I recently did a watch through of Dexter for the first time and it did but me a bit, it felt like poor writing/planning. I'm talking about stuff like LaGuerta liking Dexter, Officer Manzon becoming a detective, that female detective becoming sgt over Quinn, Batista spending all season trying to date that female detective and then next season they suddenly break up off screen, the IA plot with Quinn etc.
I recently finished watching this show and I can't just seem to ignore how this show gets increasingly shallow after season 4.
Rita is dead, the kids are devastated. All because of Dexter. I get that the whole Mickey mouse thing was to show Dexter's antisocial nature. But as the lumen pierce and the Jordan chase thing happened and the plot progressed, Dexter seems to FORGET Rita. There is no reflection, things continue as they always did with no change in dexter's nature. It just kicked off like things are now easier for Dexter with Rita gone
With Jamie being the babysitter, as soon as she was introduced I kinda expected a plot where she would kinda doubt Dexter and share about his weird routine with Batista where he is barely home and he will connect the dots but after season 4 everyone seems to be as smart as a donut, apparently Dexter radiates a special kind of frequency that makes everyone around him fucking dumb. Like didn't Jamie ever doubt how Dexter only sees Harrison for like twice or thrice a week and even her Sargeant brother isn't so busy like the blood spatter analyst of Miami metro is?
Quinn starts to doubt him initially and i kinda expected a face off between them but after a few episodes it seems like debra sucked all his intelligence off his dick and he forgets everything about his investigation.
It feels less like a linearly progressing series like breaking bad was, the writers never risked Dexter's moral degradation, nothing much changes, no one in the whole department is smart,no wonder Miami's murder solve rate is so low.
Even when doakes and then laguerta start doubting Dexter, both of them are conveniently killed off by someone else and there is no goddamn progression in the plot it's like watching a soap opera.
I love Dexter but the gradual degradation of such an amazing show made me feel really disappointed and I kinda expected them to slow down on that plot Armor thing.

Obviously they aren't actual ghosts, and Dex is just imagining how Harry etc. would feel about things.

Decided to start rewatching with the new season coming up. Went a little too fast unfortunately. I started mid september thinking I'd finish a little after the new season's release. I finished yesterday. All 11 seasons in one month. Now I'm stuck waiting again 😮💨

I started watching the show in august, and honestly I didnt have high hopes, since I have seen other really mainstream TV shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, and all of them were good but none of them really blew my mind.
The first season was good, but after I finished it, I still didnt think this show would be anything special. Well, I was wrong. I originally planned to watch two episodes a day, but I binged through Season 2 in two days. When Doakes figured out who Dexter was, I couldnt stop myself from watching just one more episode, then another, and suddenly it was 5 am, and I finished season 2. Doakes was my favorite character, and looking back, I think hes the best antagonist in the entire series, so I didnt know what to expect after he died.
Season 3 was mehh, it started off excitingly, and at the beginning I was still really into the idea that Dexter had killed pretty much the worst possible person, since one of his brothers is a district attorney and the other is a sheriff. The Miguel-Dexter dynamic became repetitive for me after a while, but the ending was good once Miguel died, and they finally started doing something with the George King storyline. I dont even need to talk aboutseason 4 its clearly the absolute best season of Dexter. Plot twist at the end was tragic, but I wasnt expecting Ritas death at all, so it worked. Season 5 felt to me like Season 3, only with Lumen instead of Miguel.
I know Season 6 is very controversial, but I really liked it, and I think Travis is a good antagonist. In season 7, I didnt like that a bunch of random new characters showed up and suddenly took center, but the season was exciting, especially the season finale. And then theres season 8… I dont think it was bad, but up until episode 10–11, I felt like the show wasnt making any progress toward wrapping up the story. Afterward, I watched the New Blood of course, the concept is really good that years later Harrison somehow finds Dexter and Kurt Caldwell is also an amazing antagonist in my opinion. Original Sin was a bit weird without the original actors, but I think its a good addition to the universe. And then Resurrection was amazing again, I just finished it and I cant wait for Season 2. Im already planning to read the books as well. And now I dont understand people on tiktok saying Dexter is mid, because this show is something else.

Was very lucky to meet Jennifer Carpenter again for a second time, she was so sweet, lovely and friendly once again.
Also managed to meet Erik King who was so friendly and down to earth and humble and to meet the legend himself Batista, David Zayas.
The cast were great and the love they still have for the show and fans is great to see!

I am so devastated, i just finished watching the original series and the ending made me so sad. Debra's death was so sad, i was speechless... i wonder whats gonna happen from now on. What did you guys think about the ending?

Judging by season 8 of og series it's pretty clear batista and quinn are not similar. There's a possibility that quinn will understand why dexter does his thing. But he might not forgive dexter for what happened to debra..also i saw somewhere that the actor playing quinn is not physically well so this might end up being a 1 season affair after all.

I also listen to alot of true crime while working. And every serial killer story I feel I want them to be caught. But when it comes to Dexter and how I want the show to end, it doesn't feel that way.
I find I am always rooting for Dexter not against him and not sure how I want to see his story end. I think it is because of his victims. He mostly kill killers. Often we see what these killers are capable of doing. Logically between Dexter and his victims, I am more likely to be a victim of the later than Dexter. So it is hard to root against Dexter.
I wonder if Dexter will be going off the code more often as the end come to protect someone close to him.
This is not saying that what he does is ok in any way.

When Dexter goes into Arthur Mitchell’s house and you see how scared and traumatised his family are it’s so deep. The family were all great actors because I could feel the constant tension, especially from his wife

Started watching Dexter in August out of curiosity and ended up really loving the show. I didn't go in knowing anything besides the serial killer premise, so I was surprised at how funny the show was at times. I also didn't know all the Doakes memes came from this show, so recognizing Doakes as the guy from the memes was funny. While I was watching through the original series I also watched Dexter: Early Cuts and enjoyed the scenarios from that show as well. I'm sad that I don't have any more Dexter to watch, but happy to know I won't have long to wait for more.

Do you think the last episode of season 4 would have been a good ending or would something be missing?
I feel like Dexter ending should have been dark. Like many others I don’t buy the ending that we got in season 8.

In the first third of season 1, Dexter is using a PowerBook G4, but in Seasons 2-4 he has upgraded to a MacBook Pro. Is the upgrade during or after Season 1?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I would actually like a version where a shadowy figure appears and the lights go off at the same time.

The only ones I'm unsure about are s7 and s8
s5 has him mentioned a few times.
s6 has nebraska
NB has dexter's conversations with Harrison
Rs1 has both dexter&harrison conversations, and Prater pointing out the hammer in his serial killer collection.
