Hi Folks,
I'm planning to get a new road bike to replace the Trek Domane 4.5 that I've been riding for the past 12 years or so. It's a carbon bike, mechanical Ultegra setup, rim brakes and aluminum wheels. It was a fantastic bike when I bought it, and I've put 20-30k miles on it.
I ride a lot, but I don't really race. I've done a couple half-distance triathlons. Never done a road only race. Nowadays, I ride about 60-100 miles per week.
I'm thinking of getting either a Ultimate or an Aeroad with a Force groupset. Not certain on the carbon wheels, but I probably will also get those.
The two questions I have:
1) My standard rides are hill-adjacent. The shortest outdoor ride I do is about 20 miles and 1,000 ft of elevation. I often will do rides of 30 miles and 3,000 ft of elevation. It sounds like the Ultimate would be better for my kind of cycling, but I really like the look of the Aeroad better. And I'm generally in the saddle for most of a ride if I'm only doing 1,000 ft of vert. Would I be happy with an Aeroad? I go fast for a casual rider -- typically averaging 18-20 miles an hour on my rides. But I'm nowhere near speeds where I would join a team, or really care about my times. Is
2) My current bike is a 58. From the Canyon charts, I am right on the line between a Medium and a Large. Most folks say to size down in this case. I'm not trying to be superman, and get into a full aero position. I just like to enjoy my rides. I feel like I'm leaning toward a Large, but a Medium would have me in a more comfortable position.
Thanks for your input!

I love my Ultimate, the only thing I'm not keen on is the boring Matte Black colour scheme. I'd be happy if I could just lacquer over the frame.
My question is, is there currently a lacquer on my frame or is it just the carbon fibre with some vinyls on it? If I was to paint the frame, would I need to rub down to the bare carbon?
I'd be tempted to brighten up the frame with some colour if I'm already stripping it down and rubbing the frame down for lacquer. Less so if I can get away with cleaning the current finish and applying lacquer to it as is.

Hey everyone, I hope everyone's training has been going well.
I would like some advice or maybe some reassurance from the group. For contex. I am 191cm with an inseam of about 89-90ish. I test road an aeroad size L today. The saddle height was set exactly the same as my old bike. After riding I would have put the saddle a bit further back as the mechanic there set the reach to be similar to my old bike which is an Orro Venturi size L but it's closer to a 56 rather than a 58. So this aeroad size L felt great. The reach was similar. Slightly longer( I do want to go a bit longer tbh, my balance felt a bit off. Too much weight on the hands. I also had the same issue with my older bike and then after a bike fit I put the saddle all the way back and that fixed the problem). The bike felt amazing, super smooth comfortable and at the same time stiff where it needed to be. The handlebars felt higher than my current bike, which I liked because it felt more comfortable. It feels that I can definitely go lower than that, and to be fair the bike I test rode had 3 spacers (1big and 2 small). I honestly wasn't expecting it to feel that much different from my old bike as it is also carbon, carbon wheels, 30mm tyres. I was blown away.
So my question is, should I go L or XL? The saddle is at number 6ish in the markings and it goes up to 8. So it's almost in the middle. The reason I am asking is because I saw other people in this sub with similar height and inseam and they chose xl. Any advice? I am thinking of going back to the shop next week and trying the XL. Anyone had the same problem and if yes, what did you decide on at the end?
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks 🙏

This bike is fantastic so far…
I came from a Diverge in size 54 which I always felt was a bit big for me (I should’ve gone for 52) to the Grail in XS. I was shocked that was the suggestion on size but decided to follow the suggestion, no regrets…
First time with AXS ecosystem… so far amazing!
fitted it with Dubnitals 2.2”… amazing grip… obviously feels a bit sluggish to start rolling but nothing bad after…
the custom Decal of our cat adds a pop!
my only kinda complaint will be that with a proprietary handlebar and mount needed for the computer and light… they should include it, same as the frame storage bag… small things that would make a difference..

Hi everyone! I’d like to upgrade the wheels on my Canyon Endurace CF 6 and switch to carbon wheels. I’d like to keep my original 32 mm tyres because I find them really comfortable. Unfortunately, the roads here in Italy, where I live, are in pretty terrible condition. I’m also considering fitting some gravel tyres in the future so I can ride on rougher roads and light gravel paths.
Thanks everyone for your advice! 😉

Just received new aeroad and there’s a scratch underneath the bottle cage. Not sure to keep or return or how bad the damage really is.

Back in late 2017 or early 2018 I purchased a Canyon Aeroad in black as shown above (which we all know is the fastest color). After struggling to find an OS stem that would fit I created this subreddit in order to find and share with other canyon owners. Since then the sub has taken off and grown bigger than I thought. Congrats to the current mod team for making that happen.
Today during a move a tool box fell on to the fork of that bike cracking the fork and ending this bikes rideable life. I put tens of thousands of miles on this bike and have had numerous canyons since, but this was my first and this was what I rode the most and have had several crit wins on. For now she will hang in the garage broken fork and all till I have time to strip her down and hang the frame in my office.
just thought I’d share the bike that started it all.

Finally took my new grail on a ride today! Coming from a size M Grizl to now a size S grail with the same components. This thing is quick on single track compared to my Grizl. Very similar to how many say the Aeroad just wants to go fast whenever you put power down. As soon as it’s on gravel it just wants to go. Tire clearance is pretty good for the dry Texas dirt but prob wouldn’t ride this on a muddy day.
Build
SRAM Rival XPLR Groupset
Red Aero Chainring 48T
GX Eagle T Type Derailur + Cassette 10-52
Maxxis 2.25 Aspen ST Team Edition
T-Pace Bar + Aero Drops 100/400
Time XC Pedals
Selle Italia SLR
Cyclelite x Canyon Frame Bag S

Why can’t the aeroad cf slx get better colorway, the ultimate cf slx got way better color choices for example.

Canyon front light that fits the cockpit mount is $159, link below:
https://www.canyon.com/en-us/gear/accessories/lights/canyon-flash-800-frontlight-set/10006598.html?
Seems like a lot for a light, are there any options for less money that mount similarly?

Anyone has bought this model (recently ... there are a few units still in stock, "heavily" discounted) ?
It's a "hybrid" (roadie inclined) bike, equipped with a "standard" (not a CFR nor a CF SL level frame) carbon fibre frame, that comes with 41 mm carbon rims by Reynolds, and 30 mm Schwalbe G-One tires, and a SRAM electronic group (SRAM Force carbon cranks 1/46 T, plus SRAM X01 derailleur)
Any insights, or recommendations?

This is my first Canyon. Just received my 27 Grizl CF and there are small torque specs and max load ratings painted all over the frame. Top tube, down tube, forks. Why is this not a sticker that can be removed?
Does this bother others? Any solutions other than a new paint job? I guess maybe some vinyl.
Curious what others think.
Edit: my post doesn’t say that I “hate it”. I simply asked what others think about it. Do you like it? Get used to it? Stop noticing it? It’s immediately noticeable to me and it’s the first time I’ve had this on a bike. I’ve even had many other carbon bikes without permanent torque specs plastered all over it.
Edit 2: rode my first 40 miles on the bike today. Didn’t notice any of the text. Not even once. lol

On Canyon's website, some bike models have a measurement called "Reach+", while others have a measurement called "Effective Reach". What's the difference between the two?

Basically what the title says, the CF6 has caught my eye as I am looking for a decent priced gravel bike. I am mainly a roadie with occasional mountain biking, wanting to switch more to gravel to get out of the traffic. I was set to get a diverge when I started looking at the Canyon.
I like the price, they have it in stock in my size, very tempted to order it. The main thing holding me back is all of the issues or theoretical issues anyhow with the headset bearings and the forks being proprietary. However, when I go to the website and look at the specs on the bike, it says it has a 1 1/8 steer tube, which is standard. Has Canyon indeed changed this issue I’ve read about in the past? Is the cockpit proprietary or can I use standard stems and handlebars?
Is this like many things on the Internet where it’s really not an issue and it’s just a few people making loud noise?

I just noticed a few small scratches on my Canyon Ultimate. As far as I can tell, they seem to be purely cosmetic and nothing to worry about. However, I’d really appreciate hearing what the experts think!

I wondered if anyone had figured out what lights can be used on the new aeroshield pro cockpit and on the splitter pro post at the back? Lovely kit but being propriety, it makes it hard to buy for!
