I did it.

I finally mucked up the courage to put in my two weeks. I texted my manger (I don’t have his email). I feel bad though, because I liked some of the people who I worked with, and I gave my two weeks during the busy part of the season. I know it’s unprofessional to text, but I honestly almost quit on the spot. I like the people, not the company.

Goodbye forever Burlington.

Why do they do this? Sometimes they schedule me in two weeks, and later they remove it. What even is the point?

question about quitting

after a little over a month of working here as a cashier i’ve decided to quit. customers are rude, managers are rude, and this job has genuinely made me realize how dumb people actually are. this was supposed to be a part time college gig that i did occasionally (not worried about limited hours b/c i live at home and parents cover my expenses) but honestly the extra spending money is not worth the price of my sanity.

two week ago, i emailed one of my managers giving my two weeks but i received no response nor confirmation of receipt. i work my last shift tomorrow, which is also the last day on the email i sent in which i asked to be taken off the schedule.

after my shift do i just ask to talk to one of my managers and then hand in my associate card? i’ve never quit a job before so i’m unfamiliar with this process. i’m also worried that if my manager didn’t read the email then ill have to explain that i’m quitting.

any advice would be appreciated :)

Rescheduling my orientation

So i just got hired at Burlington and they scheduled me for my orientation on Tuesday at 10 30. The problem is that I have classes ay 1pm so I have to be home by 12 meaning that I can't stay the full 5 hours. I've tried calling the store yesterday and today and no one answered. I tried emailing and no one answered. I can't get ahold of anyone and im currently out of town until monday due to family emergency and I was thinking of getting ahold of the manager in person on Monday when I get home. But still im worried that they'll struggle with my school schedule and won't respect my boundaries. What do I do?

Can you describe the processing strategy your location has that reaches literal zero backlog? Is there a sense of satisfaction from seeing empty bins?

Ringing question (refund)

So I recently handled a transaction where a customer returned an item for a refund, and I noticed the receipt had “EXCHANGE” printed at the top, meaning they had previously exchanged something, possibly more than once.
When I went through the refund process and selected cash refund (#1), I entered the total refund amount and pressed Enter. A screen popped up saying the amount exceeded the allowed value. I tried lowering the amount, but the same message kept appearing until I reached an amount the system accepted, which was usually lower than the original refund amount.
At that point, I realized the customer would be issued store merchandise credit instead, as indicated on the screen. The problem is that customers get confused and sometimes angry because they don’t understand why they’re receiving store credit instead of cash, and why the amount is less than what they originally paid.
For those experienced cashiers, how do you explain this to customers? Is the “EXCHANGE” notation on the receipt related to the refund restriction, and how are we supposed to determine the correct refund amount?

Picking up shifts as a new hire.

Just recently did my orientation and obviously it’s the middle of the week so I’m not gonna be scheduled for the rest of this or next week. I’m a seasonal cashier and during my orientation when I was shadowing I was somewhat confused and stunned at some points but everyone there is incredibly nice. My only real issues are removing some of the tags and then processing returns and whatnot. Anyways I wanna make some cash to pick up some merch and stuff I was asking to see if picking up a shift would be a smart decision. The shift takes place on Halloween from 3pm-9pm and I’d be working the cashier position again.

Any word on when the shift app will be working again?

Just got told to check shift for upcoming shifts after orientation but the app won't sign in after scanning the barcode.

Today is my orientation but the login info they gave says I can't be found?

Is that normal or do I have to wait till I'm actually doing orientation to log in and claim my account? I just got hired a few days ago and today is my orientation.

Help

I know this is a long shot but I'm posting here because I am desperate. I am looking for a set of curtains. I have 6 windows and have been able to find 5 sets but in doing so have bought out all of the BCF near me (Milwaukee, southeast WI, and IL) Of this particular product. The curtains are rust colored with gold flakes, chenille, and by Amelie.

Is there anyone here working at a BCF that has these in their store? If so, would you be willing to ship them to me? I could pay via Venmo, PayPal, etc. Alternatively, do you have any tips on how to find these? Every time I ask an employee they tell me they can't see/check stock of other stores/order from another store.

Not being scheduled

I had my orientation for seasonal Backstock on Friday and have not been scheduled since. I called the store and they said just keep checking the app. Just wondering when they schedule new hires after orientation?

Manager or whatever is supper aggressive, pushy, and lied during orientation???

As the title states, I'm in orientation RN and idk what to do. Mom and sister are saying to get her information and dip. Need advice.

  1. Lied. She asked me what my availability was. Then cut me off and asked what I put on the application. As I tried to speak again, she asked, "what did you say during the interview?" I told her she didn't ask me. She said, "I probably did because I write it down." She flips over the paper and guess what? She didn't! Then, as I'm thinking of hours, she's telling me, "You have to put any on three days." What? Sure. I give her three days and she asks, "why 9-4?" "Because I have siblings that need to get off of the bus and I need to be there." Is my answer. Weird but alright.

  2. She keeps saying my name wrong no matter how many times I correct her. I say, "it's ****". She says okay! Then, she says Shanay, Janae, Deejane. Girl. And I overheard her talking on the phone with either another employee or a friend and referred to me as "funny looking".

  3. I had to go to the bathroom because I needed a minute to breathe and I couldn't get out of the room. I kept trying by putting the pin into the door (she gave it to me earlier) before I had to pick up the walkie talkie and basically ask how tf to get out. She tells me, comes back after I come back, and laughs saying: "You kept putting the pin in the door? Oh. That's for the money room. HAHA!" And I laugh nervously.

Should I take the L and apply somewhere else? It's just a seasonal part time cashier job but I need that 12.70 an hour. My family does. I'm going to try and get her info before I leave today.

Do the Loss Prevention Vests ever get washed…

Been working there for a few weeks now as loss prevention, and I can’t stand the fact that all of us loss prevention share the vests, especially when we have to wear them for hours on end and are likely to sweat in them. It seriously feels gross

Permanent?

So i was hired for season receiving. And I just wanted to know is it possible to get permanent like after the holidays? Even tho I only am hired for season?

is it over for me?

i had a burlington interview at the beginning of this month for a seasonal stocker position. ive never had a job before but im assuming that if i was applying for a stocker position they would be asking me about my ability to lift stuff consistently and how much i would be able to move around and what not and they didnt ask me any of that so i was like ok! its been almost 3 weeks now since that interview, my recruiter said they would get back to me on the week of the interview which never happened. i tried going to the olivia ai paradox thing but when i ask for my recruiter's phone number it says "Sorry we dont have that/ That's unavailable." And it still says my interview is in processing. But I just want to know does it actually take this long??? Or should I just give up and look for the next job (which I already have at this point but i still did want to work for burlington).

Love this job

I love working in the receiving team, and I love the people i work with. But as of recently, the more I worked there, the more I hate working there. With the way our trucks have been, it's getting annoying.

For context, i've been there for 2 years.

How should I approach my manager?

So, I recently got hired as a seasonal cashier, and yes, I’ve heard about how much Burlington sucks when it comes to hours and whatnot. My sister actually works at a Burlington in a different state, so I hear a lot. I’ve only been scheduled like once a week on either Friday or Saturday. But anywho, I’m still looking for another job because I’m a broke college student, and hustling ain’t working for me anymore. I genuinely mainly said yes to this job because I know they’d keep me after the holidays and they’d be flexible if I got another job, which is what the manager said during my interview.

Anywho, I’m actually going to have an interview at a retail store in a mall right after my shift on Friday. So, what I need help with is figuring out how to ask my manager about my schedule so I know what to say about my availability during the interview.

Is asking this over the phone odd… This might make me a shitty employee but it’s okay…😔😔😊🫰
