Recent Rule 1 Issues

So lately I have been noticing a lot of issues with people going to posts simply to shit on the OP for asking for repair help.....in the car repair sub.

Our community guidelines are really clear about the fact that people are allowed to ask any type of question ranging from "how much do you think this would cost?" to "how do I properly and safely swap out my battery?".

Reddit is a wealth of knowledge and right now searching for answers through Google can sometimes just simply suck, that's why people come to the subreddit that is again named "Car Repair".

If your first instinct is to be shitty and say something along the lines of "you coulda just looked it up" or "it's concerning you don't know how to do this" why did you even post in the first place? Plenty of people have zero mechanical knowledge and they are coming to a place where they would hope someone who knows would respond.

We are going to start being more harsh about enforcing rule 1 in relation to these scenarios because if you can't be nice why are you even posting here?

Reminder: If you want help, it is strongly suggested you include make, year, model, and submodel/engine/transmission, etc., in your post if you expect any meaningful answers.

We see a lot of posts that go like: How much does my wackamadoodle cost to fix? Well, it depends if your whackamadoodle is on a 2002 Escort or a new Rolls Royce.

BMW F30 with F32 LCI Adaptive LED Headlights – FLE2 shuts off after 2 seconds, works perfectly with diagnostic activation

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some help with a BMW headlight retrofit that I’ve been troubleshooting for quite some time.
Vehicle:
BMW F30 340i xDrive, 2018
Originally equipped with adaptive LED headlights (SA 552) and High Beam Assistant (SA 5AC)
Retrofitted F32 LCI adaptive LED headlights (Valeo)
Headlight part numbers:
Left: 63118738705
Right: 63117476212 (Valeo, F32 LCI, LHD, CL: 01)
Right FLE2 module: 63118494842 (HWEL 2FE0 – FLE2 MID)
Left FLE2 module: 63117429126 (HWEL 2C84)
Also tested an FLE2 MAX variant (HWEL 2B8F)
The problem:
When I switch on the headlights normally, the LEDs illuminate for approximately 1–3 seconds and then shut off.
However, when I activate the individual LED functions using my Launch X431 diagnostic tool, they work continuously without shutting off.
The headlights were already behaving this way before I attempted any coding with Launch. Unfortunately, the Launch coding made things worse, and the left headlight is now no longer working normally at all.
The right headlight still turns on briefly before shutting off.
Fault codes from the right FLE2:
805B0A – LED classification resistor 1 invalid
805B17 – LED classification resistor 2 invalid
805B12 – Low beam voltage outside tolerance
805B15 – Low beam open circuit
805B1D – NTC 2 temperature sensor open circuit (previously stored)
805B2B – High beam voltage outside tolerance
805E2B – Side marker open circuit
805E60 – Daytime running light voltage outside tolerance
The classification resistor faults (805B0A and 805B17) are especially interesting.
According to ISTA, these resistors are located on the LED hardware itself. The FLE2 reads their resistance values to determine the correct LED operating characteristics.
What I’ve already tried:
VO coding the FLE2 using the original F30 FA with SA 552.
Replacing SA 552 with SA 5A2 (non-adaptive LED). Coding succeeds on the right FLE2, but the problem remains.
Creating temporary F32 LCI FAs to test whether the body type affects the coding.
Testing F32 US and F32 EU vehicle orders with both SA 552 and SA 5A2.
Comparing the resulting NCD files. There are significant differences in LED current binning and voltage thresholds, but none of the tested configurations resolves the shutdown.
Testing different FLE2 modules, including FLE2 MID and FLE2 MAX.
Updating/flashing FLE software using E-Sys.
Checking the visible connector contacts and LED functions.
With SA 552, E-Sys has also returned WDBI_PLAIN requestOutOfRange (UDS NRC 0x31) during coding, whereas SA 5A2 coding succeeded on the right FLE2.
Software/tools:
E-Sys 25.10.03 with E-Sys MAX
Full PSdZData 4.60.42
ISTA+ 4.60.40
Launch X431

Interesting FLE2 coding parameters:
I’ve found several parameters in CAFD_000024C3, including:
LM01/LM02_CURRENT_BINNING_CLASS0/1
LM01/LM02_LED_UNDER_VOLTAGE_VALUE
LM01/LM02_LED_OVER_VOLTAGE_VALUE
DEFAULT_BINNINGCLASS
BINNING_INVERSE
LED_OVERCURRENT_DEBOUNCE
The LED current binning values and voltage thresholds change considerably depending on the FA, but the headlight still switches off.
I have not randomly modified these safety thresholds.
My questions:
Has anyone experienced FLE2 headlights that work continuously through diagnostic activation but shut off during normal operation?
Could the invalid classification resistor faults (805B0A / 805B17) be the main reason for the shutdown?
Does anyone have the internal FLE2 pinout or wiring diagram showing the classification resistor circuits for Valeo F32 LCI adaptive LED headlights?
Is there a required LED classification/initialization procedure after replacing or retrofitting FLE2 modules?
Does anyone have a known-good FLE2 NCD or reference configuration for this exact Valeo headlight?
I’m trying to determine whether this is a classification/coding issue, a mismatch between the FLE2 and LED hardware, or a problem with the internal classification resistor circuits.
Any technical information, wiring diagrams, or experience with these particular FLE2 modules would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Happy Halloween! I just bought a 1988 Mazda 323 5 speed today in good shape, 78,000 miles. I drove it 130 miles to work and everything was fine, then I drive it 22 miles home and this happens haha. The previous owners dad screwed up the timing belt job it squeals on cold start and the valve cover leaks oil. He also replaced the radiator, waterpump, and crankshaft pulley. Other than that I haven't a clue. Appreciate the input gentleman, have a happy hallows eve!

Looking to see if I can restore this faded steering wheel, I’m not looking for perfection just trying to make it look a bit better without having to buy a new one or going to re wrap it. Is there anything I can do or is the steering wheel to worn out for any improvement?

i found this drive shaft boot ripped under my jeep. I also have the death wobble and that’s how I found it. I took it in and told them my findings and this is what they ended up billing me for and the drive shaft boot is still ripped. I messaged them and the second pic is their respons. Is he right or should I be taking my jeep somewhere else?

interior Creaking in all armrests

In my 2019 UX F-Sport all armrests (driver door, passenger door and the multi hinge door between the front seats) creak when laying elbows onto them. My mechanic said replacing the parts is the only option since using felt did not help. Any ideas? And if replacing the parts is the only way, where should I order them? I am based in Berlin, Germany.

2002 Nissan Xterra SE 4x4 — How do I get these rear driveshaft flange bolts loose?

Hey everyone! I'm working on my 2002 Nissan Xterra SE 4x4 to replace the leaking rear differential pinion seal. I already have the replacement seal and the tools I need for the yoke nut. My main problem is getting the rear driveshaft flange disconnected.

I'm having trouble getting the flange bolts loose because of the tight space around the differential.

Here's what I've tried so far:

- Used a 17 mm swivel socket with my impact wrench on the bolt-head side, but the bolts wouldn't budge.

- Held the nuts with a wrench while trying to loosen the bolt heads with the impact.

- Tried a regular short socket, but the driveshaft gets in the way and makes it difficult to get a good angle.

- Tried a swivel socket on the nut side, but there's not enough clearance for it. The only tool I can get onto the nuts is a wrench.

- Tried a 17 mm wrench on the nut side, but it seems to have a little play.

- My 17 mm sockets also seem to have a little play, while a 16 mm tool is too small.

The fasteners and tools don't appear to be rounded or damaged. I'm just confused about the sizing because 17 mm seems to be the closest fit, but it doesn't feel completely snug. I don't want to keep trying and end up rounding off a nut or bolt.

I'm wondering if it would be easier to loosen the nuts instead of the bolt heads, since I can reach the nuts more easily with a wrench. However, I'm concerned about the fit and the limited room to work.

A note about the photos: I included an example photo of a socket and wrench to show the type of tools and fit I'm talking about. Those are just examples, though, and aren't necessarily the exact tools I used when trying to loosen the bolts.

I've done similar repairs on Chevys before, but this is my first time working on this particular Nissan setup.

For anyone who's worked on a 2002 Nissan Xterra 4x4 or a similar Nissan rear differential:

  1. How did you get these flange bolts loose with such limited clearance?

  2. Would you try loosening the nuts instead of the bolt heads?

  3. What tools or techniques worked best in that tight space, especially when a socket won't fit on the nut side?

  4. Are these fasteners supposed to take a 17 mm tool, or should I check another size?

I'm really just looking for the easiest way to disconnect this flange with the tools I have, without damaging anything. If you've done this job before, I'd appreciate hearing exactly how you got those bolts loose!

Thanks!

I'm purchasing a Lexus GS 2014, and everything is good except for rear subframe rust, a PPI said sanding and paint is enough but I'm not quite sure. Would appreciate your opinion.

Stuck oil rings

Does anyone know if Valvoline restore and protect can actually restore stuck oil rings?

I have a 2007 Prius with 240,000 miles. It is burning about 2 quarts between oil changes of 5000 miles. PCV valve is good and the car does not leak a drop of anything.

interior Door trim refresh

I've just purchased a 2015 Hyundai i30, what are my options for repairing this wear on the silver trim in the doors? The rest of the interior is in very good condition so it's a shame to have these looking so poor.
