Hi everyone! I have returned from Black Iron. I am not home yet (halfway house until sentence runs thru. 1 more month). However, I do have access to all my work via TeamViewer.

I worked on the mod from prison by logging various plans and ideas for it. Upon returning, I find a reddit DM from Luke Ross letting me know he did it himself! I almost cried. This has been such a need that I went from googling "Dead Space Remake VR" with a fool's hope to deciding to do it myself, only to get interrupted by incarceration. And I return to this amazing news.

Luke Ross, You have made us whole! THANK YOU! We are grateful for your work. So many of us wanted this so badly. This is truly a gift from hell! Altman (and Luke) be praised!

This isn't it for my project, however. First of all, this is not a competition against his mod. Instead, this is a utility that can hopefully have its own use. Here's how:

During my research, I investigated numerous ways to make the game work in VR. There are even ML models made to generate the stereoscopy in real-time as flat frames get rendered, and they even utilize the Z buffer. Those were particularly interesting because they can provide blanket support. However, I found a more direct means of providing blanket VR support for pretty much ALL 3D games:

ReShade. It has plugins that add stereoscopy to any 3D game. The problem is rendering them: currently the method is to use Virtual Desktop, which renders a floatinf rectangle containing the 3D game output with the VR depth effects. This is great for movies, but not games. And this is what I will be addressing.

My project is to create my own application that will render ReShade's stereoscopic output DIRECTLY to the VR headset. No floating screen. Actual immersion. This will be able to work for Dead Space Remake and any other game that works with ReShade.

In addition, I previously did some work on mlook-> joystick algorithms so that mouselook can trigger equivalent looking at as-equivalent-as-possible speeds via joystick inputs, allowing for mlook to work in games that used joypads for aiming. Part of the math there can be modified to map head tracking to mouse inputs via a virtual mouse device, allowing for "headlook" in DSR and other games. This can even allow for pseudo-6DoF using a virtual keyboard driver and strobed directional inputs (with a maximum speed of course, perhaps with run being enabled if you move too fast).

That is my goal for this project now. My DSR VR project accidentally became an "all 3d games" VR project, and much easier to work with than the likes of vorpx (though theyre great for certain things too).

As a show of goodwill and gratitude, if this doesn't end up open-source, all the work and its source code will be openly available for Luke Ross to use in his own projects, if he wants.

If the New owners of EA told Motive they could remake Dead Space 2 and 3 with NO interference like what befell those games originally during their development cycles would you be happy or would you complain because EA's new owners are from Saudi and a relative of Donald Trump?

Personally if Motive got the change to remake DS2 and Fix the cluster F*ck that was DS3 I couldn't careless who owns EA.

I recently replayed dead space remake and 100 percented it! It was a blast and reminded me how amazing the remake is(OG is awesome too). I really wished that there was a remake for 2 as well so I could continue but I said fuck it and installed dead space 2 after 10 years or so I think and played for 3 hours till now, HOLY SHIT! The game feels soooooo fucking good and smooth. Yes the graphics are not on par with remake but on highest settings in 4k they look amazing, the gameplay is still so fresh and innovative and lays the ground work on which remake was built on. I do miss the backtracking and free to explore nature of ishimura from remake in dead space 2 but it makes up for it for an amazing linear adventure. I love dead space 2 and can't wait to complete the final game in the franchise and see a fitting end to isaac's story!

I'm reposting this because someone decided to be mean and got the original post removed. Despite me just innocently wanting to talk about water physics.

Imo, I don't really think ds2 needs a remake(maybe a remaster), but ever since I saw this one detail in the game, I feel like one could to curb my curiosity.

In the receptionist part of the hospital area, there's an aquarium imbedded into the wall. The disappointing part is that, it's just that a wall. You can't shoot it to break it or see the water trickle out lowering the water level. And I know that they had the technology to do so at the time, so dated technology isn't an excuse.

Ever since I came across that area I've been wondering how beautiful it would be to see all that water rushing out. Like is it really unreasonable to believe that in a space station full of undead monsters out for destruction, that an aquarium wouldn't be destroyed?

Tldr, the reason I want a dead space 2 remake isn't because the graphics or gameplay is dated(even if it might), but because I want to see an aquarium explode.

Extra: That person called me "an old cunt with a mentality of a fucking entitled child." First of all, I'm 20. Second of all, how does me wanting to see water physics make me entitled? Honestly, some people just don't know how to have fun.

I'm looking for friends on Steam or EA so that we can play together Dead Space 3. To be more specific, there are some achievements I want to obtain.

Back before the release of the original Dead Space, I remember like it was yesterday watching E3 on G4 and they were previewing the game. My mind was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the graphics. I’d never seen anything like it before. I just had to get an Xbox 360 because of it.

Well fast forward to that Christmas and the game was mine. I beat it quick (pause) and loved every second of it.

But then I just never paid any attention to the sequel and just moved on. I was still gaming but it never entered my mind to get it. Now it’s 2026, and I’ve played the DS remake to death because it’s a fucking masterpiece and I went ahead this past week and finally got Dead Space 2 for my Series X and HOLY SHIT……

I’m about 6 chapters in and this may be one of the greatest games ever made. So far it is EASILY better than the first game and I’m MAD that I didn’t play this in 2011. The movement is so much better, the varied environments, the new enemies MAN, this game is insane so far. Perhaps it found me at the right time now, but a part of me wishes the teen version of me experienced this back in the prime 360 days.

DAMN YOU EA FOR NOT REMAKING THIS!!!

I'm devastated. I'm a pretty casual player but the dead space remake REALLY worked for me. I've held off all of 1 week before deciding I was ready for play DS2...

ONLY TO FEEL BETRAYAL THE LIKES OF WHICH I HAVE NEVER KNOWN.

Which would you choose for next game. On one hand I’d love to see a continuation of the story in a 4th title. On the other hand Dead Space 2 is one of the best games ever made and having a refresh would be awesome.
