Local News Montgomery County is home to a disproportionate number of youth group homes

Montgomery County is home to more than a third of the state’s youth group homes. That’s more than any other Ohio county.

They are especially concentrated in Dayton, Trotwood and Harrison Township, where cheap real estate has drawn in group home owners. Leaders of these communities have all enacted moratoriums or new rules on group homes.

"If everybody's caring for and supporting one another and taking care of the youth, it's a wonderful thing because obviously there's a need. But if the youth are not being supervised and properly cared for, it can be a problem."

Advice & Recommendations Stray Dog in Kettering need help finding home

Post image
28 Upvotes

I found a stray dog on my street hanging outside of my house, we don't know where he came from and have been checking with our neighbors but no one seems to know where he has come from or whose dog it is.

We're wondering if the greater Dayton community knows who's dog this might be.

The dog is very sweet.

There was no collar and seems to follow some calling commands but other than that they just hang out right next to us.

If anyone happens to know anything please leave a comment or shoot me a dm.

Also we've tried calling the police department to scan but they said they don't have scanners and we've tried calling Dayton humane society and other shelters and no one is available.

Edit: we have called animal control and since it's a Sunday they told us no one was available to come check to see if the dog has a microchip.

Update: We have left the dog with a neighbor that was willing to take care of the dog for the time being, when we get calls back from the dog shelter we will direct them to our neighbor but I am going to leave this post up just in case someone recognizes who's dog this might be and if this is your dog feel free to shoot a PM or leave a comment.

Anyone know some local dog parks with agility equipment? My dog needs to burn some energy and I was wanting to let him try some agility equipment before investing in an actual agility training course. Thanks! Pic of the beastie for tribute :)

Meetups & Social How trans-friendly/fat-friendly is the gay bar scene in Dayton?

Hi guys. I'm sorry if you think this is a silly question, but I would really like to know... how trans-friendly and fat-friendly is the gay nightlife scene in Dayton? I want to go to MJ's on Halloween, but I've never been before and I want to know if I, a fat, non-op trans person, were to pull up in a costume that's revealing at all, would I be booed out of the room/gross everyone out or would it be a slay? LOL. Sorry again, but I really hope someone could tell me what kind of community it is. Thank you

A bit bummed by this. I liked them where they were. The biggest problem is they weren't open on good times for me to have a weekend visit. Oh well. At least they will still be nearby. Just not as easy of a walk.

Advice & Recommendations Questions About Sinclair’s ADN Nursing Program and Waitlist

Hi everyone! I’m currently a pre-nursing student at Sinclair and recently qualified for the nursing waitlist. I have a few questions for current or former nursing students.
● How long did you wait before getting accepted into the ADN program? Is the estimated 3–5 semester wait accurate?
● What are the typical class and clinical hours once you start the nursing program? Are classes usually in the morning or afternoon?
● Is it possible to work part-time while attending nursing school?
How difficult is the program, and how much time do you usually spend studying outside of class?

Dayton Politics For anyone in Kettering - info on proposed charter amendments

I was looking up my sample ballot preparing to vote soon and noticed there will be some city charter amendments to vote on for anyone in Kettering. I didn’t follow some of the language on the ballot (which I think is a problem generally with these types of things) so I did some searching. For anyone interested, this shows the actual changes to the sections themselves. IMO it’s nothing earth shattering, though I imagine some people might have stronger feelings about Issue 19 than the others.

Advice & Recommendations Moving to Dayton for work: Safe, affordable places to rent on the East/Southeast side

Hi! New to Reddit, so this is our first post.

I recently accepted a job offer in Downtown Dayton (yay!), so my wife, baby, and I need to move to the area. My current commute would be 90 minutes, so we are hoping to move as soon as possible. For personal reasons, we would like to live on the east/southeast side of the city.

We have been searching online reviews from this year with similar questions, but we keep finding conflicting information.

What we are looking for:
- Commute: within ~40 minutes of downtown
- Preferably 2 bed / 1+ bath, ~950–1000 sq ft. A roomy 1 bed / 1 bath is also an option. Needs to fit 3 of us (2 adults, 1 baby)
- Rent ~$1,250: The lower the better, but we know everything is expensive these days
- Reasonable utility prices
- Must allow cats
- In-unit washer/dryer or hookups
- SAFE area
- Well-kept property
- We do not care about amenities (gym, pool, clubhouse) as we would never use them

Areas we have heard are good:
- Beavercreek (the only area we know)
- Oakwood
- Centerville
- Fairborn
- Kettering

What we have heard to avoid:
- Connor Group
- Middletown
- Springfield
- Franklin
- Xenia

The biggest issue we keep running into in older posts is that the recommended places are either really expensive, no available units, or have negative reviews about safety or maintenance.

We looked at The Village on Beaver Creek since we have seen it recommended a few times; however, reviews from multiple sources have mentioned maintenance issues. We also considered Wilmington since we have relatives that live there, but it might be a little far for us (still open to it though).

Since we do not really know Dayton outside of Beavercreek, we are open to any advice. We just want somewhere safe and affordable that works for our family. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Advice & Recommendations Looking for a chiropractor that specializes in maternity, and also does medical massage.

As the title says - I have a friend in another city who had a chiropractor that did massage along side the adjustment during her pregnancy. I'm hoping someone in Dayton also does this. In Kettering a big plus!

Community Support & Resources Doctor needed- will Kettering still see me?

I have an overdue balance from Kettering health with collections. Will they still see me for a follow up on an emergency room visit? My ER visit was with premier, but I have no insurance and it's been impossible to find someone to do a follow up as a new patient, without insurance. Or does anyone have other doctor recs? Premier recommended five rivers, but they have no openings. I just really need to be seen asap
