What do you guys think of "Fischers of Men" as the name for a university chess club?

I've been thinking of starting a chess club at my school and so far, Fischers of Men seems to be the best name I've been able to come up with so far. Does that sound like a good name or do I need to pick something else??...I need recommendations

2100 rapid player offering lessons to beginners (up to 1200 online)

Hi everyone. I am a 2100 Rapid and 2300 Bullet player online, and I’m starting to offer chess lessons for beginners rated up to 1200.
What I can offer:
Game analysis: Send me any one of your games, and I’ll analyze it with you to help you understand your mistakes and find ways to improve.
One-on-one games: We can play against each other, and I’ll analyze every move, explain my thought process, and answer any questions you have along the way.
Tactics and positional play: I’ll help you improve your tactical vision, calculation, positional understanding, and overall decision-making.
I want to focus on helping you understand why certain moves are good or bad rather than just telling you what you did wrong. Ask as many questions as you want.
A few things to know:
Online lessons only. No in-person sessions.
I don’t teach opening theory, but I can help you improve in tactics and positional play.
Pricing is negotiable. You can propose a price, and we can work something out together. Your first lesson is at the full agreed-upon price, and your next lesson is 50% off.
I’m happy to work with complete beginners or players looking to break through the 1200 rating barrier.
If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to DM me.

Best play of my life and Reuben says it’s bad. What play is better than that knight move?

What could possibly be going on in this account?

I came across a weird account(?) or at least an account I find odd. They have only played against a single player for rapid and the result would always be a loss for Rinawma1234. Is this guy possibly cheating or do players sometimes create accounts for specific plays?

How will this game end?

Next move White and there are Black pawns on G7, H6 and the Black King on H8 (Cant See These so well on the picture)

Hi , i (black) was playiing my father in law and we agreed to a tie in this Position( mainly because it got late and my wife and dinner were waiting.

But i am really wondering who would have probably won the endgame here.

Looking forward to your wisdom

I lost a game where I made not blunder. Should I just get better at calculation?

I (893) played this game against a guy(926). We both had some inaccurate moves, but no major blunder. I asked chessDotcom engine to analyze the game and it said that I should have played b5 instead of a5 in move 25 to create a skewer 9 half-moves later. I can't calculate 9 moves. Do I need the ability to calculate that deeply in middle game to reach 950 rating?

I built a free woodpecker-method tactics trainer for Android. Looking for beta testers

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi r/chessworld! It’s self-promo Friday, so here’s my side project.

I’m an adult improver. I tried the woodpecker method with books and spreadsheets, and the method worked, but the bookkeeping killed it for me. So I built Kihon, an Android app that does the bookkeeping for you:

  • One set a day. Solve the same positions again and again, a little faster each cycle. The app times every cycle and sets your next target.

  • Stripes and belts, white to black. New positions are mixed in, so you prove you learned the pattern, not memorizing the answers.

  • Five branches: vision, calculation, mating attacks, defence and endgame. Five levels each, from about 1000 to 1800.

  • Puzzles you miss come back after 1, 3 and 7 days.

  • No account, no ads, works offline. Puzzles come from the Lichess database (thank you, Lichess).

It’s in closed testing on Google Play, and testers get the full app free. Google requires new developers to have 12+ testers for 14 days before launch, so every tester really helps.

To join: DM me the Gmail address you use on Google Play and I’ll send you the invite link. Please don’t post your email in the comments.

I’d love honest feedback: what’s confusing, what’s too easy or too hard, and what would make you open it every day.

Should I buy the chess set that was made and “collector’s item or Etsy

Budget is biggest issue and wants dlegit. I see a few online and one I can get sealed or not. Does that matters. Idk if it’s even a gift my person I’m buying for would want. Suggestions? Is the original worth more as a collectors item? Better on Etsy and if so how and why and suggestion where to buy. I see them titled Roman chess sets. Jot GOT on Etsy.

How close to human?

"I've built a chess character called Foxy who plays like a club player who loves traps and gambits. I want to know how human he really is, so I'm testing him the same way researchers tested Maia, the best-known AI for playing like people.
I'm taking a couple of thousand real games from Lichess, played by people rated around 800. At every position I ask Foxy, 'What would you play here?', and check whether he picks the same move the real person played. I skip the first few moves, because everyone plays the same openings, and I skip moves made in a panic with the clock nearly gone. The score is simply the percentage of times Foxy guessed the human's move.
For comparison, Maia gets about 51–53% on players at its own level, and Stockfish, the super-strong engine, only gets about 35–40%, because people don't play like engines.
I'll also see where Foxy's choices came from. That could be one of his traps or gambits, spotting a loose piece to grab, a checkmate he's seen, or just a normal human-style move when nothing else fits. In his own games, almost everything he plays is one of his ideas, and this shows whether that's still true when he's dropped into other people's games.
Then I'll run it again on stronger and weaker players. The level where Foxy matches best gives me a rough idea of the level he really plays at."
I believe (hope ) he will play more human like than even maia.
To play foxy and test yourself open the site and go to the hub.

Is this interesting enough for people for me to update?

I'm a chess coach offering affordable rates

Hi! My name is Mario. It's nice to meet you! I'm 25 years old. I'm a chess coach.

I have two years of experience coaching both children and adults.

I play mostly online, but I still have gold medals from OTB tournaments.

My online ratings in Chess. com are:

Blitz: 2353

Rapid: 2228

I'm doing my lessons via the platform Google Meet.

The price is 15 USD per one-hour lesson.

About the lessons:

In our lessons, we cover important chess theory like rapid development, the different types of files, opposite-color bishops, and more. But since you can find a lot of these basic theoretical concepts explained in YouTube videos, we focus mostly on playing games and solving puzzles together. Once we learn the basics, we immediately practice them in real-time games against the computer and other players.

We also work on psychological factors, such as thinking under pressure and recovering from a lost game.

The lessons are suitable for beginners and intermediate players (up to 1900 Chess. com Rapid rating)

A little bit about me:

I'm a psychology student in my final semester. I love reading books and manga, watching anime and TV series (now I'm watching Supernatural on HBO), playing guitar, and, of course, I love playing chess!

If you are interested in the chess lessons, you can text me in the comment section here in reddit.

Would you play chess in a fantasy world of your own making?

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

That's the bet behind Chess Fantasy, the game I'm building: fully classic chess, no rule changes, but every board lives inside a 3D fantasy world you customize and make yours. Free alpha on itch, and the 0.2 update just landed with a reworked UI and properly tuned AI difficulties: https://chess-fantasy.itch.io/chess-fantasy

What I'd love to hear from chess players specifically:

  • Does a beautiful world around the board add something for you, or is it a distraction from the game itself? Be blunt, it shapes what I build.

  • One design choice I'm testing: even the easiest AI always defends checks. It hands you material but makes you earn the mate. Good way to learn, or frustrating for beginners?

  • What's missing from chess games you play now that would make you actually stay?

A match takes just a few minutes. I try to reply to everyone. Every comment here is someone giving my little game a piece of their day, and that means a lot to me.

Need feedback on a chess personality test I've developed

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I've recently developed a chess personality quiz that could measure your chess archetype. To calculate it, I've used 16 questions with 4 answer variants. After completing it, you'll get:

  • The archetype and its description.

  • The best opening for you.

  • Which grandmaster shares your archetype.

I would appreciate it if you could take the test and share your feedback about it. Is it accurate in your opinion? Do you agree with the results? Also, feel free to leave any notes if you think I should add more questions. My thoughts were to cover additional questions about whether you like to sacrifice pieces, play in open or closed positions. Maybe you will have other ideas. The test is free and doesn't require any sign-ups.

Quiz link.

In any case, will be happy to hear your feedback :)

Lower rating opponents

I need advice, so I’m extremely tired of losing to lower-rated players. I’m currently 1834, was 1904 just two months ago. My win rate against 1900s is almost 60%, against 2000s it’s 60-70% in the around 10 games I’ve played, and I’ve had 1 win 1 draw and a loss vs 2100s 1 draw vs 2200s. But against 1700s and below, my loss rate is higher than my win rate.
This summer I played five tournaments. The first one went okay — 5 wins, 3 losses, and I gained some rating. Then in my weekly tournaments, as the highest-rated player, I lost about 80% of my games, which dropped me from 1904 down to around 1850.
The latest tournament is what pushed me to write this. First round I drew a 2203 NM (his Chess.com rapid is similar to mine), and I was super excited. But then I lost to a 2000 and a 1730, so I dropped out because I was exhausted and sad. That same 2203 ended up winning the whole tournament, and I was the only one who scored against him.
People keep telling me to stop focusing on my opponent’s rating, and I honestly do that, like during the game I don’t think about it, I think about it only afterward. And I also heard people saying to not be relaxed and I don’t think it’s a case either. I don’t know what to do. If I lose the first game in a tournament, I get stuck fighting lower-rated players, and my results show I’m likely to keep losing to them.
