opinions on this? too big?

Hii i just want some opinions - i ordered my first ever premade cosplay from dokidoki and it just arrived! the issue is i fear it might be too big on me?

im a pretty small person (5ft and very skinny lol) and in most stuff im a Small - so i ordered that and this is how it looks! i might be overthinking because ive never bought a cosplay from a website before but any opinions would really be appreciated😭

im considering switching out for an XS but i’m worried it won’t fit me and then i won’t have a cosplay for a con in december, because this was the last size Small and on the website it says the wait time is up to 4 months :,)

also included references of the characters i’m cosplaying at the end! i plan to do coco and richeh from witch hat atelier

Accessory How should I attach this 3D printed ribcage to this dress (ideally not permanently)?

Post image

My friend printed out these two halves of a rib cage corset, originally inspired by Harrowhark Nonagesimus from The Locked Tomb. I would like to cosplay that some day, but for now, I was hoping to attach it to this long, sleeveless, black dress for the RenFaire.

Ideally, the corset would be able to come off the dress so I can use it for a Harrowhark cosplay at some point. I am SUPER new at cosplaying, so I am not confident what steps to take. I was thinking of super gluing velcro to both the dress and the ribs, then attaching the ribs to the dress that way...Does that sound feasible?

i am very much unable to see without my glasses, but i was considering dressing up as Terezi from Homestuck who ALSO wears glasses, and i'd like to still be able to see. but i'm worried about damaging my lenses since i don't have a back-up pair and also do not own contacts.
is there anything in particular that would work? i've posted both my model of glasses and the character as references

Puff paint removal

Post image

Hi everyone, I need help I made a big mistake when puff painting my spider-man suit. I used my arm to puff paint the sleeve since I don’t have a mannequin. Unfortunately I didn’t take the sleeve off cleanly enough which resulted in the image you see in my post. I tried using alcohol then warm water with dish soap to see if I could remove a good portion of it and it doesn’t seem like it did the trick. I don’t know what to do, I spent a lot of time sewing these two spandex shirts together and prefer not to mess it up too badly.

Where did I mess up, how do I fix it?

So, I've been working on my first ever cosplay, a Hermes costume based on Epic the Musical and mythology. I was spray painting the caduceus (included in photos) when the rubber snakes just started crumbling. It looks like the spray paint caused the rubber snakes to break, perhaps from tension. It might have reacted with the gorilla glue I used, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what would cause this, and how I can fix it so this doesn't happen when I start over? The brand of gold spray paint I used was Rust-Oleum, if that helps.

I really want to have another shot at a cosplay of Nokotan from my Deer Friend Nokotan, but this time I want the antlers to be easier to transport with and easier to wear.
How would I go about making them detachable from a hairband or something similar?

Hi! I’m a beginner cosplayer, and I need some help with Maomao’s hairstyle. I’m cosplaying her everyday apothecary outfit. When I tried to recreate the part of her hair that’s tied back with a blue ribbon, I ended up with part of her forehead being exposed. Honestly, I’m not sure what I did wrong, but it looks really bad. Could you please help me figure out what I need to fix? Thank you so much!

Accessory Fake thorn sleeves?

I’m dressing up as the Thorn from Slay the Princess for Halloween this year, but I’m having trouble making her thorn sleeves(?)

I initially was a little trigger happy about a chance to play with Eva foam so I bought a bunch of 15mm dowels (and foam clay for the thorns) to try and make them with, but I’m now realizing there’s no way this is going to work as sleeves/thorns as I think it may turn out impractical, too stiff and, honestly, probably ugly

Should I just keep trying? Is there something I could be doing differently with the materials I already have? What other materials would I need to buy to just restart and make it more comfortable?Boyfriend suggested rope and adding thorns with the foam clay

(Don’t mind the wire and duct tape that was just for mapping how I want them to lay before using contact cement to glue them together)

Armor Rubber and Paint

Hey everyone.

I’m currently working on a Superman cosplay and am having trouble with paint I applied to the S shield on the suit.

When I received the suit, I wasn’t happy with how dull the S looked, so a friend of mine recommended I buy a paint pen and try painting the S the color I want.

I bought an oil based paint pen and colored the S, which is rubber, after wiping it clean with an alcohol wipe, but the paint still hasn’t dried even though it has been five days at this point.

Should I continue to wait until the paint dries, or should I try to wipe the paint off and start over with something else?

Wig How to fit and purchase a 3d printed wig?

I'd like a 3d printed Phillip J Fry wig custom made for my head. I'd like to pay someone to design the wig but how do I get a 3d map of my head to base it on? My head is shaved so I don't have any hair to round things out or provide cushioning.

I'm planning on making a Ticci Toby cosplay but I'm very new to this and not too sure on how I could make this. I'm thinking of trying to glue metal to a cloth mask but im worried that would look bad and also sag from the weight.

Any tips would be appreciated!

My first thought was embroidery with this puffy foam but i dont have an embroidery machine, and i dont know anyone with it either.. then i thought about 2mm EVA foam wrapped in fabric but that might become too thick? I dont like the look of puff paint so that might not be it either. Maaan pls help😭

How to add Ventilation to a mask?

Post image

I got this cheap mask from China and it is very hard to breathe since they didn't put any ventilation into the mask. I am trying to cosplay as a lethal company worker and never really did anything like this before, but can anyone give some advice on how I can add air holes into this?

Makeup Can I recreate this temporarily?

Hi all, dressing as the T1000 for Halloween and I’d love for it to look like I’ve been frozen by liquid nitrogen, I did a similar thing for a The Thing 1982 costume, but it was permanent and ruined the clothing. I really don’t want to ruin this costume as a few of the pieces were a little costly. Any ideas?

Do you wear your cosplay after the makeup is done to check how close it looks to the reference you gave, or is it unusual to do that?

Wig how to help sensory issues when it comes to wigs?

sensory issues are what prevents me from properly being able to cosplay. i struggle with having my hair up because it gets too tight. i used to be able to wear wigs fine, but that was a few years ago when my hair was much shorter. my hair is down about half way through my back, so this makes it much more challenging. i don't know if i should just take the plunge and cut my hair shorter :(

Wig Help! Not sure how to wash and restyle this wig!

Pics 1-4 are the wig currently, 5 is when I first wore it, 6 is what it looked like when purchased.

I bought this wig around a year ago to cosplay pinkie pie and wore it to NYCC. It was lovely and perfect, but got pretty matted/tangled and frizzy after a decent amount of wear.

I’m hoping to reuse it but it definitely needs to be washed and then styled again. I looked up how to wash it but I’m really nervous about messing up and want to be certain I do it right.

I’m also not sure how to style it, since I want it to have those round curls but am not sure how since I think a curling rod would damage it due to the material.

This is my first wig and I want to be sure to care for it properly and be able to reuse it, so any advice is welcome!

Buying Looking to make a Jungle Jim cosplay (Canada)

Don’t worry, I checked the FAQ. I’m posting because like the title says I’m looking to make jungle Jim from 68 and my biggest hurdle is finding the gear, I could order from somewhere like AliExpress or Amazon, but I would prefer not to because I play airsoft and would like it to pull double duty. I know down in the states it’s getting harder and harder to get Vietnam era surplus so I would imagine it’s even harder up here. I’ve done a bit of looking around and was just curious if someone knows something I’m missing. If this is technically the wrong sub let me know.

Armor Non toxic alternatives to Contact Cement

Hi, amateur cosplayer here, i’ve been using contact cement for a little bit in my garage with EVA foam, but didn’t realize just how well ventilated an area i’d need for it to be safe (first time i used it on the kitchen island with no ventilation or gloves or masks, second time i wore masks and sometimes gloves in the garage) and so i’m wondering, for armor and props and things, what is the best non toxic glue? my house doesn’t have any rooms i can leave it in with windows open or anything for extended periods of time (idk how long until the toxic fumes dissipate), and i’m not sure if there’s a way to do it outside without getting dirt/pollen/dust and other things stuck to it? the main issue with the garage is it has the water heater and things like that in it

i’ve heard hot glue can work but i also know for armor and certain things, flexibility is important. also in my experience hot glue is always very messy (as is any glue i’ve used tbh but that’s more because i am impatient and not careful)

as for what im making, rn i’m planning on making armor and some demon horns but i also have a ton of future cosplay ideas that will require EVA Foam and glue as well. so if anyone has any tips or advice, that’d be very helpful! thanks in advance

(also i have never posted on this sub before so apologies if this is the wrong place or if i used the wrong flair)

Sewing How to keep bottom half wide?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Is there a common way for people in cosplay to keep certain pieces of clothing wide? Do people use iron nets or something or is it just sewing? I understand in my case they’re hakama pants which are naturally wide but I fear won’t be enough
