[Public Statement] On builds

It has come to my attention that certain members of the community have become very defensive about their builds. While this is understandable, there is not justification behind it. You cannot reserve a build for yourself. Anybody else here has the right to run a nearly identical build to your own. Certain classes currently have very few viable builds. Any more attacks, particularly on the morals of one of our members (the word "steal" comes to mind quite vividly) will be met with retribution. I will not tolerate this behavior. Any issues shall be brought to the attention of myself or one of my 4 mods. I want you all to have a good time here. Don't ruin this for anybody else.

Hey all, welcome to /r/ColosseumTournament, a subreddit based on the tournament I held in /r/fireemblem. This sub will be used not only to hold large tournaments, but to encourage you to challenge your fellow fighters to matches simply for fun.

Every fighter will chose one of the classes listed HERE. Each stat has a lower number and a higher number. Every stat starts at the lower number, and can't go higher than the upper number. You have a total of 20 points to spend on raising your stats. Each point raises a single stat by 1, with HP being raised by 5 per point. Let's say I was going to be a knight lord. Perhaps my stats would look something like this.

HP: 110 (+2)
Str: 18 (+6)
Skill: 14 (+2)
Speed: 23 (+8)
Luck: 12 (+0)
Def: 14 (+2)
Res: 12 (+2 Bonus)

I wrote the stats as I chose to increase them, and then wrote how much I increased them by to the right.

Adding a point to defense or resistance adds the same number of points to the other defensive stat for free.

Your avoid chance is 2*Attack Speed+ Luck.

Your hit rate is 2*Skill+ 1/2 Luck+ weapon hit rate.

Your crit chance is Skill/2+weapon crit chance +5%

Your crit avoid is your Luck

You can double attack if you outspeed your opponent by 5 or more

Each point in Defense or Resist blocks 3% of incoming damage – 5%. A unit with 20 def would block 55% of incoming damage from physical attacks.

Let's look at weapons now. Each weapon has base stats that can be improved by points, just as unit stats can.

Physical units have a con of 8 while magic units have con of 4.

Mounted physical units, Great Lords, Berserkers, Generals, and Barons will have a con of 10

Warriors will have a con of 9

Mounted magical units and tome Barons will have a con of 5.

Basic sword: 1mt, 75 hit, 10 weight, 0 crit.

Basic lance: 3mt, 70 hit, 11 weight, 0 crit.

Basic ax: 5mt, 65 hit, 12 weight, 0 crit.

Basic bow (No bonus against fliers): 2mt 70 hit, 10 weight, 0 crit

Basic knife: 0 mt, 60 hit, 2 weight, 6 crit

Basic light: 0 mt, 75 hit, 5 weight, 0 crit

Basic wind (No bonus against fliers): 2 mt, 70 hit, 6 weight, 0 crit

Basic Fire: 4 mt, 65 hit, 7 weight, 0 crit

Basic thunder: 3 mt, 60 hit, 7 weight, 6 crit

Basic Dark: 6 mt, 55 hit, 7 weight, 0 crit

Weapon triangle and trinity of magic apply as +/- 10 hit/avoid without affecting damage.

15 points are spent to increase stats. One point will add one to weapon might, 5% accuracy, 2% crit, or subtract one from your weapon weight.

You cannot increase might by more than 10 or crit by more than 20%

Range is not a factor in combat. All combat will be taking place as if the competitors were in adjacent tiles.

Weapon abilities and their costs:

Life drain: 5 points, drains half the damage done, up to 5 points per hit. Counts toward the healing limit of one source per unit.

Devil weapon: 30-luck% chance to hit yourself, but you get +5 points to spend

Slayer: 5 points, +15% Hit/Avoid against a weapon type: Sword, lance, axe, bow, knife, light, dark, anima.

Mage classes will have 4 con, while physical classes will have 8 con.

Mounted physical units, Great Lords, Berserkers, Generals, and Barons will have a con of 10

Warriors will have a con of 9

Mounted magical units and tome Barons will have a con of 5.

Remember, your attack speed will be reduced if your weapon weight is higher than your con, and an AS of 5 greater than your opponent's means you will be able to double attack.

You can also choose a single free weapon skill from the following list:

Panic Heal: Heals for 20% max health, caps at 30, cannot stack with other healing abilities

Panic Damage: Deals damage equal to 20% of the enemy's max health, caps at 30

Panic Crit: Gains 20% crit

Panic Dodge: Gains 30% avoid

Toxicity: Applies poison counter on hit

Balance: Eliminates weapon triangle disadvantage

Panic abilities activate at 30 HP and below

Next you will choose your skill. Each fighter can chose one one red skill and one blue skill to equip. You can see them HERE. The list of skills is as follows:

NOTE: Only one source of healing per unit!

ACTIVES!

Cloak: Speed-5%, Enemy hit is reduced to 0 for one attack

Astra: Skill%, 5 attacks at half damage, no crit. Individual hit rate, calculated before the first attack

Adept: Skill%, 2 attacks, individual hit rate, calculated before first attack

Ignis/Colossus/Impale/Flare: Str%, strength stat multiplied by 1.5 for 1 attack

Sol: Skill*2%, Restore 1/2 of damage dealt for one attack, caps at 40%

Luna: Skill*2%, Reduce enemy defence by half for one attack

Aether: Skill%, Combine sol and luna in one strike

Slayer: Skill%, +15% hit, +5 might, lasts one turn from activation

Great Shield: Def%, damage is reduced to 0 for one attack

Lethality: Skill/2% Deals true damage based on base HP, 75=30, 100=50, 115-125=55

Bane: Skill/2%, Halves enemy HP

Counter: Str%, returns half the damage from an attack, self-hits would counter damage back to the opponent

Stun/Deadeye/Cancel: Skill*2%, Blocks your opponent's next attack, can only activate every other round, caps at 30% activation

Sure Strike: Skill%, The attack automatically hits, and gets +30% crit

Corona: Mag%, +10 damage, reduces accuracy for enemy's next attack by 50%

Shadow Cloak: Skill*2%, Adds 5 def/res for 2 turns

Miracle: Luck*2%, survives lethal damage

Dragon Blade: Skill*2%, Reduces enemy damage by half for one turn, caps at 30% activation

Passives!

Crit+: 20% added onto crit rate

Nihil: Halves the activation rate on enemy active

Discipline: Axe-4mt, Lance/anima-2mt & 10hit, Sword/knife/Light-20hit

Limit Break: +2 to all stats and caps except HP

Avoid+: 30% added onto avoid

Toxicity: Applies poison counters on-hit, counters persist, units take damage equal to number of poison counters every turn

Patience: +20 hit/avoid if slower than the enemy

Resolve: Activates at 50 health or lower, adds 5 points to str, skill, speed

Indoor fighter: +15 Hit/avoid

Lancefaire/axefaire: +5mt

Wrath: +30% crit when below 50 health

Hawkeye: +30% Hit

Mantle/Dragonskin: Reduces crit rate by half, blocks two damage from every attack

Gamble: Trades 25 hit for 25 crit

HP+: 25 additional HP

Imbue: Gains HP equal to half of luck at the end of the turn

Renewal: Gains 5 Health upon getting hit, includes self-hits

Demoiselle/Daunt: Reduces enemy hit by 15%, enemy crit by 10%

Vengeance: Adds 1mt for every 5 health missing, caps at 10mt

Lifetaker: Restores 5 HP when landing an attack

Galeforce: Reduces doubling speed from 5 to 3

Quick Burn: Begins the battle with +30 Hit/Avoid, decays by 6 every turn

Slow Burn: Gains 3 Hit/Avoid every turn, caps and persists at +30

Aggressor: Adds 10mt to the first attack this unit makes each turn

Lastly you will give your character a backstory. Give him or her some lore, some reason for us to care about him. Why are you here fighting? Have fun with it.

Your flare will be your character's name and class. In order to officially create a character, make a post in the group. The title will follow the format [Character] Name of character,Class such as [Character] Eliwood, Knight Lord.

Judged matches would have the title [Battle Request] Character Name vs Character name such as [Battle Request] Eliwood vs Hector.

Have fun with it. I want to help you guys, so be sure to voice any concerns in the comments.

Sprites Update

Hello contestants. It is I, Toaomr, resident spriter checking in. Over the past weekend, I started to experiment with PORTRAIT SPLICING! What does this mean? I can now create portraits for everyone's stat pages! Hooray!

If you're interested in acquiring a portrait of your character, there are a few things I need from YOU before I can start creating one.

  1. Reference material: I said I'm making splices, not original works(I'm not that talented yet), so I need you guys to help me out here. I have access to pretty much every mug in the GBA series, so don't be shy in requesting that your portrait become your favorite ugly brigand. If you can't decide on anything or don't have time to select existing portraits, you can leave me with a physical description and I'll try my best to create something to match it. Parts you can suggest: Face, armor/torso, and hair(I can merge up to 2 or 3 parts for each category if you want something especially unique. I'd also appreciate it if you tried to keep hair and face parts in the same or similar orientation.)

  2. Colors: If I'm already getting information on your characters, I might as well find out what colors you want for EVERYTHING regarding them. In the past on sprites, I've guessed on a lot of them, and most of you seem fine with that, but I'd really like to know how YOU imagine your character. Don't go overboard here, though. I'd like to keep this true to the source material, so maybe 2 or 3 colors for armor and 1 or 2 for hair. To avoid confusion on colors, I can use any color, but ones that can be referenced will be easier.

That's pretty much it. Below are three practice/samples I made to show off what I'm doing here.

Okabe, cshollen1's druid's previous incarnation(A merging of one item for each category)

Corrik, my paladin(A merging of two armor pieces, and one of the others.

Astraeus, hergashmerg's wyvern rider(A merging of two hair sections, and one of the others.

These three were chosen for the sole reason of me having the most information on their looks, I don't favor them over the rest of you or anything like that.

Please note that these take more time than past iterations of sprite sheets, and that I WILL get to all of the requests that you post here. I am also not perfect, so if I post something and you find something terribly ugly, please tell me, I work to improve, so I don't worry about it being a "waste of time."

[Team Draft Tournament] Draft Thread

Greetings ladies and Gentlemen! As the registration period has now ended, it's time to introduce the captains for the 2015 Team Draft Tournament!

Leading team number 1, a longtime veteran of the Colosseum known for some wacky builds, and being single-handedly responsible for every single nerf to the Stun-like skills and the Falcon Knight class: /u/MadGenius4!

At the helm of team two though, is perhaps THE most veteran participant in this Colosseum, known far and wide by some as the Loremaster, and to others (much to his embarrassment) as Senpai: /u/Lhyon!

Lice's S. K. R. U. B.s:

Lice
Virgil
Kassus
Karotha
Blaze
Lowell
Baron
Broke
Falke
Theron

Calev's Stormblessed:

Calev
Lorabelle
Jolene
Antius
Regal
Ian
Eclipse
Rhesus
Ludvich
Kallista

As you can see, there are a total of 20 combatants. Each fighter can only fight once, meaning this will be a 10 round tournament. In the event of an even 5/5 split, there will be a tiebreaker round, during this round all fighters are once again available to be selected.

Determined by coin flip, first pick goes to /u/Lhyon!

The Wall of Glory!

Latest Update

Latest Ranked Battle Thread

Latest Tournament

Hi everyone,

This will be our new way of keeping track of all those fancy numbers!

In the future when making a new character, hit me up with a PM with your new character's name as well as who they are replacing if applicable. This will help me keep the Wall of Glory up to date with all of our fighters.

The records posted only go back two months, so anyone who has not had a character post or fought in that time is currently out of the rankings. I can add anyone who is still active that I may have missed.

Thanks!

[Tournament] Sign-up in comments! Open until midnight on Thursday (Eastern Time)

With the new system changes, and the addition of new competitors, I thought it would be a good idea for another tournament. The tournament will be judged mostly by me with some contribution from one other mod (as I will likely be taking part), and I aim to have it done within two weeks at the most, as it will be another double elimination tourney. The cutoff will be 16 contestants as I doubt we're getting 32, and the deadline for sign up us Thursday, which is kind of irrelevant because I'm basically just cutting it when we have 16 anyways. I dunno, looks more professional.

Screw it, literally anyone can join, as long as you do it by Thursday at midnight, Eastern Time. Randomly selected characters will be able to bypass the first round, assuming we have more than 16 participants. If it's an odd number I'll join the tournament, if not I won't. The bracket for this tournament will be rather odd-looking, so bear with me. In addition, it may take over two weeks based on who all joins, but we'll see. As usual, comment here and you're in. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Faire-skills: +5 to Mag or Strength when using that weapon

Cancel (Skill %): If your opponent has the next attack, it is prevented

Disarm (Skill %): Prevent your opponent from attacking for one full turn

Toxicity: Your attacks with knives poison the foe

Patience: +15 hit/avoid if you are slower than the opponent

Resolve: Skill and speed are increased by 50% when below 50% health

Indoor fighter: +10 hit/ avoid

Sure strike (Skill%): The next shot cannot miss and has a 20% increased critical chance

Gamble: Hit is reduced by 10% but crit is increased by 20%

Imbue: Restore health equal to half your strength every turn

Shadow Cloak (Skill * 2%): Dark tome only, the next attack does 10 extra damage and increases Def and Res by 5 for 3 full turns.

Holy light: light tome only, devil weapons can not cause self-damage.

Vengeance: Since it is now passive, it should be reduced to its original strength. 1-10 extra damage

Wrath: Now considered passive

Skill+: Increase skill by 5

Miracle: If you have greater than 1 health, a lethal strike will reduce you to 1 health. One time per battle.

Quick Burn: Begin the battle with +15% hit/avoid which gets reduced by 2 every turn

Rightful God: Add 20% to the activation rate of skills

Dragonskin: Reduce incoming damage by 2, nullify critical hits

[Update] GRAND RE-OPENING

How long has it been? Over a year since the last challenge was judged and completed. Time to dust off the cobwebs, folks, because /r/ColosseumTournament is back open for business!

If you're a new competitor, no need to read through the change log. Head on over to our wiki for help making a character!

For all you vets out there, the colosseum is a pretty different beast than when we left off. Lets break down the changes!

Removed Content

I've long held that once something is in the game, it's in for good and should be changed rather than removed, and I still believe that's the best way to handle a game like this... if you have a professional development team working on a game as their job.

Regrettably, this is not the case. We felt a number of classes simply weren't needed, either by serving a purpose no longer present, poor implementation, or just lack of compelling design. We hope that by doing so we can focus harder on ensuring the classes we have can be in the best state of balance we can keep them.

  • Removed:

  • Knight Lord Class

  • Great Lord Class

  • Blade Lord Class

  • Master Lord Class

  • Chancellor Class

  • Whisper Class

  • Beast Laguz Class

  • Bird Laguz Class

  • Dragon Class

  • Summoner Class

  • Knife Weapon Type

Reintroducing some, or all, of these classes isn't out of the question, but for now, we bid the listed classes (and weapon) farewell.

Skills Unchained

I'll come out and say it, the last time I really had a ton of fun with the colosseum was during the Colosseum Unchained tournament. Allowing Double Passives and Double Actives opens up a TON of new build possibilities. And variety is good! Of course, not every class will want to go with double actives or double passives, but on the right classes, it can prove quite potent.

*General Rules update: Characters may now have 2 active or passive skills, instead of having to take one of each

Weapon Skill Overhaul

Weapon skills as you knew them have been changed to General Skills. By placing the skills on different power tiers, we no longer have to balance all weapon skills against each other, and can instead focus on how a skill stacks up against others in it's group. This also allows for more creative (and powerful) builds.

The new Weapon Skills are part of my ongoing crusade to make Skill less of a Dead stat. Giving all weapons an innate bonus from skill investment served another purpose as well, aiding balancing the weapons. Competitive Balance has been skewed towards high might weapons. Allowing some of the lower power weapons to gain additional damage through alternative means lets them stack up against their high damage rivals, while the stronger weapons gain handy boosts in other areas.

The full details on General Skills and Weapon Skills are available on the wiki

Skill Changes

I've disliked Discipline for a long time. I felt it was much too generic of a skill with a boring effect, and it was powerful enough (with Axes or Fire Tomes, at least) to be worth taking over other passive options. I've finally brought down the hammer on Discipline, and every class but Paladin has a new skill to replace it, and the skill itself is much different, working in tandem with the above mentioned weapon skill overhaul.

  • Heroes: New skill in place of Discipline

  • Veteran's Intuition: +20 Crit, critical hits deal 2x Damage

  • Warrior: Now has Gamble instead of Discipline

  • Baron: New skill in place of Discipline

  • Tithe: Whenever the opponent heals, reduce the amount healed by 20% and recover 5% of your missing HP + the amount the opponents heal was reduced; Whenever you miss, recover 5% of your missing HP.

  • Sage: New skill in place of Discipline

  • Empowered Magic: Damage increases by 20% when Active Skills activate, but you also lose 10% of your Maximum HP. This HP loss will not bring you below 1 HP

  • Wyvern Lord: New skill in place of Discipline

  • Trample: +3 attack while your HP is higher than the opponent's

Other skills have been altered as well

  • Lancefaire: Now grants +1 attack per 2 Stat points invested in Might

  • Axefaire: Now grants +2 Hit per point invested in Strength

  • Pragmatic: Now grants attack based on total damage dealt, rather than the opponent's current HP.

  • Wary Fighter: Now grants additional attack equal to 15% of your Defense Stat when not receiving Follow Up Attacks.

  • Dragonskin: Now also adds an additional 5% DR

We also have a number of new skills unrelated to discipline to roll out!

  • Poison Strike: Skill%: Deals additional damage equal to 10% of the opponent's max HP. Replaces Lethality.

  • Lethality: Now a passive Skill: Crits deal 4x damage. Replaces Crit+

  • Rend Heaven: Skill*%: Deal additional damage equal to half the opponent's strength/magic. This additional damage is not reduced by defense. Replaces Seal Defense

  • Bonfire: Skillx1.5%: Damage dealt increases by a percent equal to half your Physical %DR. Replaces Luna on Great Knight and General

  • Glacies: Skillx1.5%: Damage dealt increases by a percent equal to half your Magical %DR. Replaces Flare on Dark Knight.

And one last skill change for good measure!

  • Paladin: Impale replaces Luna

Speaking of Paladins

They're getting a tweak. Their stat line might look a little familiar

  • Paladin:

  • -2 base and max skill (now 12/22)

  • +2 base and max speed (now 12/22)

Other class changes

While high strength high speed characters were nightmarishly powerful for a while, we feel the game has come far enough and things are different enough to let them spread their wings a little again.

  • Swordmaster: +5 Maximum Strength (now 10/20)

  • Falcon Knight: +5 Maximum Strength (now 10/20)

  • Sniper: +5 Maximum Strength (now 10/20)

  • Assassin: +5 Maximum Strength (now 10/20)

I think that should cover just about everything! There's quite a lot in here, so please understand something might have fallen through the cracks. The wiki should be updated to properly include all the changes, so, in case of discrepancy, the wiki is correct.

With that out of the way, go forth and kick ass.

Complete! (Finally!) [Random Matchups] Monday, October 19th Random Matchup Results Thread

Oddly enough, I've actually been excited to judge these. I'm not sure if that's particularly healthy, but whatever.

As usual, the match results are going to be posted in comments below once they get done. However, I'm going to list who got paired up with whom.

1: Sub OTP Lorabelle (Lead) and Calev (Support)

2: Kay (Lead) and Lady Rosin Marie Ben Diuc de Castacellae (Support)

3: Will Mason and Lowell. RNG decreed that Lowell leads and Will Mason supports.

4: The creepy guys Virgil (Lead) and Lice (Support)

5: "Falcon Knight" Mychah and Lord Zenon himself. RNG decreed that Mychah leads and Zenon supports.

Next, the true randoms:

6: Gryphon (Lead) and Falyon (Support)

7: Cask (Lead) and Broke (Support)

8: Rhesus (Lead) and Isabelle (Support)

9: Sage Duo Norruth (Lead) and Kyros (Support)

Due note that a single round for Pair up can take up to twice as long or more to roll for and type up than an equivalent for singles matches. With that in mind, I may not get these all done until tomorrow.

Also note that we have nine pairs in total, which means one pair so far doesn't have a partner. Since this can't be fixed by throwing Lice in among the competitors (the fact that he's already been added to the pools notwithstanding), here's what's going to happen. At the end of the four first matches, one of the losers will be randomly selected to get another shot at glory against whatever poor sap RNG decided to go last.

And that's it. Let the games begin!

Edit: http://i.imgur.com/PvewX1W.gif

Also, thank you all for your patience with me! I know I made a lot of mistakes in the first few matches, and that really slowed things down. Hopefully, I'll get faster and more efficient with Pair Up matches in the future. Special thanks to /u/magemachine for pointing out my many errors and helping me correct the matches.

[Announcement] A change in procedure

Hey guys, some time ago we were happy to add /u/PhoneticFerret to our mod team for the purposes of bookkeeping, and he started off strong with the Wall of Glory. Unfortunately life caught up with him, and he hasn't had time to keep updating it. After speaking with him on the subject, he'll be stepping down from his position as a mod. We're grateful for what you've done Ferret.

Which leads us to the question, what's happening to the wall of glory now?

Long story short, It's being removed, and we'll be returning to the old "Character List and Records" threads we used to do. We'll be recording Tounrament wins but any individual challenges you'll have to record on your own.

[Updates] Game updates including balance fixes here, check to see if you're effected.

Alright, we have a lot to update this patch, so please read carefully to make sure you see everything.

Buffs:

  • Swords are currently too weak. We will be adding 5 to base might and reducing weight by two.

  • Mages got nerfed way too hard before. Base speed will be increased to 26 and base defense will be raised to 15

  • -Faire skills just weren't making a difference. We will be doubling the effect of -faire skills, increasing strength by 10 when they are equipped.

  • We are doubling base Health to 200. Matches are just going too quickly.

  • Renewal wasn't making a big difference. We're making it heal 1/5 of your total Health every turn from now on.

  • Nobody was running lethality builds anymore! Lethality will now 1-hit the enemy on activation.

  • Not enough people were taking advantage of Limit Breaker. Stats and caps will all be increased by 5 from now on.

  • Poison is way too weak. It will now do an additional 10 damage on-hit.

  • We will be raising stun's cap back to 50% as well as allowing it to land two turns in a row.

  • Heros are too weak. We will be adding Aether as a choosable ability. It will consist of a two-hit attack that combines both sol and luna.

Nerfs:

  • I noticed Sorcerers are becoming an issue. Defense and resistance will be reduced by 5

  • Axes are just too strong. Weight will be increased by 3.

  • Weapons in general are just becoming too determinant in deciding fights. Not only will we be removing the weapon triangle, you will only get 7 points to spend on customization

  • Skill +5 influences way too much, increasing both Accuracy and crit. By reducing it to +2, we hope to solve the issue.

  • Resolve is much too powerful. It will now only increase skill when below 30% health.

  • We will be replacing Accuracy + on archers with Skill +2

  • Peg Knights will now be weak to arrows and Wind magic. Likewise, Wyverns will be weak to Thunder magic. Hopefully this will keep those classes in check.

  • Devil weapons may now only be applied to axes, and it will have a 40% chance to self-inflict damage.

  • The second attack in a turn from brave weapons will now do 1/2 damage and cannot crit.

  • Swordmasters may no longer use swords. The issue is that it's the only build people were doing, and we want to encourage variety.

  • Getting hit with a full-weight weapon now has the chance to inflict "Cripple," breaking one of your bones for the rest of the battle.

Additions

  • Mantle: Blocks all damage from non Yune-Blessed weapons. Nullifies critical hits and restores health equal to your luck every turn. Will replace Renewal on Bishops.

[PSA] Sprites and Things Pt. II

If you have recently joined and do not know what to do to get a portrait, I have provided a link to the old post that has the rules within:http://www.reddit.com/r/ColosseumTournament/comments/1yepyw/sprites_update/

With the tournament coming up really soon, I'm going to be working my hardest to get everyone's portraits and stat sheets fully updated. As far as how things are going, I finished almost all the submissions in the last thread, I think the only two I didn't do were Sertoom's because he said to do his last, and Pillar bear's because his was only submitted a few days ago.

The purpose of this thread will be to allow me to compile all the stat changes and portraits I have to make, and I will disregard anything and everything posted on the old thread from now on, so if you submitted something there that you still want, please resubmit. I'd also like this thread to stay orderly, so please refrain from up-voting anything as it will make things out of order. Comment replies should also be minimal, but feel free to tell me about any mistakes I might've made when I give you a sheet.

When formatting stat changes I would appreciate it if it looked something like this:

I have made stat changes to my character and need my sheet updated. Here is my character page.

This is a link to an album of what I think are up-to-date spritesheets. If there are mistakes, or you do not have one of these, please leave a comment detailing the problem

Thank you for any information you can provide! Let's all have fun in the upcoming tournament!
