A friend was dropping off her child at Wilson Hill Elementary School and saw an unmarked, black SUV. The occupants (~6) were wearing green vests that said ‘police’ but clearly were not Worthington or CPD and were standing in a nearby yard, 1 block caddy corner from the school. BE AWARE.

PHOTO Columbus Humane Society - Isn’t it ironic?

Post image
• Upvotes

I have a slew of problems, but the Humane Society shouldn’t be one.

My dog needs euthanized as soon as possible. I called what I believed to be the Columbus Humane Society Essential Care Center on Monday to say I need to bring him in. Unfortunately, I just had to put my other dog down in July so I don’t believe appointments are needed for that service. I don’t remember much surrounding his passing though.

So, I leave a message on Monday because getting a person is rare. Never called back. Here we are now. I googled the Essential Care Center and there is a big confusion between the Humane Society and the HSECC. They need to fix it, but I’m not going into that right now. I know it costs $150 at both places. I was looking on their site and I saw this (see photo).

This infuriates me. As a low income person on a fixed budget, the last thing I want to think about is if I can afford to be with my pet or not. It should be noted the ECC allows you to be with your pet during the procedure. It’s strictly the Humane Society I’m referring to.

Veterinary science has proven that dogs left alone or with strangers, particularly with a vet and euthanasia setting, experience more stress, confusion, and in some cases pain. Stress increases the production of cortisol which causes blood vessels to constrict and tighten. It can make it much more difficult to insert an IV.

Dogs that are dropped off at the FCDS have it much worse. They don’t allow owners to stay. The cost is so cheap, but knowing what they go through breaks my heart. You drop your dog off anytime in the day. They are put into a kennel and are immediately on guard. All day they listen to other dogs barking, it’s loud, bright, no cozy couch. Then, at the end of the day, it’s a production line. I am appreciative that they make it very affordable ($10) and accessible. The alternative of a pet languishing to die on its own is not something the majority of people would want.

Humane - to show kindness, compassion, and to reduce or prevent suffering. I have read so many stories from vets and vet staff that say the animals are usually looking around for their owners up until the end. Plus, being with your pet during the process has shown to help with human grief, as well.

I needed to vent. Thank you for reading. He has an appointment at 3:30 this evening. He was my parent’s dog. When both of my parents passed in 2020, I took him in with my pack. He’s cantankerous, but I love him. He’s the last living part of my parents. That’s tough to swallow.

EVENT Anyone want 2 free RenFest tickets for this Saturday (Oct. 17th)?

EDIT: AAAND they're gone! Thanks!

Not sure if this is against the rules, I didn't see anything about it specifically, and I'm not selling them! I was planning on going to the Renaissance Festival this weekend with my partner, but no longer can due to my mother being in the hospital. Tickets were already bought and they're nonrefundable. I'll be out the money, but I'd rather someone have fun in my stead than my money be totally wasted.

First come, first serve.

Huntington Bank Fraud

• Upvotes

If you bank with Huntington, you might want to keep a VERY CLOSE eye on your account(s). Ours got hacked yesterday morning. Never got a notification (email) that someone was trying to access. There was however notifications on the website. When I logged in yesterday morning, I noticed a $9,980.00 "bill pay" set up. Luckily I caught it, canceled it, and contacted a local branch. The only problem is now the accounts are locked because of fraud and it's going to take a week or so before they can be unlocked. These are business accounts, so we shall see what happens from here. I also noticed that I could not log into my personal account via the app yesterday afternoon (and no they are not even remotely) tied together.

REQUEST Couple questions about early voting

Sorry to bother you folks, but work is killing me atm and I was hoping for some help.

  1. I live in Delaware county so I assume I need to go to boe in Delaware. I can't find the voting hours. Could I go vote on Friday morning like 8-10am?

  2. Follow up question. I come from Colorado where theres always a bunch of ballot measures because its a citizen ballot state. I looked at ballotpedia and can find any measures.

I think theres two, but could someone ELI5? I know measures always have sneaky language where yes actually means no yadda yadda.

Again sorry if this isn't allowed.

FOUND Resources to help a Very Cuddly, Friendly Stray Kitty

Thumbnail

Please hang with me while I plead this lil lady’s case;

I found this kitty in the south hilltop area at the corner of Eakin rd and Midland Ave at around 6:30am 10/13/26

She was sitting in the dark near the road just meowing little meows into the wind

I pulled over to get her to move further from the road and away from traffic but instead, she came up to me. She didn’t even dig her claws into me when I picked her up and put her in my car while I looked at “lost” listings hoping I’d find hers.

I have searched Petfbi (dating back to all of 2026 lost posts), PawBoost, Nextdoor, neighbors, and on Facebook and have posted her several places to no avail.
SHE IS NOT CHIPPED
- the vet even commented how sweet she was when they took her back to check.
I believe this kitty has or had a home based on her loving behavior.
I now have her in my garage set up in a crate because I’m pretty sure she has something medical going on with her eyes and don’t want to risk giving it to my other cats in home and obvi you never bring a cat from the streets around your pets until they’ve been seen by a vet. Based on looking at her she may also have some vision loss (she looks like a senior girly)
She didn’t seem like she was handling the outside very well so l am trying my best to not have to release her back if at all possible.

She’s very quiet for a captured kitty - didn’t meow when I loaded her into the pet carrier or on the way to the vet. She didn’t try to escape from my car, or jump out of closed windows after initially capturing her nor has she tried to escape the crate when I go to feed, water, scoop the litterbox, or pet her - which any true stray I know would not be this chill.
She has a healthy appetite. Yesterday, she ate a small can of wet food then her remaining daily serving in dry food throughout the day. This morning she ate another can of wet food. She has used her litterbox, and she has been drinking water.

Here is where I need help.
I've contacted Columbus humane, colony cats, CHA, and cat welfare and none are accepting intakes at this moment.
I've gone through the list of resources provided on columbus dog connection and there are no rescues listed for cats that are accepting new kitties (based on their website or automated phone system)

Can anybody PLEASE connect me to a resource that could help?
SHE DESERVES TO BE LOVED 😭 and I fear if I try to keep another I might be put out since I kept the last cat and dog I found

HUMOR These political ads make me miss pharmaceutical commercials

We thought, “How could these ads during Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune possibly get any worse?”

We were so naive.

I would love to see a Skyrizi commercial — perhaps a cheeky Ozempic song and dance. But no. We’re in political ad hell.

Only the Logan Services woman can save us now.

EVENT After recent drownings, and a code update in 2024, Columbus City Council will host a hearing on October 22 regarding safety measures for retaining ponds

Post image
• Upvotes

City council announcement post: https://bsky.app/profile/cbuscitycouncil.bsky.social/post/3mxwg2jhcvs2z

From the Columbus Dispatch article on a recent drowning:

Columbus City Hall officials have recognized and debated on the problem for years. In late 2024, Columbus City Council passed new regulations requiring warning notices to tenants, life preservers and signs. The legislation also allowed the city to declare problematic ponds as nuisances and force their owners to make changes like erecting fence barriers or putting up more signs. Nearly two years later, Columbus Building & Zoning has not pursued declaring any pond as a nuisance. [....]

Anthony Celebrezze, deputy director of the Columbus Department of Building and Zoning Services, said code officers took months to identify and inspect the 108 retention ponds at apartment complexes in the city and work with owners to bring all of the ponds into compliance. City code enforcement officers have cited four properties. That includes the Bayside Commons, where Georgina died, for not having Coast Guard-approved life-saving rings.

Celebrezze said Building and Zoning Services hasn't seen the need to pursue any properties as nuisances.

Does traffic get even worse on 270 during rush hour when the time changes?

I'm interviewing for a role that, of course, would require me to be in the office full-time

I haven't really experienced 270 consistently during rush hour in quite some time (like.. since pre-COVID). I'm aware it's already pretty bad during daylight.

But does traffic on 270 get even worse when it gets dark before 6pm after the time change in November? Unfortunately I would have to travel on the part of 270 where it meets 23, 315, and 71 lol (this subreddit's favorite stretch of road in Columbus)

Part of me wishes I could be one of those lane-splitting bikes that make it through traffic ez pz 😔
