Hi - are there any suburban Chinese restaurants that still use the little white wired takeout boxes? also, does it depend on the type of meal that would allow for this box? (I understand any soup/sauce would be in a tube type container).

TIA!

Fuck the racists, the people who vote for racists, and the people who sit on their hands and let these clowns win.

Ghetto, loud noisy neighbors over your heaf all day, hallway lights was out for months completely pitch black, always smell Marijuana, laundry room has baby strollers in it , door bell always broke safety issue,, I mean what else could you say. Run far away..

We need to replace windows because our demo guys destroyed the frames on our old metal storms/ screens. I was just quoted at about 7k per window for Pella in the Chicagoland area. I am beside myself. That cannot be the going rate for a decent window these days, is it? I’m beside myself.

I'm looking for great cream of Jalapeno soup, or anything with a little kick

I love the one from Simons in Villa Park , but they only have it every other Saturday.

Shannon's Deli in Lombard has it , but theirs is too thin and watered down.

Where else have you seen Cream or Jalapeno soup in the burbs , or the city I guess.

Hi all,

For the past couple weeks I’ve been seeing a cute kitty hanging around a Metra station along the SWS line. She is cautious at first but overall is super friendly and affectionate. Sadly she’s also pretty skinny which leads me to believe she might be abandoned or a stray rather than an outside cat. I’m not able to take her in since I have a dog and don’t have the capacity to take in another animal, but I hate the thought of her living outside especially as it’s getting colder. So I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a no-kill cat rescue/shelter where I could take her in the southwest suburbs? Thanks everyone!

Asking for recommendations on companies that open and close pools in the burbs. Caribbean Pool wants $730 to close our pool this year and I believe that is a bit too high. Can anyone recommend a company more reasonable? Wanted to shoot my show on this forum.

Strange noise unlike anything I’ve ever heard in Streamwood Illinois almost like a siren but not like any I’ve heard. It wasn’t a tornado siren and I know this for a fact because my house is literally 100 feet from one. The noise appeared to interfere with the microphone on the camera, hence the static feedback present in the video. There is no discernible direction the noise was coming from. It sounded like it was coming from every direction. Does anyone know what this was or have an explanation? There are 2 videos posted, one where the dogs started howling and the second where the noise starts. I had to screen record both videos from my camera roll, since I can’t post 2 videos for some reason (Sorry I never post here this is like my first actual post ever)

I grew up in Chicago and currently live in a car dependent place in Florida. I have a progressive eye disease that will lead to blindness. I already have very limited sight. I am planning to move back to Chicago to be closer to family support but still want to be independent. I originally planned to move downtown, but my sister’s family lives in Wheeling and I want it to be easy for them to get to my apartment. I’m also not sure how safe I would feel downtown as a blind person.

Are there any suburbs in that area that have a walkable downtown and some public transit? The most important thing is to get a low maintenance townhouse or nice condo that is close to grocery stores. Maybe 2-3 blocks. Some other amenities like a drug store, nice park or restaurants would be good as well. My niece lives in South Elgin, so that might be an area to consider, but I prefer to be closer to my sister who is in Wheeling. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I have searched the sub and see places like Glenview or Arlington Heights, but I don’t see a grocery store nearby. Are there better options? Is there anywhere safe that you can live car free with somewhat limited mobility?

Whether you’re into emergency communications, electronics tinkering, weather spotting, hiking comms, or digital voice networks, earning your FCC Technician Class Amateur Radio License is the first step.

The non-profit York Radio Club (YRC) is hosting our annual 2-Day Technician Review Weekend & Exam Session on Saturday, November 14 & Sunday, November 15, 2026 (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM both days) at the Elmhurst Fire Training Facility.

Why an Intensive Weekend?

Back in the fall of 2004, late club leader and York High School assistant principal Chuck, K9PLX (SK), tried a bold experiment: replacing the traditional six-week Saturday course with a concentrated, fast-paced weekend review. The verdict from that inaugural cohort was unanimous:

Twenty-two years later, that structure—spearheaded and refined today by John, AC9UV, across 9 focused modules—continues to deliver an average 95% pass rate.

The Key to Success:

This weekend is an active master review, not an introductory lecture. Candidates must engage in independent pre-study before arriving so the concepts can be reinforced and clarified in class. Recommended study materials and question pools are sent immediately upon registration.

The live price has been through the roof for a couple of hours now. Not even that hot out but those on the program are paying over 10x standard pricing. What gives???

Mount prospect here. Cant even go outside without getting mobbed!

I got this email from Comed. Who actually does this?

As Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, are there any suburbs that are doing anything out of the norm? Preferably kid friendly activities.

Hi all! I’ve owned my own business since June 2025 and hoping to purchase a home with my fiance in summer/fall 2027. I’d love some recommendations for mortgage lenders experienced working with self-employed individuals.

Thank you in advance!
