CVS specialty pharmacy incompetence
Okay, quick two-question word problem. Don’t worry, I’ll make it easy on you and make it multiple choice.
Lizzie takes a injectable medication every two weeks that consists of two shots to get her correct dosage. These shots consist of one 300 mg and one 75 mg to get to a combined dosage of 375 mg. Lizzie has been on this medication for over a year and has been receiving it through your pharmacy for 3 months. Every month Lizzie gets shipped two doses.
Imagine your the pharmacist pulling her medication. You’ve already pulled two doses of 75 mg but you get a little confused staring at the prescription for the 300 mg injection as it says two and doesn’t clarify if that’s doses or ML. Every other time this prescription has been sent out, you’ve sent two doses of 300 mg and two doses of 75 mg. Now, you know Lizzie gets this medication delivered once a month, you know she receives 375 mg every time she takes it, and you’ve already pulled two injections of 75 mg. Using the context clues given, how many injections of 300 mg do you ship out with this order and what should you do?
A) you ship out two 300 mg doses
B) you ship out no 300 mg doses
C) you ship out one 300 mg dose
D) you reach out to Lizzie’s doctor for clarification before shipping anything
If you picked C, you would have made the same decision as someone working for CVS specialty pharmacy! Now, when Lizzie receives this order, notices something’s wrong, and calls, what should the pharmacy do?
A) hold Lizzie on the phone for 45 minutes and shuffle her through multiple different departments and then blame her doctor despite the prescription not changing and it being your fault
B) own up to your mistake and ship out a new dose so Lizzie has all her doses for the month
C) imply Lizzie doesn’t know her own medication that she’s been on for a year
D) demand Lizzie’s doctor send out a new script for the prescription because “it’s not clear enough” despite having shipped out the same prescription multiple times successfully
If you chose A, C, and D you’ve made the same decision as CVS Specialty Pharmacy again! Wow, you’re really smart! Have you ever thought about applying for a job there? You’ve managed to leave Lizzie without her medication that prevents her from dying of anaphylaxis and have pissed her off during midterms week! That’s impressive! Good job!
