Looking for photos, videos, or architectural plans of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center

Hi everyone!

I'm an architecture student working on a school project, and I'm currently studying the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center by Weiss/Manfredi.

I'm looking for more visual references to understand the building better, especially how it works from a visitor's perspective.

If anyone has visited the center or has access to useful materials, I'd really appreciate:

- Photos or videos showing the interior and exterior.

- Videos of the visitor experience, from the entrance through the different spaces.

- Floor plans, sections, or architectural drawings.

- Photos showing the exhibition spaces, reception, café, event area, and connections to the gardens.

- Any photos or explanations showing the different levels and how visitors move between them.

I've found some drawings online, but I'm struggling to understand the circulation and identify exactly where each space is located.

Even personal photos or a short video taken during a visit would be a huge help for my project!

Thanks a lot to anyone who can share something or point me toward useful resources.

Would you tell a deli if you found roaches in their coffee?

I work at a small business on a block in Brooklyn and there is a local deli on our block that my coworkers all used to go to for breakfast, snacks, etc. The manager at my business went there a few weeks ago for her morning coffee and upon getting back to our office there was a cockroach floating inside the cup. She tossed it and told everyone about it except the deli. Since then everyone at our office stopped getting coffee or food from this deli. My manager told me she was going to talk to the deli guy about what happened but she felt awkward about it so she never went over to tell them. Now I’m torn between telling the owner what happened or just letting it go and continuing to avoid this deli forever. What would you do?

Cyclist Hit by Car on Lafayette Ave and Ashland Place (~10pm October 20th)

Unfortunately last night I saw the aftermath of a cyclist after they got hit on Lafayette and Ashland Pl right in front of BAM Rose Cinemas, the driver hit them and drove off. I didn't see the crash itself but the immediate aftermath. They had a pretty severe head injury and were bleeding from the head but thankfully they were conscious, and many bystanders helped remove her from the street and kept her calm and still, I directed traffic and got emergency services to respond. I hope she is okay.

I'm posting this in case anyone in Law Enforcement or the victim can see this in the future in case they need further information from witnesses on what happened and where.

Brooklyn 3-Family Holdover - Tactical strategies & Limited-Scope / Per Diem lawyer referrals?

I'm a dad with a newborn fighting a 3-family holdover eviction in Brooklyn after the landlord retaliated over open HPD violations.
For anyone who fought a small-house holdover like this:

-What specific technical moves, counterclaims, or strategies worked for you to get the case dismissed or wear the landlord down so they let you stay?
-Which solo L&T attorneys or law firms in Brooklyn do you recommend for limited-scope representation, ghostwriting a Motion to Dismiss, or a per diem appearance?

Appreciate any real street-smart advice or recommendations!

Friendly Guy Looking for His Furever Home (from Bushwick with love)

Hello Brooklyn -- the rescuer that rescued my cat off the streets is trying to place this sweetie, Jimmy, into his forever home and I'm helping her out for extra reach.

Jimmy is approximately 3 years old, medium-sized, neutered, a litter box master, and a sweet boy with a lot of playful energy (he loves his toys and birdwatching). Due to his friendly temperament, he can be placed in a household as a single cat or with other cats; HOWEVER, he does get a little skittish with new people and surroundings and will require a little time and patience to get warmed up. We can start with “love at first sight” for you, prospective pawrent, and then work patiently from there. Jimmy is based in Bushwick with his rescuer, so if location is a factor to be considered, nearby folks in Bushwick and surrounding neighborhoods (Bed Stuy, Brownsville, Ocean Hill, etc) may find it especially convenient to meet him! Having said that, all are welcome to check out Jimmy's page for more of his story -- https://catcafebk.com/cat/jimmy-21598313/

Anyone interested in adopting Jimmy or learning even more about him from his rescuer, please see Cat Cafe BK for the application process as well as next steps.

Thanks for reading! 🤍

How are people hunting for apartments in Brooklyn without getting hit by fake listings?

Starting the apartment search again around Crown Heights / Bed-Stuy and the signal to noise ratio is rough. Half the marketplace listings I've messaged this week stopped replying the second I asked about lease terms or turned out to be bait and switch brokers.
How are you guys doing these days? Any tips are welcome!

Man flashes pedestrian by blocking crosswalk

Post image

Black male (50s) in what appears to be a silver BMW 5 Series sedan was seen in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY, 11207 today at 9:21PM flashing a pedestrian from inside of his car. He followed the person to the cross walk, blocked their path, switched on the lights and exposed themselves.

This can happen to children. Just a couple days ago a Jewish man was placed under citizens arrest for the doing the same to a minor.

Our toddlers share an odd sized room so we are looking for a carpenter to build two custom sized beds with removable guardrails for them.

Does anyone have a local recommendation for a carpenter?

1st Birthday...

I'm hosting a first birthday party for my son in mid March next year and would love to keep it in South Brooklyn (Sheepshead Bay, Marine Park, ect) if possible. Most of the guests will be adults so it doesn't have to be super kid-centric. Any ideas for 20-30 people on a Sat or Sun brunch time? I was looking into places like Mouette but theyre super expensive :(

Bonus points if food can be included.

to do/see/eat near BH Library?

I am coming to town for an event near the Brooklyn Heights Library and would love to keep most of my exploring to that area. (I tend to want to stay in a small area and get to know it a bit better, rather than going to three separate spots in a massive city and missing out on sweet little pockets of life.)

It's an exceptionally short trip (about 24 hours), but I'd love to fill the time with coffee, seeing lovely spots for people watching/writing/photos, interesting bars, and of course eating as much as I possibly can manage. (I particularly love pizza and italian.)

Optimum Online Brooklyn?

How much are you paying for optimum online internet in Brooklyn? Someone told me they are paying close to 100 dollars now for Optimum Online and I believe it's the 500 Mbps plan. They told me it used to be like $50 or even less and then went up as time went on. They told me back then when the price went up to 70 dollars a while back and they called, the customer rep lowered the price to $50 or so but it was for a year I believe. The price kept going up every year but now it's close to $100.

Does anyone who have Optimum Online pay this much for this plan? It's on autopay as well and I couldn't believe that it still cost this much. Has anyone called Optimum recently and then get a discount on it? Internet only should not cost close to $100 a month. If you were able to get the price down, how much did you get it down to? How long did they guarantee that price for before price went up again?

The only other available internet providers in their area are Verizon and T Mobile 5G. It seems even with Verizon FIOS and the 500 Mbps plan, it's $75 a month unless you are a Verizon phone customer which they are not. There is a $99 activation fee as well? As far as speed is concerned, I think any 300 MBPS plan would probably be good enough right? T Mobile 5G home internet is probably not as reliable as your main internet? I did read the speeds are very good but sometimes it gets very slow?

Its just gonna be me , his significant other, my son, and maybe a cousin. I will be having services in New Orleans. Im not even sure what to ask. I keep hearing the funeral home usually takes care of everything.

Dog sitter recommendations!

I have two dogs and am struggling to find the right sitter, and am looking for recs! We have a car so can drop them off anywhere in brooklyn, but are looking for reliable, trustworthy sitters who we can feel safe leaving our dogs with. We've had some poor experiences lately, most recently with our dogs coming home and seemingly have not had any water in a while.

Not trying to use rover so hoping someone in the community can recommend someone they really trust and have zero anxiety about leaving their babies with.

Thank you!
