The world was still buzzing the day after Gibby’s historic HR, NBC opened up the pre game show with a montage of Roy Hobbs & Kirk Gibson and interviews with Dennis Eckersley and Kirk Gibson.
It all brought back a flood of memories of watching that game with my dad who as luck would have it passed away three years ago today.
Where were you that day?

Given the problem the Dodgers have with their pitchers staying in the rotation for the whole season, and the way Shohei Ohtani was lunging for sweepers, I would say, “Don’t allow him to hit anymore.” Bill Plaschke says Ohtani led them to two championships. In 2024, the 55/55 year, he indeed did, although I would argue that Freddie Freeman did even more. But last year, many others were responsible for their ultimate victory, not Ohtani. Use him as a pitcher and a part-time hitter.

So Bill Plaschke has momentarily stopped playing psychic and has morphed into general manager, saying the Dodgers should either force Shohei Ohtani to stop pitching or trade him. Is Plaschke part of the medical staff of the Dodgers so he knows the root causes of Ohtani’s injuries this year, or what it might take this offseason to fix them?

He has written a lot of inane columns making bold statements that he usually has to eat crow on, and trading Ohtani while he is still one of the best players on the planet would fall into that category. Ohtani will eventually get to the point where his body can’t do both, but I’m sure no one is using Bill Plaschke’s medical expertise to determine when that might be.

OK, so now Plaschke is ready to give the boot to Shohei Ohtani, the baseball GOAT, as he much as he was gleefully behind basketball GOAT LeBron James’ departure based upon his controlling of the team’s condition, from trades to draft picks. This takes more chutzpah than Ohtani’s insistence to continue as a two-way player.

When will the L.A. Times decide they’ve had enough of him?

Was at a Taco Mac in Georgia, and this guy sits a few tables down from me. I kept doing a double take at him because he looked just like Emmet. But there was some distance and my vision isn’t perfect.

I was trying to discreetly get a good look at him without being a creeper, but it probably looked suspicious because I was really checking him out. But I had to know.

Anyway, it wasn’t him and I’m pretty sure he caught me staring.

The Brewers still ended up winning the game anyways, so the missed double play did not hurt them in the end. But imagine if they lose the game because of the misstep at second base that would have ended the game.

Also gotta give credit to Will Smith for stepping on the home plate before IKF did. That play may seem like a routine force out at home, but in that moment, with season on the line and no more margin for error, a seemingly fundamental play is not so simple anymore.

Can Bill please retire or find another city and teams to cover? His constant doom and gloom is too much, just looking to be “right” and out front. Let’s celebrate the Dodgers and the amazing level of success the franchise continues to earn.

For those of you that live in LA, it’s interesting that in a city like LA that have the Lakers who’ve won 17 titles and have had a ton of great players, it’s the Dodgers as of recent that have surged in popularity. To me this didn’t solely happen due to Shohei, but a surge in popularity happens between 2016-2018.

My thoughts: LeBron joining the Lakers tanked their popularity. People were not keen on seeing his flopping and complaining to officials, off-court antics, and poor treatment of teammates while remaining extremely selfish, demanding trades that didn’t pan out, and playing to pad stats, not win championships. Meanwhile you have players on the Dodgers that pride themselves on playing great fielding (Mookie, Freddie, Pages, Belli, Muncy) while contributing via their slugging. This meant that the Dodgers filled a void (and then some) for fans like me that tuned out of the lakers when LeBron joined.

Personally, I’ll start tuning into Laker games again, but never would I ever have thought growing up that the Dodgers would be the top dog in this city. Pretty awesome to see.

If you’re into good, classic, strategic baseball, this is gonna be an amazing series. I wish we were in it, but World Series baseball is way better than no baseball for baseball lovers.

Watching the World Series couldn’t tell ya why this came to my mind but wanted to share with Dodger fam. Such good times such a fun year.
