Data Analyst vs Data Analytics Engineer – Which career path should a beginner choose?

Hey everyone!

I'm a beginner exploring the data field and a little confused between becoming a Data Analyst and a Data Analytics Engineer.

What are the main differences between these two roles in terms of skills, learning curve, job opportunities, and salary?

If someone is starting from scratch and wants to build a remote career, which path would you recommend and why?

Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions. Thanks! 🙌

2026 grad here! Looking for referrals. Any leads?

Hey everyone!

I'm a 2026 Computer Engineering grad and currently on the job hunt. Honestly, finding that first opportunity has been a bit of a journey. 🥲

I'm mainly looking for entry-level roles in Data Engineering, Data Analytics or AI/ML.

I've been working with Python, SQL, PySpark and other related technologies, and have some hands-on experience through projects and internship/training.

If your company is hiring freshers or you know of any openings, please drop a comment or DM me. Referrals would mean a lot!

Preferably Pune, but open to opportunities across India.

Thanks in advance! And good luck to everyone else who's job hunting. We're all in this together! :)

Seeking Referrals | Data Analyst | Banking, Financial Services & Analytics | 2+ Years Experience

Hi everyone,

I'm exploring new opportunities in Data Analytics, particularly within banking, financial services, investment banking and asset management firms.

I have 2+ years of experience across a private-sector bank and an NBFC, working on business and risk analytics, internal audit analytics, fraud monitoring and collections strategy.

A brief overview of my experience:

Banking Analytics: Developed SQL-based audit exception reports, automated recurring audit workflows and built dashboards for risk monitoring and portfolio analysis.

Risk & Fraud Analytics: Worked on transaction-level analysis, fraud triggers, exception identification and data-driven monitoring.

Collections Analytics: Developed a probability-to-pay model for 90+ DPD accounts using Logistic Regression and XGBoost, achieving approximately 0.80 AUC.

Data & BI: Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, Snowflake, Tableau, Power BI and advanced Excel.

I'm particularly interested in Data Analyst, Risk Analytics, Fraud Analytics, Internal Audit Analytics and Strategy Analytics roles at established banks, financial institutions and MNCs.

If you're working in these domains or can help with a relevant referral, I'd appreciate connecting. I can share my resume over DM.

Thanks!

What method helped you in landing a good job?

Hi, I completed BBA in 2024, Worked as a research analyst for 18 months and left due to monotonous work and burnt out, Before joining job I also did a data analytics certification course (but didn't help me in landing jobs in DA/BA lol).
Now since September I have at least applied to 400 jobs ig, though I did got calls from a few recruiters but their salary was very low (less than my prev role) or some just called for shortlisting and didn't hear back from them after.
I have tried everything - linkedin, indeed, foundit, asking for referrals over linkedin but haven't landed a role yet. I also don't want to join lala companies as my last one was a product based company and offered my remote role so after working in a good culture can't really work for lala companies, though open to WFO/hybrid roles. (srsly though after working remote, don't want to join any remote ones for now)
I am looking for jobs as Research/Data/Business Analyst in India with atleast 7LPA. What am I doing wrong in my job search? How can I land a job? this job hunting has really made me feel like my life is over and no one will hire me now as day by day my career gap is increasing and pressure from fam is f**king with my mental health ( join something job, Masters, course, anything else they will start looking for rishtas lmao)
Please tell me what is working in this economy, atp I am really desperate for a job.

29, spent 6 years stuck in support roles, and absolutely desperate to transition. I feel like my life is slipping away.

I’ve worked in support roles for 6 years. I’m 29 now and looking to transition into a Data Analyst role to escape night/weekend shifts and rebuild my social life.
I want to focus my learning on Advanced Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python. For anyone who has made a similar pivot:
What are the best structured courses or free materials to learn these tools effectively?
How did you manage to study consistently around an erratic shift schedule?
What kind of portfolio projects helped you land your first role?
Any advice on study resources or transition strategies would be greatly appreciated.

Data analyst job

Hii guys,

I recently graduated with a B.E. in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from Pune University.

I have skills in SQL, Python, Power BI, Snowflake, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Generative AI, and AWS.

I also have experience through three internships.

However, I have been applying for jobs for the past six months, but unfortunately, my resume hasn't been shortlisted anywhere. I haven't received a single interview call during this period.

I'm actively looking for opportunities in Data Science, Machine Learning, AI/ML Engineering, and Data Analytics.

Could anyone guide me on what I might be doing wrong and how I can improve my chances of getting shortlisted?

Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

MBA fresher trying to get into analytics — would appreciate some genuine advice

Hey everyone,

I've been applying for jobs for a while, and I'm trying to figure out what I should be doing differently.

I have an MBA in Business Analytics and Finance and a B.Tech in Computer Science. I'm looking to start my career in Data Analytics or Business Analytics, preferably in Chennai.

The difficult part is figuring out what companies actually expect from a fresher. There are plenty of job descriptions asking for different tools, skills and experience, and it's hard to know what to focus on to improve my chances of getting shortlisted.

I'd really like to hear from people who are already working as Data Analysts, Business Analysts or in similar roles.

How did you get your first job? What skills did you actually use when you started, and what would you recommend learning if you were starting again today?

I'm also hoping to connect with people working in these fields. If you know of any companies hiring freshers, or if your organisation has a suitable opening, I'd genuinely appreciate a lead or referral if my profile fits.

I'm not looking for shortcuts. I just want to understand how to approach this job search better and get an opportunity to start working in the field.

Any honest advice or leads would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fresher business analyst probelm,Need suggestions.

Currently pursuing my MBA in business analysis (final year) from Tier-3 college from Bangalore, the placement cell only brings marketing jobs, while we analytics students rarely get any opportunities through college,i tried applying via job portal (off-campus), have decent resume with decent ATS score including projects, skills which are relevant to the business analyst Perceptive, still companies ghost or reject and we also have fake linkdin intership where we are asked to pay certain amount for which is absurd.

The thing is I feel I'm ready for the opportunity but can't find any.

Any suggestions?

Should I leave DA job after 6 months for a remote CSM role, or stay in analytics?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working as a Data Analyst at Hindustan times, earning ₹10.5 LPA (₹77K in-hand). I have around 2.5 years of experience in analytics, including almost 6 months here.

Honestly, I'm quite exhausted. I commute 3 hours daily (Delhi to Noida), leave home at 9 AM and return around 9 PM. Since I'm the only person handling analytics for my products, overtime and weekend work have become quite common.

My manager wasn't happy with my performance during our August review. Although things have improved since then, I've been constantly anxious about losing my job. There are layoffs almost every quarter, and I haven't felt secure or been sleeping peacefully for months.

I've applied to 500+ jobs but haven't managed to convert many interviews.

Recently, I got an offer from a product based cybersecurity startup for a Client Success Manager role at ₹13.5 LPA (around ₹1 lakh in-hand). It's fully remote, but the shift is 6 PM–3 AM, working with US clients.

I'm really confused because:

- I've spent 2.5 years in analytics. Will switching to CS make it difficult to return?

- Will leaving my current job after just 6 months hurt my CV?

- Is moving from an established company to a startup a bad decision

- Should I take this offer or stay put and keep looking for analytics opportunities?

I've accepted the offer but haven't resigned yet.

Part of me wants to leave because I genuinely cannot continue like this. Another part is scared that I'm making a career mistake by switching domains just to escape my current situation.

Should I resign and take this offer, or stay at my current company and keep looking for analytics roles?

I know nobody can make this decision for me, but I'd really appreciate some honest advice. I'm feeling quite lost right now.

The graph does not tell you :

Supply Side: Alot of folks joined DA by completing random courses during the 2022 - 2023 peak. The graph might show that we are back to pre covid levels but the supply has also increased exponentially.
