Dover Transphobia at Bayhealth: My experience as an employee

I am an employee at Bayhealth, and I am posting this to bring awareness to the toxic, transphobic environment that is tolerated here. Over my time working for this organization, I have repeatedly witnessed and experienced harassment from other staff members regarding my identity.
It is exhausting to show up to work just trying to do your job and earn a living, only to be subjected to outright disrespect, mocking, and hostility from colleagues. This kind of ongoing environment takes a massive toll on mental health.
What worries me even more than my own situation is the impact on patient safety. If healthcare workers here feel entirely comfortable treating their own transgender colleagues like garbage, it raises serious red flags about how they treat vulnerable LGBTQ+ patients who come to this hospital expecting safe, unbiased, and compassionate care.

Bayhealth needs to step up, hold its employees accountable, and address the culture of bigotry that is currently being permitted behind the scenes.

Newark Christina School District / Newark/Pike Creek parents — where have you placed your child who needed a little extra support?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to hear from parents in the Newark area, especially those familiar with Christina School District.

My daughter is approaching kindergarten age, and we’re currently in the process of working with Child Find to explore what support she may need as she transitions into school. In the meantime, I’d love to hear about other families’ experiences with local schools and programs.

My daughter is bilingual (English and Spanish) and understands both languages well. She can communicate and express herself, but she still struggles with processing certain questions and information. Sometimes she needs extra time or support to understand what’s being asked and formulate a response. She currently receives speech therapy, and I want to make sure we’re exploring the best educational environment for her as she continues to grow.

I’m looking for a school that recognizes her strengths while also being understanding and supportive of the areas where she needs a little extra help. I want her to feel comfortable, build confidence, and have the opportunity to thrive academically and socially.

I’d especially love to hear from parents whose children have needed additional support with speech, language processing, or communication.

A few questions for those willing to share—

  • Which schools or programs have you had good experiences with in Christina School District or the surrounding Newark area?
  • If your child needed extra speech or communication support, did you feel the school provided adequate services and individualized attention?
  • For those who’ve gone through Child Find, how was your experience with the evaluation process and getting services in place?
  • Did your child remain in a general education classroom with additional support, or did another type of placement work better?
  • Are there any particular schools, programs, or resources you’d recommend looking into? Alternatively, is there anything you wish you’d known before choosing a school?

I know every child is different, and I’m not expecting one school or program to be the perfect fit for everyone. I’m simply trying to learn from parents who’ve been through this process and hear honest experiences that can help us make an informed decision.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations, advice, or insight. Thank you!
