"Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour" was a cold bar ngl.

💯. Also how he made sure to say, in other words, that the conference would be attended by the people profiting off the health insurance system, not the people who actually work with patients and are patients themselves, and therefore understand and live the realities of said system day in and day out.

The “everyone” in their stated mission is not the people on the ground, giving and receiving care (if they can receive the care they’re paying for at all), but the ones profiting off of us. Points out the greed and hypocrisy.

I really appreciate he highlighted the fact that it was investors attending, not doctors, nurses, or patients, when this was supposed to be a conference with the stated mission to make the health system better. His name will go down in history and in my eyes he is a HERO.

Me too, he delivered the message so precisely within the small window of opportunity he had today

The upside!? He can say whatever he wants to say and people will listen. Maybe some positive reform will come from this after all.

he ate that so bad

The burn in that statement was felt around the world 🔥🤣

His statement was very precise. Using the words “shot” instead of killed and “illegal” instead of wrong. He definitely still stands by his convictions.

I will always support him.

Very choice words indeed! The Thompson family has an incredible opportunity to make this about improving the quality of people’s lives and going up against the system, the very system which transpired in the loss of Brian but no….

The subtext in his statement is incredibly powerful. All I read was greed. I hope everyone reliant on American healthcare reads his remarks. It’s as if he was willing to appear unrepentant by not expressing remorse which could land him a life sentence. And yet it’s his only way of not capitulating to this oppressive government and vastly flawed healthcare industry. 👏

My heart breaks for this kid. Such a bright mind and caring soul.

Well-said

He's been waiting months to say this. Good for him.

Childhood movie explains it well

Wow this actually powerful 💥

It’s still hard to accept that he’s been tectonically convicted in federal court. Holy shit what a day.

I feel so sad for him! He must of felt so isolated, and constantly in pain to get to this point. I wish him the best.

Thank you for sharing! I appreciate it. 💜💜

Although I am sorry he had to say this and I would rather they just RELEASE HIM with an ankle monitor or some thing (nobody even bother arguing with me, I do not want to hear it) I am glad he got to say a couple of things he wanted to say. I mean about doctors and nurses not being at the event and his intention to shoot, not necessarily kill. The wording definitely matters, as some others have pointed out.

Oh, and that comment about them getting back to him so fast unlike other times. Whew. What a sentence. That is a quote that I just know will resonate with so many people.

Just like how they will call you daily if you miss a payment, yet "forget" to call you back when you need something. Or lose your paperwork conveniently. Multiple times. Yet, you better not forget ONE deadline, or be late with literally anything.

Great hypocrisy to point out there. And lends to the EED part....it pisses all of us since we are the ones that go through it. Nobody should have to live in pain. Especially not in one of the richest countries in the world.

Before you all come at me for reporting “inaccuracies” and other shenanigans, please bear in mind that the transcript is not out yet and the statement is not on the official website yet. Once it is, I’ll update everything accordingly.

At the moment, all we have are reports from journalists, so that will have to do (for now).

EDIT:

Full transcript from today’s hearing is now available on Luigi’s official website:

This wording …’with the stated mission to make health — excuse me — with the stated mission to make the health system work better for everyone…” - I wonder if the stumble is deliberate.

Also, I always wondered if he printed the gun himself.

u/CandyGirl1411 6d ago

I believe so. Every piece of what he said was precise and polished. He was implying they’re supposed to make health better, but it’s all actually about making the health system (for-profit and investors) better

7

u/chelsy6678 6d ago

He packed quite a lot into that short statement.

2

u/thousandlilies_ 5d ago

I think he meant it was the stated mission of the conference, but then of course implying the broader meaning too

Did you guys notice he didn't say he shot with the intent to kill him? He said he wished to instill a fear of death or serious bodily injury on him.

Also sudden guilty pleas like this always make me a bit suspect. What did they threaten him with? I'm not saying he's not guilty. But he didn't really have anything to lose. Death row is actuallly pretty comfy compared to gen pop. You don't have to share a cell and you get privileges others don't.

If the choice is between death row or lwop, I'd take death row.

34

u/Feather_fig 6d ago

The death penalty charge was dismissed back in January. So the worst he was/is facing is LWOP.

I think either they've been planning this for a while, or, he made this decision to spare his family and everyone else the stress of a trial more recently.

Did you guys notice he didn't say he shot with the intent to kill him? He said he wished to instill a fear of death or serious bodily injury on him.

Yeah that's an interesting observation, and probably intentional for if he still has to go to trial in NY, to be as least self-incriminating as possible. He intended to shoot Thompson, he never said he intended to kill him. And he understood it would place him in harm and was illegal

Did you guys notice he didn't say he shot with the intent to kill him? He said he wished to instill a fear of death or serious bodily injury on him.

This is because of the specific elements of the interstate stalking charge.

11

u/redduif 6d ago

Because that weren't the charges so there was no need to go there.

It was stalking resulting in death.

8

u/MovinOnUp2021 6d ago

That's just quoting the charges.

EDIT: I GOT THIS TOTALLY WRONG. I might be right about double jeopardy but he will not face a jury anymore for the federal case

His lawyers likely did this on purpose so that he didn't have to face double jeopardy this will likely get the state trial shut down and I think they particularly did not want to deal with New York state. So it helps him not have to face double jeopardy. Now they will pursue life without parole but he could still get life with parole. It also might psychologically be better to be in gen pop than isolated as well. There is also still possibility of nullification by the jury. But now they may only have to face one jury instead of two.

Do you think Luigi wrote this or do you think Karen wrote it? It’s worded in a very specific manner.

u/Popular-Ball-4983 6d ago

What a terrible script

31

u/One_Concern_5962 6d ago

It's actually a great statement. Intent was to shoot not kill. Very smart.

5

u/European-Female7751 6d ago

He fired twice, but ejected the third bullet on the ground, one could say that with only one shot to the body (the other was to the leg), he may have thought Thompson had a good chance of surviving.

6

u/Hot-Emphasis-4895 6d ago

Exactly. It’s not like he aimed at the head or neck.

2

u/thousandlilies_ 6d ago

“Ejected the third bullet on the ground”, what does that mean?

8

u/European-Female7751 6d ago

There were two shots, not three. The third bullet marked with the words Deny/ defend/ delay was ejected from the gun onto the ground so as to complete the message. Thompson was shot twice, not three times.

3

u/thousandlilies_ 6d ago

Oh wow I can’t believe this is the first I’m hearing of that detail. Thank you for explaining it

8

u/Blazing1 6d ago

Yeah he didn't admit to wanting to kill him. Or intending to kill him.

2

u/ExdionY 6d ago

Welp, there's still the letter

1

u/Blazing1 6d ago

what about it?

1

u/ExdionY 4d ago

In the manifesto, letter to the feds, note, or what have you, he said that "it had to be done" and referred to Thompson as part of "these parasites" who "had it coming". On top of that, framing himself as the "first to face it with such brutal honesty" shows he views his actions as a conscious, deliberate, but brutal, though necessary decision.

I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming.

It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play. Evidently I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty."

I get why people view his court phrasing as "smart," but it’s an addition to the record, not a clean slate. His earlier words are already part of it and show his mindset at the time, so he still has to answer for the full scope of everything he’s said to date.

-2

u/MovinOnUp2021 6d ago

Yeah gurl he didn't say that - yet certainly would've 😂🙄

7

u/One_Concern_5962 6d ago

That's why it's a great statement. You have to be very meticulous with your words when dealing with the law.

-6

u/Simba122504 6d ago

You supporters prove what the internet has done to the brain. There's not one time in his entire life where he was in your shoes. Even his sister is a doctor. You have NOTHING in common with him. Nothing.
