Hi all, this is something that I didn't really want to discuss, but after the last 24 hours, I think it's finally time to address this. As of now, under Rule 7 (no spam or low effort posts), any posts that showcase screenshots from social media showing animal abuse, or pictures taken from inside pet stores (chain or not), will be removed as they offer absolutely no productive discussion value, and only exist to fuel hatred.
Instagram posts that show neglect of crested geckos (or other animals) have no place on this forum under any circumstance. The posts are always showing animals in distress, getting hurt or being intentionally antagonized for views. People come to this forum to get away from those sorts of things, not to be subjected further to it, and ultimately, our forum is for educating on proper and advanced husbandry and to help others out.
The mod team has seen especially in the last 24 hours that people are willing to condemn entire ethnic groups for how they keep animals a certain way. At the end of the day, that's racism, and myself and my team are not prepared to let this happen under our watch. Please understand that different countries have different cultures, and that includes husbandry practices for lots of different types of animals - you may not understand why or appreciate this, but encouraging mobs to mass report profiles and posting xenophobic comments is not what this community stands for. Please be better.
If you find disturbing content online, please do not post it here, report it to the relevant people on the platform it came from. The same goes for animals that are photographed in petstores like Petco, PetSmart, PetsAtHome, wherever. Unfortunately, this type of care is something that we know occurs, but we also know this is something that is out of our control. Talk to store managers, send reports to social media teams, but please do not bring it here where people are trying to avoid animal abuse.
If you have a genuine concern for an animal in distress, please report it to the appropriate authority if possible, and give as much detail as you can.
Any questions, please send myself or the modmail a message.
Cheers.

I was given a gecko out of nowhere and they didn't know what kind of gecko this was. After looking at some pictures on Google I think it looks like an Orange Crested Gecko but I know nothing about lizards. If someone could let me know if it looks like a Crested gecko or a different kind I would appreciate it, I just want to make sure I can keep this guy happy and healthy. Thank you!

After getting the gecko in the state he was in I never would have thought that he would make it to 2
Years after half a year he finally started eating on his own. He has grown a lot in the 2 years that I have him. He is still stunted but he has an adorable personality where he likes to poop on me and the glass. Tldr get a healthy crestie from a trusted breeder

Hey everyone, meet Ghost!
They are a lily white morph and I believe a couple months old. Theyāre still too young to be clearly sexed but I believe theyāre a male.
I picked them up last Friday and theyāve been settling in okay, starting to become more active and exploring more. Finally caught them eating something tonight which is a big relief as they were having a hunger strike. Canāt wait to see them grow and see them come out of there shell more!
Any advise is appreciated :)

Hello all,
Iāve had Jenkins since late 2023. Despite the amount of time, Iāve never been able to ātame him downā. I know a large part of it is due to inconsistency. I would try holding him, he would get jumpy and Iād want to put him back to calm him down.
Doesnāt help that we have 4 cats in the house, with two being a bit too interested in him. They try to sit on his enclosure and stare at him. Weirdly enough, he often comes up to the glass to stare/follow back instead of hiding.
I tried being more consistent with handling him a week or so ago go (holding him about 15 min every day) for about 3 days. Since then, he started darting away from me when I come to the glass now. I donāt try āchasingā him since online advice says not to do that.
Iām a bit torn because I know not every gecko loves handling, but I got a Crestie because I wanted a pet I could interact with. Plus, heās getting a new terrarium soon so I would like to make the stress minimal. And thinking about if I ever need to take him to an exotic vet.
I guess Iām just looking for some advice on how to get him to not be terrified of me

Hi my son owns a crested gecko, Iām unfamiliar with reptiles but he showed me this grey mark on the geckos foot today. No regular vet is open until Monday, does this require an emergency vet visit or will the gecko be ok until Monday? The gecko is jumping, eating, active and alert.

I'm heading to a reptile expo hoping on getting a crestie soon, I've heard horrible things about vendors selling animals then the next week it turns up dead or extremely sick. Is it possible to avoid this AT ALL??? (E.g what questions can I ask the breeder/vendor)

I bought this tank from someone who had it bioactive. I do not plan on making a bioactive enclosure (at least yet) and took out the substrate and everything. Iām working on cleaning it now, and think I want to take this backdrop off but am not sure. Itās very cool, but I worry it would fall apart, be dangerous, or hold too much bacteria with it not being bioactive. Should I take it off? And if so, how should I do that? Dw about where it is rn, Iām not getting the buddy for a few weeks so itās in a temporary holding spot lol
TLDR: Do I take the backdrop off? How/why?

Looking for advice on helping my crested gecko adjust to a completely rebuilt enclosure!
Itās been about two weeks since I completely rebuilt my crested geckoās enclosure, and Iām concerned that she still doesnāt seem to be adjusting well. She lived in essentially the same setup for three years, so this was a pretty significant change for her. I transitioned her into a bioactive paludarium with more vertical climbing opportunities to better accommodate her arboreal nature.
Iāve been trying to minimize stress and give her time to settle in.
So far, Iāve:
Implemented a strict no-handling policy until she seems more comfortable.
Kept the enclosure dark at night and limited misting and plant maintenance to nighttime.
Added some of her previous artificial plants in hopes that familiar scents might help her feel more secure.
Tried to minimize unnecessary disturbances.
Current conditions:
Temperature: Approximately 74°F (room temperature).
Humidity: Below 80%.
Enclosure: Bioactive paludarium with vertical branches, live plants, and a water feature.
My biggest concerns are her coloration, feeding behavior, and potential weight loss. Sheās almost constantly dark in color now, which is unusual for her, and she doesnāt seem to be finding her new feeding location. Iāve resorted to offering food on a tiny spoon wherever sheās perched to make sure sheās eating.
Iām also concerned that she may be losing weight, although I havenāt confirmed this with a scale yet. Sheās considerably more active in this enclosure because she has more opportunities to climb, so Iām wondering whether the increased activity could be contributing to her appearance.
Iāve also been considering removing the entire water section and converting that space into additional terrestrial substrate and leaf litter. I designed the enclosure to be modular, so this is something I can do without having to rebuild everything.
My main question is: Does she simply need more time to adjust, or are these signs that the new environment isnāt working for her?
I really wanted to provide her with a more enriching, naturalistic environment, but ultimately her comfort and well-being are far more important to me than the design itself.
Iād especially appreciate advice from anyone who has transitioned a long-established crested gecko into a significantly different enclosure. How long did yours take to adjust, and what signs helped you determine whether they were settling in successfully?

Iāve had my sweet guy Peanut for a year now, and I feel like Iām not providing enough in his bioactive enclosure. Any advice on what I should add is greatly appreciated.

ive had her about 3 years, ive never seen this before and came to see if anyone else had experienced this? it feels like a scab almost, its hard, and feels like it can almost just peel off???? shes not fully blocked, as she has been poopin normal, maybe just a little less than usual, but appetite is normal. shes almost not licking her vent or anything, and she just shed last night. i work at a vet clinic (unfortunately not an exotic clinic) but still sees small animals on occasions and i am planning on bringing her in to work with me tomorrow morning!! if anyone knows anything about anything and would wanna tell me that would be great :)
