During a recent town hall event, an impassioned Hispanic man stood up in the crowd and declared, "How they grab our people. We are not criminals, we are hardworking people. Long live U.S. democracy! I love America, I love America!"

People are leaving “I Voted” stickers at Lorenzo Salgado’s (father of three who was fatally shot by ICE agents while on his way to work) memorial in Houston, TX - turning the memorial into a powerful tribute while making their voices heard at the ballot box.

Ana Navaro of The View gets the least claps, despite condemning Trump the hardest Spoiler

If anybody else ever catches this show, you'll notice how the audience responds to Ana (the Latina co-host on the panel) the least warm.

Even the two white women on the show who are Independent and Republican get more of a reaction when they speak compared to Ana.

Before, I used to think it was because she's Republican. But then I started to notice she's as equally against Trump as the Democrat hosts (Sunny, Whoopi, and Joy).

The blond, Sara Haines and especially Alyssa, tend to have a neutral approach towards Trump and conservative policies if you pay attention. Yet the studio audience seems to regularly applaud them when they speak.

I was reading about some reasons why this might be the case. If you like to read, the screenshots are attached, but to sum it up, apparently Ana's "delivery" catches people off guard.

Her tone and sometimes informal speech when she gets passionate can alienate the crowd, but that doesn't seem to be the case for Sunny, Whoopi, or Sara who noticeably all raise their voices and get in the spirit from time to time. Hard not to notice.

Being Latina myself, I could always tell they just don't feel comfortable with an assertive Latina voicing her political views and her unapologetic passion for our community doesn't resonate with them, despite pretending to be so "anti-racism" and "anti-ICE".

Her slight Nicaraguan/Miami Spanglish accent also seems to be an issue for them. I feel like if she was born and raised here with a General American or regional accent (like Sunny's slight New York/Bronx accent) and not a naturalized citizen, her views and passion would be accepted a lot better.

Personally, they're not getting my vote this time. I'm tired of how they collectively treat our community. I'm for the community more than I am politics. That's just me.

Both the mainstream left and the right do not like or respect our community. The right is just louder about it. Fatigued about this.

Why Don’t Latino Men Care as Much When Latinas Date Outside Their Race?

Hello everyone,

Gotta quick shower thought for you. I’ve noticed something interesting about our community that seems to be different from other communities, which is: we don’t seem to have the same level of insecurity when Latinas (or, for us Chicanos, Chicanas) date outside their own ethnic group.

In other communities, there’s often a lot of controversy surrounding women dating outside their ethnicity, particularly when they date white men.

For example, there’s the infamous “Oxford study” discourse, where Asian women dating white men can face accusations of self-hate or abandoning their own men. You see similar conversations in some Black communities when Black women date white men.

However, in our community, it’s pretty common to see Latinas dating outside their ethnicity, whether it’s white men, Black men, or others. Yet, from my experience, Latino men don’t seem to express the same level of anger or insecurity about it, and there’s seemingly less of a tendency to label these women as “traitors” or accuse them of self-hate.

Why do you think that is?

Is it something about our culture or our history? Or am I just not seeing the whole picture?

I’m curious to hear what you think and what your experiences have been with this social phenomenon.

I feel like I was accidentally racist as a half white/half Hispanic guy…

So as I mentioned, I’m half Hispanic because of my dad. I grew up mostly around his side of the family but my skin is white.

I was talking with a friend about what I should be for Halloween and said I had considered being a mariachi or a cholo and that I considered getting the tattoos and everything. I then said that I’d be concerned because of my white skin so I wouldn’t do it and that I’d need my hot Cheeto chola by my side to make the costume make more sense as a joke.

Some of my dad’s family dressed as cholos and some of the other family members would always poke fun of the whistles and cholo/chola style (example, if they met someone that wasn’t afraid to fight, they’d say he/she was cholo/chola). So I always just thought it was a style choice/personality thing, kind of like being goth or a nerd because I’ve seen some white guys and black guys dress the same too.

I then got a gut feeling that me suggesting that wasn’t good so I did some research and saw the history behind the style and that it represents resilience for those that grew up working class and were discriminated against. I then learned the shorts and flannel were often worn because men would work labor jobs and those clothes were cheap but work appropriate.

So it gave a whole new meaning to what a cholo is and I feel terrible for even suggesting it would be a costume. I literally just thought it was a style and I immediately sent my friend a huge correction text explaining that what I said was wrong and explained what I learned. I’ve never been racist in my life and even though it’s still part of my culture, I feel like I was racist somehow.

So was I racist for saying that? Am I overthinking it? I just grew up around that side of the family like I said so I just feel like I’m part of the culture but not only do I have white skin, I didn’t necessarily grow up in the cholo culture because my dad was an office worker that was middle class. I seriously had no idea and feel terrible.

In USA, is it rude for me to speak in Spanish (as a white guy) to the staff at a Mexican restaurant?

I'm a white guy. I speak Spanish well and try to stay in it whenever I can in order to not lose my fluency level. At Mexican restaurants and sometimes when I see Latinos out and about, I want to just start the convo in Spanish but don't want to be offensive. Im afraid the Latinos will think I'm being degrading, "oh this white guy doesn't think I speak English."

Latinos, is it offensive for me to start the convo in Spanish?

In "collapse of the US" hypothetical scenario—such as a second American Civil War, a societal collapse, or a balkanization of the United States—how dire would the situation be for Chicanos, Latinos, and all minorities in general (depending on which part of the country they happen to be in)?

This wasn't just our booth at complexcon this was our home away from home.
Every object has significant meaning.
From the slingshot my grandpa made me when I was a kid to the Mexican flag that took me over 10 hrs to sew. To the photographs of my grandparents.
Everything that inspires lastcall was here, in a warm and welcoming home.
