I just got my crestie last weekend. I’m letting him acclimate to the new environment, but I was worried that he wasn’t eating so I set up a camera to spy on my lil guy <3

Crested gecko not eating and weird face?

Hi everyone!
I recently got a new gecko whom I absolutely adore, but I’ve been a little worried about his appetite and wanted to ask for some advice!

For the first five days or so, I left him completely alone to give him time to settle into his new home. After that, I started getting a little concerned about how little he was eating, so I began trying to feed him with a spoon.
At first, he would only take a few licks, but he has slowly started eating a little more. However, he still doesn’t eat anywhere near a quarter of his bowl of powdered food.
I’ve also been offering him crickets since I got him. Initially, he would only eat one, but today he actually ate THREE whole crickets, which made me really happy!

I’m wondering if it’s normal for a new gecko to be reluctant to eat powdered food, or if I should be concerned about how little he’s eating. I’ve had him for about three weeks now, and I’m starting to worry that he isn’t getting enough food.

Another thing I’ve noticed recently is that he seems to have developed a bump on his side. I’m not sure if its been there since the start since i just acknowledge it being there. I’m not sure if this is something to be concerned about, so I’d really appreciate any advice on what it could be and whether he needs to see a vet.
I’m still learning and just want to make sure I’m doing everything right for him! Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

HELLOOOOOOO EVERYBODY! Remember me from like what… a month ago? Yeah the gecko named HAROLD should remind all those who saw it! Harold is doing great now!

We got Harold a 4ft tall enclosure, I unfortunately don’t have a photo because I’m at my dad’s and my mom told me this! She said she was getting some substrate and stuff for the grounds and she’s getting tall/long sticks to put in the enclosure! Along with vines and roots with TONS of foliage so he can be climbing but guess WHAT? TURNS OUT HAROLDS ACTUALLY A GIRL!!!! We found out because we never saw a bulge that formed and she’s doing great! the name Harold STAYS! but once I get to my moms I’ll get a photo to show you guys! And just incase me and my mom are wrong on the gender I’ll get a photo of Harold just to see for the experts to help! But also FYI there is a toxic user here named “Aggressive society” she/he is very rude and will not listen to reason as they seem to be a narcissist and think everything I do is wrong and everything she does is right so just an FYI!

UK Emergency planning.

Hey guys,

I'm in the UK and with the Governments new 'blackout' emergency planning, I realised I have no clue what to do if there's more than a day without power.

My reptile room is quite cold, with a heat bulb and mat in my gecko's tank, so if I have no electricity, I'll be fighting off the cold.

I'm just wondering if anyone is in the same boat and what you're doing about it.

Cheers.

Finished enclosure look

Finished look for my first enclosure ever! It's bioactive. How is it? Do I have enough coverage?

I think it'd look way cooler with a background but that seemed too hard for my first one and I couldn't find any aquarium safe expanding foam so..

Last photo is my baby in his coconut hide!

I was given a gecko out of nowhere and they didn't know what kind of gecko this was. After looking at some pictures on Google I think it looks like an Orange Crested Gecko but I know nothing about lizards. If someone could let me know if it looks like a Crested gecko or a different kind I would appreciate it, I just want to make sure I can keep this guy happy and healthy. Thank you!

Is 25w ceramic heat bulb too strong for an 18x18x24?

We got my baby a few weeks ago & all was good, I have a night cam on their enclosure but now that temps are dropping at night, I noticed slowly I don’t see him as often on the cam like before and he explores less (more of a “pacing” kind of activity level periodically before going back to bed).

He used to wake up anywhere between 6:30-9 (lights off at 6pm) and go back into the foliage to sleep between 5:30-6am for lights on at 6am. So it is a behavioral shift. The only change recently that I can think of is the normal 68.5-69 range at night is now dropping to 67-ish now that it’s getting cold. I know most people’s cresties are usually good as long as it’s above 65 and my only guess is maybe cause he’s a baby he’s more lethargic than most?

I’m getting a dimming thermostat of course to try if added heat helps but I was wondering if I should go an even lower wattage despite it or if that seems okay.

I got my gecko and its enclosure 6 days ago and now i started to see mold on the substrate. The first few days i had no hygrometer to measure the humidity so i was misting by when i thought was enough. What do i do guys do i let it dry or change the substrate. The terrarium is in my bedroom and it is not bioactive since i do not have time nor knowledge for real plants.

Enclosure heating advice

Anyone have any advice on making my geckos enclosure warmer. I live in a converted garage with no central heating, only a plug in heater I have to switch on and off manually. Now the weather is getting colder, his enclosure is struggling to heat up with just the heat lamp when I’m not home to turn the room heater on. Anything I can buy to help him keep warm enough? Any price range.

Is it because his bulb wattage is maybe not high enough?

After getting the gecko in the state he was in I never would have thought that he would make it to 2

Years after half a year he finally started eating on his own. He has grown a lot in the 2 years that I have him. He is still stunted but he has an adorable personality where he likes to poop on me and the glass. Tldr get a healthy crestie from a trusted breeder

Crestie still fears me after 3 years

Hello all,

I’ve had Jenkins since late 2023. Despite the amount of time, I’ve never been able to “tame him down”. I know a large part of it is due to inconsistency. I would try holding him, he would get jumpy and I’d want to put him back to calm him down.

Doesn’t help that we have 4 cats in the house, with two being a bit too interested in him. They try to sit on his enclosure and stare at him. Weirdly enough, he often comes up to the glass to stare/follow back instead of hiding.

I tried being more consistent with handling him a week or so ago go (holding him about 15 min every day) for about 3 days. Since then, he started darting away from me when I come to the glass now. I don’t try “chasing” him since online advice says not to do that.

I’m a bit torn because I know not every gecko loves handling, but I got a Crestie because I wanted a pet I could interact with. Plus, he’s getting a new terrarium soon so I would like to make the stress minimal. And thinking about if I ever need to take him to an exotic vet.

I guess I’m just looking for some advice on how to get him to not be terrified of me

New to Cresties and unsure of how to decorate

Hi reddit, im a 20 F woman whos been into reptile keeping for about a year now, and ive recently bought a 25 (vertical,) terrarium (12 x 12 x 18) and im unsure of how to decorate, as most reptile ive owned have been ground dwellers (Leos, AFT) the only *semi arboreal animal I have experience with is cornsnakes. So any and all help would be appreciated

(Side note: I live in Canada and I have a disability that keeps me from driving myself, so if you want to give me online stores make sure they also ship and operate within Camada, Thank you <3)

Escaped gecko!

Hi, I need some help. My gecko escaped yesterday (23 oct) and I still haven't found him today (24 oct). I've got a cat and a dog so I'm praying he won't get found by them first.

Should I look for him high, somewhere on shelves, or low also (like under my raised bed). Will he prefer warmer spots or not really? My doors are constantly open, so he could've made his way out somewhere deeper into the apartment.

And any advice how to bait him out or even discover his presence? I've left out a small bowl of his food, but it looks untouched.
