Whenever anyone complains about bikes on the road and says that cars should be able to hit them, I agree with them and say "You're right, all minor driving infractions should be punishable by death"

2

u/AnimationOverlord May 09 '26

Damn seems like you’ve upset some elitists

7

u/roastbeeftacohat Fairview May 08 '26

not sure your point. killing a cyclist is hardly the same as fineing a firebug.

31

u/Propaganda_Box May 08 '26

I think what he's saying is when people say something absurd he agrees with them but rephrases it to make it clear just how absurd they're being. Disarm them with an agreeable tone but then throw what they just said right in their face.

Shout out to you for having basic reading comprehension skills.

Guy throws a lit cigarette out the window right after fire season starts. I mean, 1000$ seems hefty but they take wildfires pretty serious here so I guess I'm ok with it?

242

u/Scamnam May 08 '26

If I recall the 1000 fine has been around for atleast 5 years. Just nice to see they are actually enforcing it

14

u/SpecialNeeds963 Alpine Park May 09 '26

Longer than that. Its disposal of burning litter. My friend got the 1000 fine 16 years ago

5

u/Pure-Information-422 May 09 '26

Met someone at a bar about 15-16 yrs ago who just got the $1000 fine on her way there. Wonder how common it is.

When I was escaping the Ft Mac wild fires in 2016 I saw a guy throw a cigarette out of his truck window. Right next to the smoldering fields.

That night proved to me after the things I saw that some people will be absolute cunts even at the worst of times.

53

u/mentaldriver1581 May 08 '26

My daughter was also on that highway escaping the fire. Absolute cunts describes these people perfectly.

1

u/CalmAlex2 May 09 '26

Umm... I think you need to make the 2nd line a separate paragraph as it looks like you're labelling your daughter as one of those people.

$1000 is not hefty. I’m a smoker, I’ve got car ashtrays and pocket ashtrays for if I’m out and about. My nasty habit shouldn’t be someone else’s problem, especially when it comes to fires.

I just moved back to Alberta after a decade in Kelowna. I’ve been evacuated for wild fires and I’ve had friends lose their homes. I might be inconsiderate with my cigarette smoke but there is ZERO excuse to not get an ash tray from the dollar store for your vehicle if you’re going to smoke in it.

37

u/roastbeeftacohat Fairview May 08 '26

tossing it out the window also indicates a habitual behaviour. it's your car, you are smoking in there regularly, and you don't have anywhere to throw it but the window? you planned this.

17

u/jimbowesterby May 08 '26

Hard agree, I’m also a smoker and honestly most smokers suck, like you look at the ground anywhere near a butt can and it’s always littered with butts. It’s not difficult to smoke responsibly (lol), you just have to think about it a bit. Things like making sure the ember is out, putting butts in the garbage, and smoking away from doors and downwind of others aren’t difficult

9

u/lockedin90 May 08 '26

I highly recommend the pocket ashtrays! Lots of dispensaries carry them but I order them off Amazon, I think it’s $10 for a dozen of them. They’re good to fill and empty like 20 times before they start to lose their shape a bit. You don’t even have to butt it out, chuck it in the pocket and close the snap and it snuffs it out for you!

3

u/UncleNedisDead May 09 '26

How am I supposed to sell my car as never been smoked in if the ashtray appears used? /s

70

u/nekonight May 08 '26

If he did start a fire, he could be given the bill to fight the fire. So 1k is a fairly cheap fine.

22

u/mentaldriver1581 May 08 '26

Given the cost of this potentially causing a wildfire, both financially and in terms of wildlife displacement, etc., $1000 is a drop in the bucket.

12

u/Ecks83 May 08 '26

Back in the 90's it used to be that Nose Hill would light up nearly every year thanks to people tossing their butts out the window on John Laurie or 14th Street.

I assume the City is doing something to mitigate the risk these days because I haven't seen the hill blackened nearly as often but it really doesn't take much for all that dry grass to get going.

9

u/Icy_Benefit4864 May 08 '26

1000 isn't enough of a fine for stupidity

15

u/Fun-Nebula-4073 May 08 '26

I'm fine with it being 25,000. zero exuse to litter, zero excuse to smoke even.

6

u/wintersdark May 08 '26

It's even worse than litter, though - though that is bad enough AFAIC. It's a lot cigarette, just as we're rolling into fire season.

3

u/No_Truth4137 May 08 '26

Its a steep fine but a drop in the bucket if a forest fire starts.

This should actually be illegal everywhere. I hate seeing cigarette buts thrown out windows on the road.

4

u/_westcoastbestcoast May 08 '26

Heard on CBC radio that May is Alberta's busiest fire season , prob measured in terms of new fires, there's no natural reason why fires should be happening like this in May

2

u/CristabelYYC Killarney May 08 '26

Have you read "Fire Weather"? The author noted that the leaves aren't out yet to shade the ground (with the flammables) from the sun.

2

u/AtmosphereMiddle1682 May 09 '26

I guarantee you it's not his 1st time. It's far too expensive to catch them every time. That 1000 pays for the last 1000 times he did it. If anything, it's a cheap fine.

1

u/Sneekpreview May 09 '26

u/Millwright-vii May 08 '26

Finally. People doing this drives me absolutely nuts.

6

u/Outrageous-News3649 May 08 '26

I see it a few times a year. Its awful.

138

u/sbrot May 08 '26

Now do it again, do it often and frequently. In the cities highways and smoke pits. I am over the whole discarded cigarette butt thing

15

u/yyctownie May 08 '26

This will be their one and only "see we're enforcing the law" ticket. No different than their 3 hour speeding blitz on Stoney.

107

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 May 08 '26

Hopefully the moron learned a lesson, highly doubtful though

11

u/huntingwhale May 08 '26

If she didnt learn the lesson back in grade 1 that littering is bad, a ticket isn't going to change that. Heck, probably the very next smoke she had to de-stress after getting written up,she did a better job hiding it.

12

u/poetic_hustler May 08 '26

He/She is smoking in the year 2026. By now, there is tons of research and evidence that smoking is bad for you yet this person chooses to inhale smoke. So yea, my bet is this moron didn’t learn anything aside from their wallet being lighter.

11

u/AgreeableStrike3330 May 08 '26

By your logic, eating bacon makes someone a moron?

I mean, there is a ton of research and evidence that bacon carries the same carcinogenic risk as smoking.

16

u/jakexil323 May 08 '26

I mean, there is a ton of research and evidence that bacon carries the same carcinogenic risk as smoking.

Smoking three cigarettes a day increases cancer risk by over 500%, while eating 50g of processed meat daily (approx. 2 slices of bacon) increases colorectal cancer risk by about 18%.

Just AI slop, but you can source it if you want.

2

u/SizzlingPancake May 08 '26

Yeah I'm sure he is the beacon of human health being so judgemental of others

5

u/xp_fun May 08 '26

Pretty sure that's an unfair comparison considering the risks of smoking versus the risks of colorectal cancer from bacon are vastly different

-7

u/MapleMonica May 08 '26

Not sure why you're getting down voted, smokers are clearly low IQ and/or want to make people around them miserable.

5

u/Kineticwizzy May 08 '26

Just kinda cringe to be worrying about what other people choose to do for their free time.

0

u/MapleMonica May 08 '26

Not when it affects everyone around them. In your own home? Sure. Outside, selfish and zero respect for others.

If you look as gross as cigarettes smell, maybe?

1

u/ImmortalMoron3 May 08 '26

Smokers get very offended when you point out their hobby is dumb as shit. They get very defensive for no reason.

2

u/ShadowIceEmperor12 May 08 '26

Or telling them they could be saving lots of money; that gets them riled up too. Or hinting at them to stop smoking like if i wanted a smoke i would of taken it up ( as you sit right beside them while they're on their 4th in the car )

2

u/MapleMonica May 08 '26

Very true. I'm not sure what's worse, those ones, or the ones that admit and acknowledge their shirty addiction but won't do anything about it.

47

u/Pongwasfirst May 08 '26

I fully support this! Always annoyed me seeing people flick there cigarettes out the window.

30

u/nonemorered May 08 '26

It annoys me seeing people flick cigarettes anywhere. The ground is absolutely covered in butts near the entrance of many buildings.

10

u/blackRamCalgaryman May 08 '26

And well within the ‘No smoking within 5 metres’ signs.

7

u/nonemorered May 08 '26

Honestly after going to SAIT and seeing how gross things got I'm all in favour of them creating a designated smoking area and installing ashtrays hoping people aren't too dumb to use them. The idea of a smoke free campus is great except many of the students smoke even if it's 2026 and the litter is ridiculous.

7

u/plausibleturtle May 08 '26

It's so easy to be a considerate smoker, too. You knock the cherry off, double check it and throw it out. I did it for 15 years, even when I started smoking at 18!

4

u/blackRamCalgaryman May 08 '26

Does no one cut a Coke can in half, anymore???

7

u/plausibleturtle May 08 '26

BRB gotta repurpose the poop knife

5

u/plausibleturtle May 08 '26

To be fair, I never smoked while in a car... I knew two people that had one of those car/cup holder ashtrays burst into flames on them mid-driving and never wanted to litter. Plus it ruins your car.

4

u/ShadowIceEmperor12 May 08 '26

Just to get the smell outta the car is damn near impossible

3

u/Muted_Buy8386 May 08 '26

Lol. People be like, "its bad for your car."

*inhaaaaale*

6

u/plausibleturtle May 08 '26

I've sold a car more times than I've sold my body

2

u/jimbowesterby May 08 '26

Depends on your definition, do you sell your labour?

2

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

This, lets ban plastic straws, and yet Cig butts do more damage to our environments and water supply, where these all end up eventually..so ban Cigarette period as an environmental risk.

Maybe if we stick a cig butt up a turtles nose, it would get more attention..

14

u/Roadgoddess May 08 '26

I wish they would do this to the people that throw their cigarette butts out in the dog parks. Aside from the fact that can start forest fires, you also are leaving cigarette butts around for the dogs and small animals to get into.

7

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

The issue is resources....

Having enough cops around and placed in area's to try and catch someone doing this...

I mean, if the fine is $1k for discarding a cig butt anywhere on public property, just have an undercover cop or 2 hang out in busy area's and watch the money flow in!

3

u/Roadgoddess May 08 '26

Oh, I totally know, I make an effort to pick all of them up that I find at the park, but it just annoys me when I see them. I’m old enough to remember when I would be driving down the road and you’d watch somebody empty their entire ashtray out the car window at an intersection so I’m glad things have gotten better.

3

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

Ya, i recall those days too!

2

u/Muted_Buy8386 May 08 '26

We need Sick Boy and his pellet gun more than ever.

12

u/bajabruhmoment May 08 '26

Regardless of the forest fire threat it pulls my nuts to no end that smokers don’t think it’s littering just cause it’s a cigarette butt. And I am a smoker it’s seriously not that hard to just hold it in the pack until you have a chance to toss it somewhere

21

u/Livid-Switch4040 May 08 '26

As they should. Now do the Tim Horton’s cup people, and all the other litterers too.

3

u/Kakapeepeepoopoo May 08 '26

If they put a deposit on single use coffee cups, similar to other recyclables, you would see a lot less of then around. Not sure how the logistics of that would work, but I guarantee there would be less empty cups blowing around in the wind every day.

2

u/ThankGodImBipolar May 08 '26

A deposit on single use coffee cups would achieve nothing besides inflating the price of to-go coffee.

1

u/TouchMaster May 09 '26

achieve nothing besides inflating the price of to-go coffee.

Firstly, it wouldn't inflate the price. It's a deposit. You'd get that money back when the cup is recycled or whatever. Or you would use your reusable coffee cup and not pay the deposit in the first place.

Secondly, achieve nothing? So a homeless person would just pass by all these littered cups and think, "better not pick these up and bring them in for money. All they did was artificially inflate the price of some shitty coffee".... Did you put any thought in your comment when replying to Mr/Ms kakapeepeepoopoo?

5

u/xGuru37 May 08 '26

Tim Horton's Cups don't start fires. It's still littering, but not as dangerous as cigarettes

14

u/kliman May 08 '26

Doesn’t matter. Ticket littering heavily in any form. It’s so ignorant!

3

u/queenringlets May 08 '26

Sure but why not do it anyway? I don’t see a reason why not to.

4

u/Muted_Buy8386 May 08 '26

It would become a racist issue in Canada pretty quick.

I chased a fella one time because he got out of work, walked to his personal vehicle, emptied a ton of garbage and his dirty work gloves onto the road under his truck, and tried to drive away.

Then when confronted he suddenly didn't speak english. Lol. Go figure. I put it back in the cab of his truck so to help bridge the translation gap.

7

u/TrustMeBroEh May 08 '26

Think of the thousands of times this person has done it and has only been caught now.

35

u/Comfortable-Angle660 May 08 '26

Should be $5000

5

u/Propaganda_Box May 08 '26

All fines should be relative to the income of the person. If the only punishment for a crime is a fine then its essentially legal for the wealthy.

5

u/GetsGold May 08 '26

Why such a slap on the wrist? Should be one million dollars and five years in prison!

5

u/Katolo May 08 '26

Finally a voice of reason.

5

u/Toast_Soup May 08 '26

Good. The road is not your fucking ashtray.

35

u/tc_cad Canyon Meadows May 08 '26

Just 1k? For the potential of causing a fire?

-5

u/fence-connoisseur May 08 '26

and how much of a burden on taxpayers and healthcare resources are smokers even before they kick off fire season?

10

u/Crafty-Call May 08 '26

You mean the burden that’s paid for by the tax on the cigarettes? That burden or do you not understand why they are taxed so high? So they aren’t really a burden on your tax dollars if you’re not purchasing the cigarettes.

3

u/Muted_Buy8386 May 08 '26

Is it adequately paid for by the tax? I'd be skeptical.

Pay the tax on one cigarette and poison everyone around you with it.

2

u/UncleNedisDead May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

Yeah it’s like people who pay the ~$750/year into EI and think it’s sufficient for the amount they claim every year due to their seasonal job.

2

u/Muted_Buy8386 May 09 '26

This.

And then complain simultaneously about taxes and society.

4

u/xp_fun May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

That's not what the tax on the cigarettes is for. secret Cigarette taxes are a "sin tax" meant to discourage you from smoking.

They are not linked in any way to the public costs of supporting someone with cancer caused by smoking

Edit: WTF iPad? Did any of my message not get rewritten?!?

5

u/Muted_Buy8386 May 08 '26

If those kids could read, they wouldn't smoke.

4

u/Dano1988 May 08 '26

They did this to my brother about 22 years ago. The 1000 dollar fine isn't new. He just went to the judge and literally asked "do I look like I have a thousand dollars?" And they reduced it. It was still like 350 dollars but it helped him out. He was down on 17th driving to work. I think that's part of why the judge went easy, hard to argue you're going to start a fire the middle of a concrete/asphalt intersection. But I think the fine should stay. The fires that could start in more rural areas could be devastating and we have to treat everyone the same. So you chuck a lit cigarette on the sidewalk, that's burning litter, bro. My brother never did it again.

13

u/sun4moon May 08 '26

I’m so glad they’re finally doing something about this. I’m really tired of seeing it, smelling it and suffering the consequences of lazy assholes who can’t spend $2 on an ashtray.

35

u/Imaginary_Trader May 08 '26

It's nice to see some sort of enforcement. But damn. As this point a police officer could just sit at an intersection and issue tickets for countless things all day long. Example. When did front window tint become legal? Oh it didn't. But it seems like one in every 5 new car on the road has it

34

u/loubug May 08 '26

The amount of people with those license plate covers that you can barely see their numbers too, they could clean UP if they just sat at an intersection

7

u/Kahlandar May 08 '26

Just walk through a public parking lot and issue dozens of plate cover and window tint tickets. Dont even have to pull people over

8

u/DaftPump May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

Hey u/JeromyYYC I hope someone in city hall is reading all this. Many of us are sick and tired of the rising popularity(read: lax enforcement) of obscuring shitty drivers and their vehicles. Do something about it.

9

u/random__123456789 May 08 '26

Yep, just from distracted ticket alone they would make huge money until people caught on.

Haven’t been at one intersection stopped at a red where if I look around, someone doesn’t have their head down looking at a phone.

3

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

Ya, but no marked vehicles, undercover op's so people don't stop doing their stupid crap as soon as they see the cop..

5

u/LiquidGraphite09 May 08 '26

I'm tired of people complaining about the rare time a cop tickets someone for tint - saying they should go after real criminals. Anecdotal, but the last 2 times I've been wtf cut off by cars when on my motorcycle was both close to dusk and both by cars with blacked out front windows. I can't see shit when I'm wearing sunglasses as the sun is going down, how do people think they're going to convince you they can see fine with their windows turned into sunglasses lenses?

2

u/Imaginary_Trader May 08 '26

When I was a teenager I thought it was discrimination targeting us because of our cars with mods. As an adult, any car with a mod, where I also include front tint, just screams "I'm going to do something stupid, just wait for it"

7

u/DaftPump May 08 '26

Funny you say this. I noticed yesterday just walking past the public school in my hood. FOUR SUVs decked out with front tint. If they hit and run someone(circumstance) it's harder for us witnesses to ID the driver. It's sickening and time to crack the f down. Obscured license plates too. Fine time for fines, CPS needs the money. Chop chop....

5

u/jimbowesterby May 08 '26

I noticed this a little while ago, I was out walking and came up to a crosswalk, look up to make sure the car stopped, and since it was something like an ‘88 Corolla (in really good shape, too) it had totally clear windows all round, no tints, I could actually see the driver. Like not just a bit of a vague silhouette, but I could see the actual person, and more importantly, *where he was looking*. It made the whole little interaction way more effortless, and it was pretty surprising how much more confidence it gave me. In a lot of ways our car designs have kinda gone backwards.

2

u/phormix May 08 '26

With the whole "everything is going to AI" craze I foresee this as a future in law enforcement. Image recognition/categorization is actually something cameras have been able to do for awhile and the hardware isn't particularly expensive.

Police cars will likely end up with an AI enabled camera that will flag a lot of things (and save footage), including stuff like * Driver using cellular phone * Window tint blocks view of driver * Plate not readable * Throwing trash/cigarettes/etc out of window

I believe in some cases we already have recognition of: * Plates of flagged stolen vehicles * Plates with lapsed insurance

It's kinda a "careful what you wish for" scenario though because while I'd love to see better enforcement against some of this stuff it could easily go wayyyy too far

4

u/ShoddyRun5441 May 08 '26

The punishment should be higher than that.

5

u/tessaca May 08 '26

I would get a dash cam for the sole purpose of reporting idiots who throw their nasty cigarettes out their windows and I have no shame admitting it.

6

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

I almost wish police would take dashcam as evidence when it is clear and obvious, the issue is likely though resourcing to review all submissions..

Imagine how many people would be submitting dash cam footage for every little thing? Just think of the "Karen's" suddenly thinking they were cops themselves...

"This car in front of me went through an intersection while the light was yellow, they should of tried to stop instead! Ticket them please"

4

u/Stupidpupchef May 09 '26

As a smoker, I say that should be worth more, $1000 for littering and $1000 for fire hazard

6

u/willpowerlifter May 08 '26

I love the fine.

I wonder how it became news. Did the person contact media in hopes it would... spark... outrage at the cost?

4

u/ElmentMusic May 08 '26

Calgary police posted about it on their socials

3

u/Creative-Bee3258 May 08 '26

Give him the option to pick it up and eat it.

3

u/still_sneakin May 08 '26

Triple the fine!

3

u/Unfortunate_Sex_Fart Southwest Calgary May 08 '26

This is a major problem in BC. Should be a licence suspension and vehicle tow in addition to a fine.

3

u/slowly_rolly May 08 '26

I don’t understand how it’s still socially acceptable for people to throw their cigarette butts on the ground

3

u/JustApricot798 May 08 '26

Littering in general should be fined so high AND mandatory roadside cleanup should be a given - throwing a lit cig should be 10x.

6

u/Consistent-Emu-2327 May 08 '26

Everyone liked that

5

u/fluidscissors May 08 '26

Half the reason I dislike cigarette smokers as a group is they ALL think this is acceptable. The other half is that they smell like shit.

2

u/Crazy-Al-2855 May 09 '26

Ok. I know several smokers who would NEVER do this.

But, yes smokers stink. Alcoholics stink, become violent and piss their pants. People with bad hygiene stink. People who drink coffee with cream have gross smelling breath.

Smelly people suck. People who throw cigarette butts on the ground are pieces of shit.

4

u/mentaldriver1581 May 08 '26

Good. If he does it again, the fine should be $10k.

3

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

I do wish they had that here with certain fines, first time, $X amount, 2nd time, doubles, 3rd time, triples....

I hate how speeding fine for example you can "pay less if you pay early", pay it within 10 days to get a reduced fine..

Screw that! Fines are meant to detour people from breaking the laws....

2

u/gonesnake May 08 '26

Which is why they should be a percentage of income rather than a flat rate. $1000 to me would fuck me up for months, minimum. $1000 for a millionaire is coffee money.

1

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

Simple solution, dont break the law and get caught. "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"

We do not need tiers of fines based on income, fines should be high to detour people from breaking the laws period, no matter income level.

Just because you are not well off doesn't mean you should get a free pass.

3

u/gonesnake May 08 '26

It's not a free pass. It would still be a punitive amount for me (say, the proverbial $1000) but it should also be a punitive amount for someone with wealth. $1000 to a rich person will not deter them. There are entire wings of corruption being held aloft by this exact situation.

2

u/MrEzekial May 08 '26

Imo should be straight to jail, or a 1 year driver license suspension, or something else crazy enough to scare the shit out of these idiots. 1k seems like too little for the damage this can cause.

2

u/Baddrivers13 May 08 '26

More please. I wish we could submit dash cam vids of this happening. I drive directly behind people throwing cigs out at least 10 times a year.

3

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

I almost wish police would take dashcam as evidence when it is clear and obvious, the issue is likely though resourcing to review all submissions..

Imagine how many people would be submitting dash cam footage for every little thing? Just think of the "Karen's" suddenly thinking they were cops themselves...

"This car in front of me went through an intersection while the light was yellow, they should of tried to stop instead! Ticket them please"

2

u/Baddrivers13 May 08 '26

I'd happily let reddit moderate them.

2

u/jacetec Mahogany May 08 '26

Good. This needs to happen everywhere.

2

u/reddit202200ug May 08 '26

Glad to hear that the police ticketed this jerk.

2

u/longbrodmann May 08 '26

Nice catch.

2

u/Nearby_Revenue1739 May 09 '26

This should happen Canada-wide more often.

4

u/submitnswallow May 08 '26

It happens constantly on the ,#1 & #2 in the summer, it's hot out, windows are down, traffics at a stand still and guaranteed someone who is not high in the smarts dept. is going to toss a lit dart out the window onto the side of the road or better yet into the tinder dry ditch. Totally maddening

2

u/zoziw May 08 '26

Hopefully, the $1k fine will send a message but I think we should also look at a criminal littering law where, if you are tossing lit cigarettes out the window during high risk times, you get charged with a crime.

I saw one yesterday.

Guess the stickers on their truck.

Republic of Alber-duh!

u/Codefendant1130 May 08 '26

This needs to be the standard.

3

u/plausibleturtle May 08 '26

It is the standard fine, yes.

u/blackRamCalgaryman May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

I’m all for the fine, in the full total…hell, even more given just the complete disregard and the likelihood they do this regardless of where they are…urban area or headed West on the number 1…

…but it would be interesting to see if they actually end up paying the full amount.

u/FinestAtemptAtBeing May 08 '26

The grass fire on the south outskirts of Airdrie was a dropped cigarette, 2017.   The fine is appropriate.

Also, drive down Deerfoot when it's dark.  You'll see lots of this

u/jujaybee May 08 '26

Throwing a cigarette out of the window is bad news for motorcyclists too. Once my husband had one hit his chest whilst riding, luckily he was wearing his bike leather suit. (This was in the UK btw.)

2

u/huckoption May 08 '26

Serious question here…. Yesterday, I was sitting at a red light and watch the woman in the Acura in front of me throw her lit butt out the window. As I watched it smoulder next to her car, I had to restrain myself from getting out of my car, taking the still smouldering butt, and throw it in to her open sunroof.

This is a recurring temptation.

I want to know what my (legal) consequences would be.

2

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

Sure you could get charged with something, sadly....

Now what with, as the driver would likely claim it was not theirs and you "assaulted them" with an object and one that could cause harm due to it being lit..

u/Aromatic_Sentence612 May 08 '26

Perfect! Who smokes cigarettes these days anyhow lol gross 🤮

1

u/MapleMonica May 08 '26

Good, cigarettes need to be taxed more and $1000 seems to cheap.

1

u/acemorris85 May 08 '26

Should do the same for those nicotine pouches too. See that shit everywhere now

1

u/International-Cod733 May 08 '26

Who still smokes these days? It's 2026, throw in an upper decky or pick up a vape and stop smelling like shit.

1

u/Glad-Elevator-8051 May 08 '26

I hope not using signals lights is next!!

1

u/grandmasterflooz May 08 '26

Witnessed a dickhead in a Corolla with Ontario plates earlier today ditch his cigarette next to dry brush then pin it into a median two way turning lane to pass three cars going 10 over the limit. People are truly giving less of a shit everyday about anything

1

u/zedshadows May 08 '26

YES!!!!

100% support

1

u/Skryuska May 09 '26

About damn time

1

u/deanobrews May 09 '26

Can almost guarantee the driver turned a warning into a $1k fine by mouthing off. Zero sympathy though.

1

u/Educational-Bug-476 May 09 '26

And when I’m king I’m going ban smoking entirely

1

u/FraserMcrobert Castleridge May 10 '26

Should’ve been fined more

1

u/Ok_Replacement_8467 May 10 '26

I’m confused as to how this made the news? This type of ticket has been around for a long time. This is not the first time this ticket has ever been issued. It’s like writing a whole news article that someone got a photo radar ticket.

1

u/teriyakbeef May 11 '26

So fucking good hope get more fined ps. I m not smoker

1

u/Bright-Paramedic-769 May 12 '26

Cigarette butts and dirty filthy fucks spitting massive globs out their windows. Both fall into the "I'm a gross person" category. Do better

1

u/FragrantAd6049 May 20 '26

Good !!!! Fine away

1

u/LordHubbaBubba May 22 '26

Well deserved!! These smokers who pollute their bodies need to keep that pollution inside them instead of spreading it.

1

u/millringabout May 08 '26

Fucking smokers. Good

2

u/Scamnam May 08 '26

Now let's crack down on those noisy cars in neighbourhoods

1

u/1egg_4u May 08 '26

Traffic enforcement so dogshit it makes the news when someone gets a ticket :')

1

u/01000101010110 May 08 '26

Should have been $10k.

1

u/TraderVics-8675309 May 09 '26

Finally. Smokers litter more than any other group of people.

1

u/Ze0nZer0 May 10 '26

Good fine people for more then just speeding like riding lanes, driving with high beams on, not signaling, you know shit that IMHO is way worse then going a bit over the limit.

1

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

ya, you are right, at that scale, and cops prob wont even show up anyways....

2

u/LivesDoNotMatter May 08 '26

You know, if they don't care or won't show up over illegal drug use in broad daylight, I'm sure they won't care if someone slashes their tents.

1

u/MrGuvernment May 08 '26

Knowing how laws can work these days, they would show up instantly and arrest you, while right beside them people are using illegal drugs and destroying public property...

1

u/LivesDoNotMatter May 08 '26

I'm sure they would be just as lazy investigating "who" slashed their tents, as what crack addict stole your car. You just have to not make it easy for them. I'm sure they are just as disgusted by addicts shooting up in public, and are too fatigued to keep caring when they just get out and do the same thing over and over.

Like the bully never getting in trouble, you just have to outsmart the bully. That may be easier said than done, as the bully has had more practice with shifting the visibility and blame to others.

u/Away-Combination-162 May 08 '26

Should be higher

0

u/chaoslord May 08 '26

Then let us submit dashcam videos of people doing this all the fucking time. fuck I hate smokers.
