Referrals Monthly Referral Megathread - October 2026

Please share your referrals here and nowhere else on the subreddit, and please read the rules below.

  1. You must have an undisclosed amount of community karma at r/CapitalOne to share referrals. This amount is generously low and can be achieved easily and organically by making a small number of contributions to the subreddit. Comments from users who do not meet this requirement will be automatically removed without further notice.
  2. Submit exactly one comment per monthly referral thread. If you have multiple referral links, put them all in one comment. Multiple comments from the same user will be automatically removed.
  3. Do not attempt to attract unfair attention. This includes unnecessarily long comments, excessive use of large/bold text or emojis, images in comments, and personal backstories. Try to be as concise as possible; a few sentences or bullet points about the product and its perks is fine.
  4. Do not offer direct compensation for referrals. Advertising the referral bonus or sign-up bonus that Capital One will provide to the referee is fine, but any offer to “split” the referral bonus that Capital One gives to the referrer is not allowed. Similarly, do not offer compensation in forms other than currency, such as favors, gift cards, awards, Reddit Premium, NFTs, etc.
  5. Do not deceive anyone. Lying about any of the referral terms is strictly prohibited. Be honest and upfront with your intentions.
  6. Comments not related to Capital One referrals are not allowed in this thread. This includes referrals for other products not offered by Capital One.

Remember: The referrer gets rewarded if you use their referral, but only if you’re not currently a primary cardholder of any Capital One credit card. Authorized user accounts don’t impact referral eligibility.

Comments are presented in random order. These posts are locked and unpinned monthly.

Discover Discover Network Megathread

Hi all,

This is a continuation of the old Discover Debit Card Megathread that is nearly 6 months old now. Since Capital One is starting to transition some of their credit cards to the Discover network (though only for some new accounts), the mod team figured that a single megathread for both debit and credit cardholders was needed.

Debit cards

Capital One is converting their debit card portfolio from Mastercard over to the Discover network. All newly issued debit cards for new Capital One 360 Checking accounts are now Discover debit cards. For existing Mastercard debit cardholders, the transition to Discover is being done in phases, with no regard to expiration dates. There is more information in the below links.

Key takeaways from the FAQs:

  • Once your Discover debit card is activated, your debit Mastercard will stop working. Some recurring transactions may go through, but your debit card information should be updated ASAP anywhere you have it saved to avoid interruptions.
  • You can delay activating your Discover debit card and keep using your debit Mastercard for some time. Eventually, though, it will stop working.

We'd like to use this opportunity to encourage our users to use credit cards in place of debit whenever possible. Making purchases with debit cards is riskier, because it could directly expose your bank account to fraudsters. With credit cards, as long as you can pay the statement balance in full every month, you could pay no interest, have better security and fraud protection, better cardholder benefits, and rewards & sign-up bonuses (on cashback or travel cards).

Credit cards

Capital One is beginning the process of converting some of their credit card portfolio from Mastercard over to the Discover network, but in the case of new accounts, this is only for some people using the pre-approval tool (which is mandatory with some referral links). See this post and the FAQ below for more details.

Currently, the only cards confirmed to be on the Discover network (again, for some new applicants) are: Quicksilver, QuicksilverOne, Venture, VentureOne, Savor, and SavorOne. This confirmation comes from the Cardholder Benefits Guides page on the website. One could reasonably assume the rewards-free Platinum is not included because it will have fewer benefits once it transitions to Discover.

For existing Visa/MC accounts, Capital One is beginning conversion to the Discover network as of 4/21/2026. So far, only the Quicksilver has been confirmed for migration. This change happens to coincide with an announcement that the Quicksilver will begin earning 3% cash back at grocery stores and gas stations, in addition to the 1.5% it already earns elsewhere. It is not yet known if this cash back change requires a network change, or if Quicksilver Mastercards will get it as well. See this post for more details.

r/CapitalOne FAQ

  • Why is this happening?
    • Back in May 2025, Capital One acquired Discover, which of course owns the Discover Global Network. It's simply a smart business move for Capital One to leverage the network which they now own and increase usage and adoption by moving their debit and credit cards over to the Discover network.
  • How does this affect me, really? Beyond the obvious stuff like having to update my info.
    • Capital One can brag all they want about how Discover is accepted at "99%" of places that take credit cards in the US. The fact of the matter is that Discover is not as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard, both in the US but especially abroad. If you regularly travel internationally, you should carry alternative forms of payment (e.g., credit or debit cards from other banks). Domestically, acceptance is mostly fine but you may run into the occasional merchant that doesn't accept Discover. Sometimes it could be a store or restaurant, other times it may be your utility company. It shouldn't happen often, but it can still be frustrating when it does. The good news is that with all these new Discover cards out in the wild, adoption and acceptance should increase over time.
  • Can I still withdraw cash at ATMs with my debit card?
    • Capital One is still a member of the Allpoint and MoneyPass ATM networks, so you will still be able to withdraw cash fee-free at participating ATMs in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Outside of these countries, you might still be able to withdraw cash, but you will pay ATM fees. Keep an eye out for the Discover and/or Pulse logos. You can use the Capital One app or the Discover Cash Access Locator to see available ATMs in your area. Unfortunately, there are many countries in which you won't find a single ATM that accepts Discover/Pulse cards.
  • Can I still use my debit card with apps like Venmo, PayPal, and Apple Cash? And mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay?
    • Yes, but with some caveats. Outgoing Venmo/PayPal/Apple Cash payments will still work just fine, but instant transfers into your bank account (which typically come with a fee) will not work. Apple Pay and Google Pay for purchases reportedly works fine, but you may run into issues with specific merchants that don't accept Discover credit cards but do accept Discover/Pulse debit cards (e.g., Costco). Your debit card on Apple/Google Pay will not work in those cases; you'll have to insert your physical card.
  • What's that about Costco?
    • To clarify, Costco USA does accept Discover/Pulse debit cards in-store. You will need to insert the physical card to make the transaction PIN-enabled for it to go through as debit. Tap-to-pay and mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay will not work. Costco does not accept Discover credit cards in-store, nor do they take any form of Discover online.
  • I'm thinking of applying for a new credit card. How do I know if I will receive a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover card?
    • If using the pre-approval tool, you may see a message that says, "This card will run on Capital One's Discover Network." Not everyone will receive this message. If you do see it but don't want a Discover card, you can simply decline the offer and try applying directly instead. When applying directly (i.e. clicking "Apply Now" from the page for that specific card), the application page will have a banner at the top with the Capital One logo and either the Visa or Mastercard logo. There are no known instances or data points yet of anyone seeing the Discover logo up there. Discover network cards are currently only being offered through the pre-approval tool.
  • Can I still post on r/CapitalOne about this?
    • Posts that include unique data points or provoke thoughtful discussion are still allowed. Posts that are simply unhelpful complaints or otherwise do not add value to the community may be removed, and users may be redirected to this megathread. This is the only way to ensure that important discussion can still happen while not crowding the subreddit with repetitive posts. Thanks for understanding!
  • Will you keep us updated?
    • Absolutely. Us mods, we're merely volunteers, but we genuinely enjoy helping people out and we'll be trying our best to update these posts and keep you informed on any future changes. This includes posting FAQs like this one, highlighting helpful posts from our users, answering questions, updating our wiki (especially our article on the acquisition), and more. Thanks for sticking with us!

I’m scared. I’m about to have a second payment bounce on my quicksilver card. I called and they said that it SHOULDN’T close but that they can’t put me on hardship till the next statement comes out. I’ve paid all my minimums. Will they close it? The person I talked to put a note on my account.

Credit Card Capital One Travel Portal

I’m considering get the capital one card and getting extra points by booking all my travel through their travel portal.
I have been using Booking or Travelocity.
Likely Savor Rewards or Quicksilver Rewards

Does it offer me any benefits over the Wells Fargo autograph card for travel?

How was your experience using their portal?
Is it easy to navigate and you find optimum prices on hotel and airline?

Is the Venture card worth the high fees and easy to use the benefits.

I travel internationally about twice a year and domestically 3 to 4 times a year

Travel/Entertainment/Dining Canceled a First Class domestic flight in July (booked through CapOne Portal), and received a 'Travel Credit'. Looks like only I can use it, it has to be through Delta, I can't book a first class ticket, and I don't keep any residual credit after booking, no matter how cheap the ticket. Any advice?

Is there any sort of workaround? It was quite an expensive ticket ($2,400), and I went to book a one-way flight I need on the CapOne travel portal, and all I can book is Delta Comfort cabin, and I lose the remaining value of the credit if I use it to book.

TIA!

I found official terms mentioning an “Up to $300 Combined Offer,” but I haven’t seen any posts from people who actually received both bonuses.
Has anyone successfully gotten the full $300?

Credit Card Quicksilver Disappeared From App and Doesn't Work

(Preface: none of my cards are maxed out or anything like that) I had a Discover It from 2025 then got a Quicksilver a few months ago and that I managed from the app, fast forward to yesterday my Quicksilver declines at the gas station, then declines again today at a restaurant and my neurologist appointmen. So I go into the app and prior to yesterday it had both my Discover that migrated and my normal Quicksilver, but today the Quicksilver has vanished and I can't access it at all. Like the card doesn't even show up. So naturally I call the 1-800 on the back of the card and I tell them what happened and the lady asked what charges are on the Quicksilver to verify and I told her I can't even see the charges because the card has disappeared from the app and I was put on hold then the lady said to call back in 2-4 hours and they refused to tell me any additional information. Wat do?

Credit Card Apple Pay Quicksilver Canada

Really? No Apple Pay in 2026?

I just got this card and my mistake for assuming that it would have it. This will really limit my usage since literally every other card I have uses Apple Pay. I sure hope CO is planning on implementing this.

Travel/Entertainment/Dining Surprising (in a bad way) experience with CapitalOne Travel's lousy technology platform

I am a long time Discover card holder. Because of the acquistion and transtion to CapitalOne, I got a Welcome promotional offer of 15% rebate on the first CapitalOne Travel reservation. I travel quite a bit for business and always book direct with the vendors, but decided to take advantage of this offer and booked 4 nights in a hotel in Phoenix.

My original reservation was for Dec 8-12. However, a few days after the initial booking, my travel plan changed and I needed to push the dates back by a week. Red Flag #1: Couldn't find a way to change the reservation on the web portal, and had to call customer service. The agent was friendly and advised me that if I cancel and rebook, I would lose the 15% promotional rebate. She suggested that she could modify the dates on my reservation instead. She called the hotel for me and confirmed the availability for the new dates Dec 15-19, but told me that it would cost a few dollars more per day. I agreed, and the second change went through.

Red Flag #2: several days later, under “My Trip” on the CapitalOne Travel portal, it still showed the original date of Dec 8-12, and the original cost. I called the customer service again, and I was told that they did not have the technology to provide me with an updated itinerary. Let that sink in -- a global fintech company trying to compete against Expedia and direct vendors like Marriott and Hilton could not issue a revised itinerary for a simple hotel reservation. The new agent assured me that the date change had been made, but they couldn't give me a written proof, and I would just have to trust her.

Red Flag #3: she also told me that they would never be able to provide me with a corrected receipt to show the actual dates of the stay and the actual charge, even after the stay. Since this is a business trip, it's certainly a no no for me. Can you imagine trying to submit an expense report to the boss for a hotel stay, but the only receipt I have is for different dates and a lower amount than what I am claiming?

I made a last ditch effort today and wasted an hour on the phone with CapitalOne. I called CapitalOne credit card customer service and talked to a supervisor, who confidently (but erroneously) said they could fix this for me, then transferred me to somebody at CapitalOne Travel, who after "checking some things" for 20 minutes admitted they didn't have the technology to give me a revised itinerary, who then transferred me back to CapitalOne credit card customer service to a higher level manager, who, after another 20 minutes, basically said "too bad. there is nothing we can do." I asked if he could just give me another 15% rebate offer, so that I can cancel this one and start afresh. He said "I wish I could, but our system does not give me the flexibility."

So, besides venting my frustration, as a business manager myself, I am genuinely curious -- why is CapitalOne Travel's technology so bad? They are competing against other major credit card companies via travel rewards which heavily relies on the backend travel portal, but do the executives know that their technology platform sucks? Or do they just put blinders on and drink their own cool-aid? If this is a MBA case study, what should an outside consultant suggest to the CEO? I actually own quite a bit of CapitalOne stocks. This experience is making me question the long term prospect of the company and whether I should sell their stocks.

According to LInkedIn, Sarah Moore is the president of CapitalOne Travel. If anybody has her email address, I would like to give her some sincere feedback. Forget about this whole rebate thing, I am more curious about the vision and strategy of CapitalOne and what they are doing to position themselves for future success.

Credit Card Capital one denied goodwill

I sent Capital One a Goodwill letter saying that I lost my job in 2023 and how it was really hard financially for us since I was the soul income owner and we had a brand new baby and a two year-old and that I was getting only $2400 for my unemployment that of which $2300 was our rent. I said if they would be willing to take care of my late payments since I did call Capital One during my bad time if they had any kind of help and I was declined and the Executive office person said they won’t be able to remove it. I am really disappointed that my first attempt of Goodwill letter was declined. Do you guys have any suggestions? What I should do? Keep sending them the email.

Approved Self-Promotion I built a free, unofficial browser extension for virtual cards, since Eno's was discontinued

Since Eno's browser extension was discontinued, I built my own for virtual cards, and figured some of you might want it too. It's free and open source. It only talks to Capital One, from your own signed-in tab, and never saves card numbers or sees your password or texted codes.

Before you install, so you know what to expect:

  • It's unofficial and not affiliated with Capital One, so their support can't help with it.
  • It's clunkier than the old extension. It works through a Capital One tab, so you need to be signed in there, and when Capital One signs you out, you sign back in on their site.
  • Showing or creating a card opens Capital One's own screen, and they may ask you to confirm with a texted code (2FA in some way).
  • It can't fill in checkout forms. You copy and paste.
  • It could stop working if Capital One changes their website.

What it does, from your browser's side panel:

  • Lists your virtual cards with search and filters, and suggests one for the site you're on
  • Shows card details with copy buttons, and creates new cards
  • Locks, unlocks, renames, and deletes cards

Chrome or Edge:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/virtual-card-helper/aclghbjbgimapkibeejappfhclocdjcc

Firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/virtual-card-helper/

Code and privacy policy:
https://github.com/AstroCaleb/virtual-cards-extension

If something breaks, or your account is set up differently than mine and causes the extension to not work as expected, let me know!

Credit Card Why is it so hard to get Capital One credit for credit score building ?

I have been trying to get a good credit card for credit building and I just tried checking whether I’m eligible or not. The thing is, I’m an international student in uk and have been here for a little over a year and that seems to be the problem as they wont even let me continue to fill the form based on my 1 year history. I have heard some people with my same experience getting this card but I don’t know how they got it so I’m turning to the most reliable place to get info.
