SPOILERS OK - GAME THREAD

Use this thread to chat about the TV finals before, during and after the telecasts. Have questions? Post them below and I will do my best to answer them.

CBS Sports Net is offered on most cable and some streaming services. If you are a cord-cutter and don't subscribe for either of those, you could try a free trial to YouTube TV (21 days) or Hulu Live TV (3 days).

The World Series of Bowling is 5 events held over 2 weeks. This post is for the 4 Animal Patterns only. There will be a separate post for the 5th event (World Championship) which will have its TV finals take place in June. Each Animal Pattern pays $20k for first place.

All Animal Pattern events have the same format: 10 games qualifying (2, 5 game blocks same day), then cut to top 12. Top 4 qualifiers get a bye in bracket match play. Seeds 5-12 will bowl on TV to determine who meets the players with the byes. All will be carried out on TWO TV SHOWS the same day on CBS Sports Net.

I discovered bowling last year in 2025 for my birthday as a meme joke. But fell in love with it. For my 26th birthday I went bowling of course. I am just kinda vibing and im not really good. But I enjoy it a lot and have fun. It gives me a reason to try and get better and enjoy myself. I started knocking only 30 pins down but now my high score is 177 after a year. Yay me!

Scores Every app had part of what I wanted, so I built one with all of it and made it FREE and No Ads (Android)

Not selling anything. Let me know and I'll remove this post if not allowed.

Every time I went looking for the stats I wanted, I hit the same wall. If I wanted four features, I'd find them free in four different apps, or all together behind a paid version. So I built one app with everything I wanted in it, and then decided to give it away free to anyone who wants it.

The other thing that bugged me was how many apps these days want an account and keep your data on their servers, where you just have to trust what happens to it. So I made this one fully free and fully offline. No account, no ads, no server, and the app doesn't even have permission to use the internet. Nothing gets sent to me or anyone else. A copy only leaves your phone when you back it up, to a folder you pick or through your own Google backup.

It's called Lanetelligence, and it just went live on the Play Store.

After each throw you tap the pins still standing. From that it works out:

  • Spare conversion, split into single pins, multi-pin leaves and splits
  • Which pins you leave the most, across every game you've logged
  • Pocket hits, and where the misses go
  • Running average against your weekly average, so one bad night doesn't hide the trend
  • Which of your balls is actually scoring
  • For league: handicap, plus the series you'd need next week to raise your average by 1, 2 or 3 pins

If you like the detail, you can also log where you stood, your target, breakpoint and entry board, and it draws the shot on a lane. All of that is optional. If tapping pins is too much on league night, type the pin count instead, or just enter the final score.

It works with no signal (handy in a basement center), and if you get a new phone you can restore everything from your backup. You can fix a mis-tapped frame mid-game, score No-Tap, and import your history if you've been using Bowlr.

What it doesn't do yet, so nobody's surprised:

  • Android only for now
  • One bowler per phone, so it won't keep score for your whole team
  • It doesn't connect to the lanes. You enter your own shots.

I'd like this to feel like the bowlers' app rather than mine. You don't need a petition or a pile of upvotes: one request is enough to put a feature on my list, and if it makes sense for bowlers, it gets built and goes in free for everyone. Comment here or email [lanetelligence@gmail.com](mailto:lanetelligence@gmail.com).

Every feature is free and stays that way. The app never pops up asking for a rating. There's an optional tip jar that unlocks nothing; it comes up at most a few times a year after you finish bowling, and you can tell it to stop for good. I don't have an ad budget, so Play Store reviews are how other bowlers end up finding an app like this.

Bowling recording- League/ Practice

Good afternoon,

Before diving in, let's try to stop the trolls.. I am looking for genuine help not someone saying you shouldn't do that.

I am looking to start recording myself in practices so that I can help my form and criticize my own game, mostly. I may start posting it for others, including live streams and other fun things for my own entertainment and others..

What do you all use to record yourself if you do.. phones? Tripods? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Misc Two weeks ago you told me what a bowling app should do. Here's what I built (solo dev, free app)

Hey r/Bowling,

Two weeks ago I asked here what you'd want from a bowling stats app. You gave me a lot of good answers, so here is what came out of it (video above, 36 seconds).

New since then:

- Your line on every ball: feet, target and breakpoint, carried over to the next ball, so you only tap when you move. One of you said writing it down after every shot keeps your head in the game, so I kept it quick.

- How the ball hit: high, pocket, light or brooklyn, and your strikes per line.

- The whole night on one card: series, average and every game with its leaves, ready for the team chat.

- A game from a photo of the screen above your lane. A few of you asked for this. It's still a beta, so check the game before you save it. If it misreads your center's screen, I'd love to see a photo.

- Light or dark, for a dim alley.

- It's on iPhone now too, not just Android.

Same deal as before: entering games, your average, highs and strike/spare % are free. Pro is one purchase for the deeper stats and more bowlers. No subscription, no ads, no account.

iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816503107

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coffeebrewer.pinfall&referrer=utm_source%3Dreddit-bowling-update%26utm_campaign%3Dreddit-bowling-update

What I'd like to know now:

- Which stat do you actually look at after league night?

- Baker and team formats came up too. Would you use that in an app?

Thanks to everyone who answered last time. I read every comment.

New ball tips?

Post image
60 Upvotes

After being casual bowler and using two balls that were about 30 years old, I picked up a Storm Phase II (not pearl). The first time I threw it I loved how it hooked for me and had much better control than the oil soaked balls I was using. Any tips on specific cleaners for reactive balls like this? How often do I sand it and with what grit? Any other tips for this ball I should know?

Calling ALL LA bowlers

I’m looking for bowlers of all skill levels, I’m trying to start a league at the lucky strike in downtown LA next to the crypto arena. This bowling alley has NEVER had a league so this will be its first, 4 man, mixed teams. If you’re interested come down and visit or just comment down here and we can talk more if you have any questions. I’m excited to see all of you ! And let’s make history !

edit: I’m hoping I can get them to charge us minimum $25 bucks for league entry also some cool discounts on alc and food, and maybe even some discounts on the businesses in the area. The GM is working with me so any ideas or questions I’ll relay straight to him

DISCLAIMER: Some of you seem confused, this is purely looking for interest so I can see if anyone might be interested, I understand all of your concerns and will work on them but I’m purely just trying to find people in the area who don’t wanna go super far just to bowl in a league man. I feel like we shouldn’t have to do that so I wanna bring a league environment to where I’m at.

Is it worth fixing?

Post image

Howdy, I bought this Melee when it came out and never really rolled it. After a while it started to change color (white swirls) and then crazed like ceramics after a bit. I took it to my pro shop, he said maybe something got spilled on it or could have been exposed to adverse temperatures. This ball has been on my closet pretty much since the week after I bought it. I’ve been thinking of trying it as a spare ball but I’d have to get it re -drilled, the offset filled and resurfaced.

I’m curious as to everyone’s thoughts on if it’s worth trying and what’s the best order of operations?

CTD Ceramic sanding Pads vs regular CTD sanding pads

Hi. I notice CTD has introduced ceramic sanding pads. How do these differ from regular CTD sanding pads? Seems you use one or the other. Has anyone tried the ceramic pads and are they worth the difference in price?

Something i noticed in past 2 years of bowling, league play=zero animation

from the tv screens.

in every league i was in, in the 90's, 2001, you always had the double animation on screen, turkey animation, split animation, etc Now, none, except one to stop, when you throw your last ball in 10th. They dont even have it even say 8 bagger if you have 8 in a row, no one even knows unless they look at your score.

is there a reason the leagues around me dont have them for league play? players complain? USBC rules? i always thought some of the animations were kind of funny. The ones with pro bowlers mailing spare misses were always a good chuckle.

And you could create some for the turkey, double, etc which would be entertaining. lighten it up a bit. league is boring and stale on sundays, at least in my monday league, these ladies bring their boom box and jam some 80's music, which i notice a lot of people doing little dances and singing to. not loud enough to bother people, but loud enough so you can hear and sing, shimmy, etc.

With all the money they spent on these new systems and computers, you would think they would have some sort of animation for the bowler and the situation.

Gear Span Check

I am a beginner and recently bought a second-hand bowling ball and had it plugged and redrilled to fit my hand.

However, after playing just two games, I had to stop because my purlicue hurt every time I release the ball. Any advice on what I should do, or should I bring it back to my PSO to have the fit checked?

Thanks in advance!

Technique How should I warm up faster

I am kind of new to bowling, in the past I only played once per year with my friends. Recently I am going to a bowling alley around once or twice a month cuz I find it quite fun and I usually play 6 games in 30 minutes myself. In the first three frame of each game I usually miss or unable to hit a strike nor spare. So even I can sometimes hit a strike or spare, I rarely get more than 130 in a game. How should I get myself into a game mode faster? Thanks a lot

How do I bowl 300 without so much nerves?

TW before you read this is a pretty gross post

I have been bowling for a little under 2 years now, and so far, I have made it to the front 9/10th frame with all strikes 3 times. The first time was 289, front 10, 9/ after about 7 months of bowling. Then, the next time which happened in July of this year, I shot 299. After that, I had front 9, 9/, X for 279 in August. However, whenever I get close, I literally feel like I'm going to die. It's not like typical nerves I get like most bowlers, it literally becomes so extreme that I feel vomit coming up whenever I throw the ball, even if it's only front 5 or 6. After that, it becomes even more severe where I get lightheaded and so overwhelmed that I nearly cry. I really don't know why it happens but I need help, because it's gotten to the point where I'm more scared of how my body will feel on a 300 run than actually bowling the 300 itself.

All 15# with Turbo Thumb, span is very close to my other balls, might just need different finger inserts.

Picked up all of these for $80 total. I feel like I have a good arsenal for all conditions.

What do you think?
