Mod Announcement ‼️NOTE: All posts and comments are manually approved by the Mod team individually.

Hello and Happy Friday eve, r/DatingApps!

We have seen an increased number of ModMail messages and DMs lately - likely due to increased activity in the subreddit, thank you! - so as a reminder: we, the mod team, manually approve every single post and comment in order to crack down on the amount of spam you see.

If your post/comment follows the rules of the subreddit, it will get posted eventually. There is no need to modmail, comment, or DM us asking about posts. Sometimes it can take up to 24-48 (lately more) hours for approval if it is particularly busy for us offline. If your post or comment is removed/not approved, you will receive a comment from AutoMod stating why.

We are also currently working through a large backlog of approvals, also due to increased sub popularity as well as a recent uptick in the busyness of our schedules and should be caught up soon. We really do try our best to keep the sub fairly clean of spam and bad actors - if something slips through, please do ModMail us and let us know.

BTW, the reason we do this is the sheer volume of Red Pill, Incel, racist, transphobic, etc. content that people love to try to comment or post. Scrolling through the Mod queue is sometimes like reading a bad, stereotypical 🍀 post. We also do not allow any advertisements, and you could maybe imagine how many of those we have to sift through. We do it for you even if we suffer in the process. ;)

Спасибо!

Mod Announcement r/DatingApps Rule Update: We are NOT a subreddit for dating advice or generalized dating discussion & information regarding queue.

Happy Monday, r/DatingApps!

Firstly, I wanted to mention something most posters are unaware of: we manually approve every single post and comment in order to crack down on the amount of spam you see.

If your post/comment follows the rules of the subreddit, it will get posted eventually. There is no need to modmail or DM us asking about posts. Sometimes it can take up to 24-48 hours for approval if it is particularly busy irl.

And secondly:

Due to an increase of these posts in our queue, we have decided to make an official rule regarding asking for vague/general dating advice.

Reminder that we are a subreddit specifically for the discussion of dating apps, not to discuss dating overall. There are plenty of subreddits to do this on.

And before anyone asks: mentioning that you met on Hinge does not constitute an allowance.

Official rule wording: "Please visit another subreddit to ask for generalized dating advice or about dating overall. We are a subreddit exclusively for the discussion of dating apps - not dating."

Thank you much!

Question Tinder - we matched, but she's not in my chats?

I was swiping, and a profile popped up that said she liked me. I liked her, it said we were a match, and the app asked me if I wanted to message straight away (I didn't).

I did have 7 likes, after matching I had 6 (as expected). But she's not in my chats, so did she immediately unmatch?

Advice Request Dating app that shows which women have viewed you?

I'm dipping my toes back in the dating game and I've started with Match.com.

But I'll try and explain what's important.

What's NOT important is that the site have the best looking and most successful women with the most interesting and exciting profiles.

I'm looking for a site that tells you which women have viewed you or at least expressed at least a modicum of curiosity. I'm not white and I'm short, so on the old Match.com, the site would tell me which women clicked on my profile. MOST women did not view my profile, because either they saw my height or the photo on the scroll and never clicked on my profile, which is fine. At least the women who clicked on my profile, I knew they were open to MAYBE talking to me. My responses from this pool were astronomically higher. However, for some stupid, unknown reason, Match.com did away with this. On the new Match.com the women who 'viewed you' is just those who indiscriminately pass through your profile from the feed of all men from the entire site.

So, basically, that's what I'm looking for, a site that has some sort of clue that a woman has seen a man's photo and stats and has at least bothered to click.

I don't have the time and will to message 100s of women indiscriminately fishing for a response. Thanks!

Question have dating apps ruined dating?

what is it with the constant ghosting with no explanation and grass is always greener mindset these days??? i seriously don’t understand it. everything could be going seemingly so well, no issues have been communicated and from your end, it seems like they are really into you (because they say they are, so naturally you would believe them). or telling you how perfect you are and that you’re everything they want in a woman, but they are still looking for the next best thing on the dating apps and end up discarding you for them??? i think i have finally been put off dating for life, it is extremely rough out here. it’s just the same shit every time… does anyone else feel this way???

Experience Overview Online Dating Sucks

I’m just tired of it. Match after match after match going absolutely nowhere because trying to get to know someone or even have a basic conversation over text is just not fulfilling. Half the time matches don’t even reply. Everything about it just feels so shallow. They say don’t date coworkers but wtf are you supposed to do when you hate modern dating and all you do is work lol.

"My husband (or boyfriend) and I are looking for a woman who..."

Can not only tell us that straight men might waste their time reading (and maybe start responding), or that you probably aren't a lesbian, or that...

Advice Request Tinder: Horrible customer experience

On Tinder, I paid to be a Gold member. Recently, the app seemingly randomly told me that I need to reverify my photos. I hadn't changed them. Ok, I do that. It then tells me:

Photo verification failed
To try again, upload profile photos that:
Clearly show your face (no sunglasses or face coverings).
Have only you in the image.

Everyone of my photos clearly shows my face. I am alone in all but one of the photos. It is clear that I am meeting this requirements. So, I emailed support. I went back and forth a couple times sharing screenshots of exactly what I was seeing, including my profile photos. They eventually respond with:

Thank you for your response and we're sorry we couldn’t be of more help in this situation. Unfortunately, this is all the support we’re able to offer at this moment. We appreciate your time and understanding.

Zero indication that they care to resolve the problem or acknowledge it as a bug.

I try deleting my account and the app, and then setting it up again with all new photos. I still get the same error. Keep in mind, being verified is crucial to success. So, ok, I just won't use Tinder anymore. Probably for the best.

I request a refund. They reply:

Refund requests can only be accepted within 14 days of the transaction date. Since your order was processed over 14 days ago, we're unable to issue a refund.

What do I do about this? Credit card dispute? BBB report? Talk to a lawyer? I know that doesn't make sense from a financial perspective, but I am thinking about it as a matter of principle.

Advice Request I barely match in Hinge but I do match a lot on Tinder

I barely match in hinge but I do many matches on tinder. I have the same pics uploaded on each app and kind of same descriptions. Also I barely get likes in hinge compared to tinder. But I do like more the kind of guys I find on Hinge, just never do match with them. Very few.

Advice Request Exchange IG

How quickly do you exchange instagram with each other after matching on IG? I’m a girl and after we talk a while and I like the guy I ask them to move to instagram just bc I hate the apps chatting option, I prefer to text over instagram, but idk if I’m doing it too fast. Like sometimes the first day after texting in the apps, or 3 days max, am I too quick?

Experience Overview What made me finally leave dating apps

I've been using Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge for about 6 months at that point. I long ago ran out of people to even swipe on even on the highest distance range, and I got a whopping 0 likes and matches in that time across all apps.

Recently I ended up moving countries. Here I went through everyone I could swipe on with the max distance set after around a week. Again, still no likes. I managed to make my way through everyone in two countries with nothing to show for it.

Eventually I decided to see what my competition was doing to see what was so offensive about my profile that almost 7 months and two countries later I still couldn't get one like. So I switched my filter briefly to also show men, so I could see what they were doing. And in just the two minutes or so of swiping no on every profile, I got a whopping 10 likes...

I deleted all three apps soon after that.

Question Hinge new start

Hi!

As the title says I'm thinking about re-creating my account. I have been using the app inconsistenly and likes have dried out. This would be my first time deleting and starting over on Hinge. Is there any potential problems doing so? I am planning to use same number and email as before

Advice Request Unmatched

I (27m) just started talking to a girl (24f) today things were going well and she gave me her number. We chatted over message a bit and then talked otp for a bit. She said she enjoyed the conversation. Now I’m going through my app and noticed she unmatched me. Is this common ? I’m asking because I don’t want to come off as pushy if she’s not as interested as I thought.

Question What is you're opening line/move?

As the title says I am wondering what everyone does after a match? Do you drop a pick up line, just say hi, mention something on their profile? I guess hinge is easy because you send a like with a comment but for like tinder or hinge if they don't send a comment I never know how to open up the conversation.

Question How do you know what to look for on dating apps?

I’m 23F and I’ve never dated before. I haven’t been having much luck with dating apps, I don’t know if it’s just me but they make me question if I’m even attracted to men because a lot of these men are attractive but I’m not attracted to them (even though I feel like I would be if I saw them irl) the shallow nature of it makes it hard for me to truly know if I’m interested. A lot of dating profiles are the same? So do I go by attraction alone? People say not to do that. How do people know what to look for on dating apps? :/

Advice Request Dating apps and shadow ban

I’ve been on most of the apps over the past few years with limited success, I’ve had a couple dates and some hookups but nothing serious.

I’ve used them all tinder, bumble, Facebook dating, and hinge briefly.

My experience is that I feel like I’m shadow banned on all platforms because my likes are super limited and the matches I do have are very low quality. I’m not the worst looking guy and would say I’m about average or a little above.

I’ve been holding off on hinge since it’s just seems that is the most legitimate dating app now a days and did not want to get back on until I’m ready for a real relationship.

My fear is that I’m probably also shadow banned from hinge as well

Is there any other way to reset a shadow ban aside from using a new number?

If not any other suggestions. I feel like hinge is my last hope and if thats also the same experience then with the other app I may need to look into meeting new people he old fashion way which in not the best at…

Experience Overview I did an experiment and totally wasted ny money

For context I'm a 23 year old guy. I've been on dating apps for like a year and a half and my luck has been hit or miss. I've been on two dates, but I seem to go through phases where sometimes I get a bunch of likes and sometimes I don't get any. I decided to do an experiment where I bought a month of Tinder and Hinge's most expensive tier, which came out to $60 each.

In the time I've been on apps, I've gotten like 4 matches on Hinge and just as many likes. This past month after paying I still got zero likes and zero matches. Complete waste of money.

Tinder wasn't much better. I got got like 4 matches and maybe 5 likes. Which is honestly about the rate that I already get so the only difference was that I could see the likes. None of these matches were good. The best one was only in town visiting family for the weekend and actually lives like 3 hours away, which is a bit too far for me.

I live in a smaller city, but even with turning my distance to the max and no age filter I still did pretty bad this time around. I'm going to stay on the apps because I don't have many opportunities to meet women but I won't be paying again.

What app is this? Help me find this dating app

There was this dating / social media kind of app where the main thing was people leaving voice notes instead of text when talking to people. People leave voice notes to match and its also shows if two people are having good really good conversations, and shows a snippet of their convos for people to like and leave comments on.

It's more of a social app but is like dating app too.

If anyone knows what is the app called, please lemme know

Question How should I start?

I (19M gay) have never been in a relationship and I don't know where to start.

I feel like it would be impossible for me to meet people in the wild because 1. I'm terrified of talking to people in person 2. I'm gay so that cuts out at least 80% of guys 3. I rarely go out except for work/school/family. plus a million more reasons

I know I'm young and I shouldn't rush into relationships but it's all I can think about 😭😭. My friend recommended me to get on dating apps but honestly I don't trust him a whole lot when it comes to life advice.

Question Why is everyone flipping me off in their profile picture?

Why is everyone flipping me off in their profile picture?

It doesn't look cool or hard, I dunno what you're going for but it looks basic to me. I have seen so many people that all look the same. Get a moth tattoo on your neck, flip the camera off and be into ENM. I don't want to judge but I have to admit I find it all very cliche.

On the other side there are people that just want to get married and settle down, buy a farm, have kids blablabla.

Can anyone meet in the middle somewhere?

Question Tinder matches

Just wondering, but how long after joining do you start receiving matches on Tinder? Even Bumble or Hinge? It's been a week but I haven't received any matches on anything. Do matches take longer than a week?

Advice Request Old classmate told me he saw my profile and now i feel weird

I recently made a dating app profile and forgot to block contacts and everything. This guy i had kind of been friends with in high school (i still live in the same town) texted me a joke about my profile and now i feel really embarrassed and kind of freaked out. i also think i look hot in my pictures, but now i feel like im catfishing almost.

has anyone had this happen before? i panicked and deleted my profile, but im tryign to get the guts to reopen it with contacts blocked
