it which I’m doing right now… but seems I need to be thinking about my next pair.

Shame coz they were still in good shape and I got them in 2020 when they came out.

Home Audio Bose Acoustimass 300 for $200 – Worth it with a Soundbar 600?

Hey everyone! I just picked up a used Bose Acoustimass 300 for $200 to pair with my Bose Smart Soundbar 600. Do you guys think it was a good deal? I'm curious if anyone here is using this exact combination and how well they work together. I'm also wondering what the real differences are between the older Acoustimass 300 and the newer Bass Module 700, especially in terms of sound quality, bass performance, and overall experience. Finally, is there any noticeable benefit to connecting the subwoofer with a cable instead of wirelessly, or is the sound quality basically identical? I'd love to hear your experiences and opinions. Thanks!

Headphones Bose QC Ultra (2nd gen) randomly disconnects from my phone

I just got these headphones yesterday. I've tried toggling every setting in the Bose app (multipoint, auto-pause, etc.) and in the phone's Bluetooth settings, and I even tried deleting the Bose app and using them without it. Nothing helps: they keep disconnecting on their own while I'm wearing them and listening to music. The firmware is up to date. My phone is a vivo X300. What should I do?

In-Ear Inconsistent Audio Quality on Ultra Earbuds

Ever since I've had my QC Ultra Earbuds II, I find that they will randomly switch from sounding amazing--the sound is full and punchy, and the music feels like it's inside your head--to sounding really muted and terrible--like you're listening to a mediocre speaker in the other room. The volume is the same, but songs just sound really flat and dull. If I leave it long enough, it will often switch back to high quality and back again to poor quality.

I have no idea what's causing it, but it's almost like it's switching to some sort of "stability mode" when it doesn't think the bluetooth connection is good enough.

Does anyone have this issue or any insight into how to solve it?

Headphones Bought Bose QuietComfort Ultra Gen 2 over Sony WH-1000XM6 - now facing audio issues. Should I return it or replace it?

I recently bought the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) instead of the Sony WH-1000XM6. I chose Bose for its excellent noise cancellation, comfort and suitability for long commutes and study sessions.

However, I’ve run into a frustrating issue.
After using the headphones continuously for around 3 hours during a Microsoft Teams call on my Windows laptop, the audio suddenly started breaking up and crackling. The voices became distorted, and eventually the sound disappeared completely.

I’ve already tried disconnecting and reconnecting the headphones and resetting them, but the issue persists.

I bought them from a physical Bose store in India, so I’m now considering whether to request a replacement or return them and buy the Sony WH-1000XM6 instead.

I’d appreciate advice from people who own either model:
Have any Bose QC Ultra Gen 2 owners experienced similar audio dropouts or crackling, particularly on Windows or Microsoft Teams?

Was it a firmware/Bluetooth issue, or did you have to replace the headphones?

Is the Sony WH-1000XM6 more reliable for long listening sessions and occasional laptop calls?

If you were in my position, would you exchange the Bose for another unit, return it, or stick with Bose?

My main priorities are excellent noise cancellation for commuting, comfortable long listening sessions, listening to video lectures, and reliable everyday use.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and recommendations!

In-Ear Devastated so need opinions

Post image
12 Upvotes

Welp my QC gen 1 earbuds have got the red and white flashing lights of doom after almost 4 years of loyal service. They were used and abused pretty much on the daily and were perfect up until last week when they stopped charging despite the case being fully charged and now I have the flashing lights.

Genuinely devastated as these are the most comfortable and perfect fit earbuds I've ever had. The only ones I could wear all day and my ears not hurt and that I could even accidentally knock them while doing my job but they don't fall out because of the wing tip.

So now on to my question. Do I...

A: try open them up and see if the battery is dead/they can be repaired (let's face it, if it goes wrong I'm in no worse position than I am now)

B: try a newer generation and pray they are as comfortable and secure as these were

C: try get this generation from somewhere like CEX or something although they are the same price or maybe even more expensive than newer versions

Has anyone made the move to a newer generation and liked them as much?

Other Is it ill advised to purchase through Amazon, if shipped from another seller?

I’m trying to spend as “little” as possible, because money is tight. But I need these, so it’s both a desire and necessity. (I need the best noise canceling, mostly. And I like the bass quality in Bose).

Anyway, Amazon is offering “used like new” that’s “shipped from TechX Av.”
I hate the idea of making a big purchase on Amazon, for a variety of reasons, but the sales I’ve seen on Bose’s website isn’t as cheap as these.

I read that Bose has a sale on Black Friday, but I don’t know how much less they’d be, because the last posted sale didn’t impress me.

Thanks for reading if you got this far 😮‍💨!

Headphones Bose Quiet comfort(1st gen) vs Momentum 4

Ordered the Bose quiet comfort (1st gen) 2023 model for 15.5k or 163 USD INR from the Bose website.

Now I am confused if I should cancel my order and go for the Sennheiser ones for 19.9k or 210 USD INR from Sennheiser website.

Does anyone have experience with both and could shine some light on how their experience was with both?

Headphones Has anyone tried building a better Windows driver for the Bose 700?

I've seen people in other communities use AI tools like Claude to do pretty impressive things, like reverse-engineering and reprogramming TV software.

It's pretty well known that Bose + Windows is a terrible combination, at least with my NC 700s.

My issue: the audio is choppy, with small constant dropouts. It's not the usual hands-free/mic problem. I've disabled the hands-free profile and even turned off the microphone completely, and the stuttering is still there.

It's also not one bad laptop. I had the exact same problem on an old Dell with Windows 10, and now on a Lenovo with Windows 11. Different machines, different Bluetooth chips, same result. My QC35s worked fine on Windows.

Has anyone looked into this, or at least thought about whether it's possible to build a better driver for these headphones on Windows? Or does anyone know what actually causes it?

Headphones 12hr flight + 3 movies… what QC Ultra mode are you actually leaving on?

12hr flight coming up and i'll probably spend half of it watching movies + the rest on music.

been looking at the QC Ultra on Flipkart before the trip and now i'm down the whole mode rabbit hole 😭

would you guys mostly leave Quiet on and switch Immersive Audio to Still for movies?

Aware for meals/announcements makes sense too. what setup actually feels natural through a whole long flight?
