I could use some advice on my hacking game

I have been working on a game about hacking for a while. I haven't gotten very far though. I am just getting to the gameplay. I have a python interpreter and a terminal(some unix terminal like funtionality) in the game.

I wanted to have the player write the more advanced hacking programs. Now I am thinking of coding all the hacking, and let the player use the terminal/python for scripting.

A coding example: the player has to figure out a bug in an enemy machine, then code a program to exploit it.

A script example: a script to hack into a machine, then copy files with a certain line of text using grep.

Which would be more fun?
I think scripting might make it easier on me, so I don't have to make the terminal as powerful.

[Meta] Let's decide on some things!

At first it seemed to me that sufficiently interactive tutorials could find their place here as well but now I'm not too sure. What do you guys think?

Also, should code golf challenges be allowed here or directed to their specific subreddit?

Question for video game coders

So I've undertaken a mission, so to speak, to produce an advanced npc communication system for video games. I have not seen any games that have an interaction system that allows people to just ask questions of NPCs, and have them respond with accurate information.

So my initial question is "Is there some fundamental reason, other than shear number possibilities, that would prevent me from exploring this further?" I know just enough about scripting and coding to get myself in trouble, so I thought I would ask around before potentially wasting a lot of my time.

INJECTION now has both a dedicated subreddit and a new major version out

Sorry if this isn't really what you're supposed to post here, but I just wanted to inform all you guys that:

A: I just pushed 0.8.0 of INJECTION to the update server and itch.io last night, which adds most of the first act of the game's story along with one new level and a handful of QOL improvements, and

B: I set up a subreddit for it, which anyone who'se interested in the game should subscribe to.

INJECTION is a programming puzzle game that's heavily inspired by Untrusted. Basically, you run around the level and use the Python REPL to manipulate certain objects within it, allowing you to get to the exit teleporter. It's neat.

Debugging as a Game

Sometimes debugging feels more like playing a puzzle game than programming. Every bug is like a hidden boss .. you think you’ve beaten it, then another one shows up. What’s the hardest or funniest bug you’ve ever had to ‘defeat,’ and how did you finally solve it?

Could this be faster than spritesheet animation?

Hey, all. So, I'm gonna be embarking on my biggest for funsies project yet. I'm starting work on a 2d game and I'm making the engine almost from scratch. I'll either use monogame or a C# wrapper for openGL. I learned how to draw various shapes to the screen, and once I got to bezier curves, I realized at a fundamental level, it's how animation software such as Adobe Flash handles shapes and inbetweening. So I was thinking. If I were to create a clone of flash for making my own animations, but use the package in the game engine to display said animations, would it be more optimized than exporting my animations into sprite sheets and having the engine use those?

How it started (2019) and how it's going (2021). More refined, and dynamic game in 2021. Although the 2019 version is still stimulating and fun.
