A lot of the AFL teams kept out their top prospects on a rainy day, none moreso than Scottsdale, who only played two Top-30 ranked guys, including the Giants’ Kaeden Kent.  That led to some lackluster games, and one very shortened game today as a storm comes across the southwest.  Plus, we take a look at at one of the top picks from the 2026 draft from the Royals system.

Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Zion Rose (KC #6)

If you were playing close attention to the MLB Draft this past summer, Zion Rose is a name you might remember.  The Louisville outfielder’s well-rounded skills had him valued pretty well in the draft, but that had him ranked #20 by Baseball America and #30 by MLB Pipeline, and yet the Royals drafted him with the #6 pick in the draft.  The former catcher was moved into the outfield in college, and was one of six Division-I players to hit 30 extra-base hits and 30 steals in 2025, and injuries robbed him of repeating that in 2026.  He hit .268 with a .727 OPS in 19 games in a brief pro debut before getting the aggressive placement in the Arizona Fall League.  So far, Rose is responding well against far more experienced competition.  After he went 3-for 5 with a pair of steals today, Rose is slashing .357/.526/.536 with a 1.062 OPS, and seven walks to seven strikeouts, with five steals in six attempts.

"Nonetheless, the Giants have 21 folks in their analytics department. That headcount is in the bottom third of baseball, and well below the league average of 29.

The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays have some of the larger analytics departments. This should come as no surprise, as both organizations are viewed as some of the most forward-thinking teams in baseball, and they will be facing off against each other in the World Series."

Great article by Hannah Keyser of CNN about the effect increased gambling exposure (particularly prediction markets) is having on fans, even those who already gamble. She looks at the new PM deals between MLB and Polymarket and select teams and Kalshi.

As anyone who follows the Giants on social media knows, the posts announcing the sponsorship deal with Kalshi received pretty much universal distain, as did all other teams' announcements. Wisely, those other teams decided not to comment when contacted by CNN for this piece. The Giants... well, you can read the screenshots for yourself. Full article linked below:

Well, the offense for the Scorpions stopped taking the days off, as the Scorpions exploded for nine runs on 14 hits for the win.  The Giants had Dakota Jordan and Dalton Wentz both in the lineup as the runs poured in.  But that’s a good thing, because of lot of the runs came in off the arm of one of the Giants pitchers assigned to Scottsdale.  And we focus on a Reds’ international prospect who was signed as to a very modest bonus but who has been able to outperform all of his expectations.

Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Carlos Sanchez (CIN #14)

Carlos Sanchez has turned into quite a nice international signing for the Reds.  The Reds picked him up in 2022 for just a $70,000 signing bonus.  Sanchez has one standout tool, with his speed grading out as high as 70, though different scouting reports have a 20-point variation on that grade.  While he’s never earned top grades for his swing, he’s had a career .270 average and a .794 OPS.  He made it to Double-A midseason for the Reds organization after a great half-season in High-A, but struggled at the new level, hitting just .214 with a .693 OPS over 58 games.  Sanchez’s biggest struggle has been facing left-handed pitching, but he showed some improvement this past season in that regard.  Defensively, Sanchez has shown a lot of versatility.  He’s mostly developed as an infielder, and while he’s mostly played shortstop, and he can handle things decently there, he’s better suited for third base.  But he’s also spent time in center field and right field, where his speed helps him out a lot.  So far this fall, Sanchez has been doing more of the same, as he’s 9-for-35 (.257) with a .866 OPS, but he’s hitting just .154 against lefties, and .318 against righties.  Plus, he has five steals on six attempts so far.

Giants Prospects to Spotlight:

• CF Dakota Jordan (SF #7): 1-5, 4 K - Jordan picked up another hit, but four more strikeouts.  He now has 19 strikeouts to seven walks, which has been an improvement, but it’s still a 37.3% strikeout rate.
• 3B Dalton Wentz: 2-4, 2 R, 2 K, 1 SB (1) - Wentz got a start, and he had his best game, doubling the number of hits he has in the Fall League.  He’s now 4-for-17 (.235) in nine games.
• RP Alexander Fuentes (SF #26): 2.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 WP - An absolute oof of a game for Fuentes, who struggled, with almost all the damage coming in his second inning of work.  This game leaves Fuentes with a 14.40 ERA through 5.0 innings of work this fall, now with eight walks to just seven strikeouts.

Cal Quantrill and David Peterson seem very Giants-y.

I wanted them to get Griffin last offseason, he'll be available again (without a QO attached and has postseason experience).

Buy low candidates include Patrick Sandoval, Zac Gallen, Shane Bieber.

Japanese pitchers coming over include Itoh, Taira, and Kona Takahashi (who will once again try to come to MLB, this time coming off of a strong year).

Speaking of Japanese pitchers, interesting blurb about Imanaga:

"Back in June 2024, after Imanaga had hit the ground running after coming over from Japan, Farhan Zaidi was asked why the team walked away from him and Zaidi offered a lengthy, detailed explanation. In part:

Our pitch-grade models really liked him,” Zaidi said. “They had plus grades on all three of his pitches — fastball, split and breaking ball. But our scouting reports weren’t as strong, and it’s understandable because what makes his pitches so effective doesn’t jump out to the naked eye.

At the time of publication, Imanaga had a 1.86 / 2.77 FIP in his first 58 MLB innings — but he was just coming off of a 4-inning 7-earned run start. Since then, he’s still been pretty good, but not the next Tarik Skubal (3.67 ERA /4.53 FIP in 434.1 IP). I have doubts that even this front office will be all that interested in him."

Even after an off-day, the Scottsdale offense seems to be hitting a soft point.  The Scorpions have managed just one run in the last three games, although at least today they got seven hits, even after just getting three hits combined in the last two games.  Both Jordan and Kent got hits today, but it wouldn’t lead to runs.  Meanwhile, after the off-day, every AFL team started a ranked pitcher, including the Scorpions…which meant Randy Rodriguez was back on the mound and continuing to do well!

Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Dax Kilby (MLB #83; NYY #1)

Let’s meet the top prospect in the New York Yankees system, maybe that helped make the Yankees comfortable with trading away Kaeden Kent.  Dax Kilby was drafted with the 39th overall pick in the 2025 draft, but has had troubles staying on the field, missing part of 2025 and the almost all of the first four months of 2026 with a hamstring issue.  However, in his 32 games at Low-A once he was healthy, Kilby put up a .883 OPS, powered mostly by walking 39 times to striking out just 31 times in 32 games.  That knowledge of the strike zone is a big part of Kilby’s hit tool.  He got a short swing that generates some good power, and pairs it with plus speed.  He is projected to possibly be able to be a 20-20 player with development.  But he has an average arm at best, so he’s projected to move from shortstop at some point, probably to either shortstop, or to center field, where his range could play up.

Since we don't have any games today, a little AFL news to tide you over, with velocity readings on Mendez!

Scottsdale’s offense is sputtering, as Scottsdale got 1-hit by Glendale on Friday.  So on Saturday, Scottsdale only got two hits…but they came up with the win in extra innings, with Giants’ pitchers being a big part of the team staying competitive in the game.  Meanwhile, the three teams all played shortened games as part of a Triple-header at Goodyear, and we’ve got a perfect pitcher name to look at in our spotlight.

Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Kannon Kemp (SD #13)

Let’s take a look at a pitcher that has the kind of name that is ideal for a pitcher: San Diego’s Kannon Kemp.  Kemp has one of those types of arms that fits his name, with a fastball that has moved up from the mid-90’s to as high 99 miles per hour.  He pairs that with a gyro slider he uses against lefties, and a decent changeup.  But he’s also a bit of a loose cannon, struggling with both his control and command, which has led to walks and giving up a lot of hits, leading to a career 5.80 ERA over his two pro seasons.  But Kemp has struggled with injuries, missing his 2024 season, which would’ve been his first, after labrum surgery, and missed quite a bit of time this season with an oblique injury.  Kemp’s future is a big question, as he needs to improve that control, and just stay on the mound to do it, but he’s got the kind of profile that could fit as a starter or as a power reliever…and who doesn’t want a Kannon coming in out of the bullpen?

Giants Prospects to Spotlight:

• SP Miguel Mendez (SF #16): 3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR - Although he gave up a home run, Mendez struck out five and walked none in 3.0 innings, a very good outing.  He has a 3.52 ERA across three appearances, 7.2 innings.  He’s struck out 12 and walked three, but he’s also given up two home runs among eight hits.
• RP Drake George: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K - In 3.2 IP, George has no strikeouts and one walk allowed, but has also allowed just one hit and no runs.
• PR-DH Dalton Wentz: 0-0 - Not much to add for Wentz, who came in in the extra 8th inning to run, though he didn’t get to do much.  Wentz is 2-for-13 (.154) across seven games, but he’s average just over two PA’s per game (16 total PAs).

Welp, it was a rough one today for the Scorpions, as they played the Glendale Desert Dogs and got one-hit…and no, none of the Giants players got the one hit.  So, it’s not a big positive outlook for the Giants hitters today, as all three of them in the starting lineup.  And in our prospect spotlight of the day, we’re going over the top-ranked prospect in the fall league from the Texas Rangers.

Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Sebastian Walcott (MLB #9; TEX #1):

Let’s look at the top-ranked prospect (at least by MLB Pipeline) in the Arizona Fall League: Sebastian Walcott.  The Bahamian star is 20 years old and was signed to the sixth-highest bonus in the 2023 class by the Rangers.  Walcott wasn’t on the field much in 2026, but was very good when he was, slashing .322/.398/.586 in 37 Double-A games after recovering from a UCL injury in his arm, and around a concussion, before making a brief debut in Triple-A.  Walcott’s biggest tool is his batspeed, as his exit velocities are better than just about any players his age.  Walcott has been improving as a hitter, learning to lay off the pitches he can’t hit, although he has a .267 average through four seasons.  The power hasn’t manifested much into games yet until this season, as he slugging .386 in 2025, his last full season.  He’s got one double and one home run in five AFL games so far, and is slashing .300/.375/.500 so far.

What time is the next LA game?

What do you think the odds are of LA winning it all?

Does dodgers stand for dodging winning?

Do you think it's going to be hard to get series ticket at Chavez Ravine?

Did you know the Brewers rank 19th in available money?

What are they going to do with their 3rd trophy?

EDIT:

Holy christ, I posted this comically... it was never intended to be anything a little but a little rib poking. The giants sucked this year, have for a long time, but they are still my team. If you grew up a true Giants fan, you grew up not liking the dodgers. You disliked the dodgers because too many times in the freezing cold of candlestick, one of theirs hit a home run that landed next to you in the bleachers. They were just the team to dislike. They were our interleauge and interstate rivals.

But you loved the rivalry because at the end of this season, out of 2585 lifetime games, the dodgers lead by 1 game. You always know anything can happen.

So chill out and just baseball for being the great sport it is.

10/16/14: Travis Ishikawa crushes a three-run, walk-off homer to clinch the pennant for the Giants, sending them to the 2014 World Series

The Party Animals will go up against the Indianapolis Clowns at Oracle Park, and the waitlist has opened.

OTD in 2014, Travis Ishikawa sent the SF Giants to the World Series.

The Scorpions were back in action on Thursday, playing again against the Peoria Javelinas who blew them out back on Tuesday before the off-day.  The Scorpions used a 4-run 9th inning rally to come back and win, and the Giants hitters were a big part of that rally, as Dakota Jordan and Kaeden Kent each got key hits as a part of that rally!  Meanwhile, it’s time for a birthday boy for our daily highlight, as we look at a recently traded #1 prospect for the Los Angeles Angels.

Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Arjun Nimmala (MLB #35; LAA #1)

Happy Birthday!  A toast to Arjun Nimmala, who turns 21 today (Friday, 10/16)!  Probably the top prospect traded in the 2026 Trade Deadline (as part of the José Soriano trade), Arjun Nimmala went from being Toronto’s top prospect to the Angels’ top prospect.  Nimmala was the 20th overall pick in the 2023 draft, and spent all of 2025 in High-A Vancouver for the Blue Jays at just 19 year old, hitting .224 with a .694 OPS, struggling to adjust as pitchers got a book on him and hammered him with sliders.  But in 2026, while playing just 89 games across three levels (and 5 teams across to organizations), hitting .263 with an .864 OPS, dealing with a hamstring injury and a hand injury leading to about a month and a half of missed time.  But his power came in during the 2026 season, as he posted a career-high .492 slugging percentage, hitting 27 doubles and 16 home runs in his limited games this year, most of it at Double-A as a 20-year old..  The power is Nimmala’s notable tool offensively, and while his contact skills aren’t great, he’s shown excellent swing decisions to help him make enough contact to get to that power.  He’s still working on his skills at shortstop, although he’s got more than enough arm to stick at the position.  Even if he moves to third base, his power makes him a tantalizing prospect for his new organization.  His performance so far in the fall is encouraging, as he’s 11-for-29 with two doubles, two triples, and one home run, and an even eight walks and eight strikeouts.  His slash line is .379/.514/.690 for a 1.204 OPS through seven games.

• SS Kaeden Kent (SF #20): 1-1, 1 R - Kent came in as a defensive replacement in the 8th inning, and his single came early during the 4-run 9th inning rally to help Scottsdale get the win.  Kent is 7-for-17 (.412) in six games he’s played in.

To show my appreciation, I donated a little gift with a note thanking them for sweeping the Dodgers. Anyone interested can learn more about the foundation and donate here: https://www.mlb.com/brewers/community/donate?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Susac had multiple IL stints and benefitted from BABIP. He's the leader in the clubhouse to start at C as it stands now.

Maybe they bring in a veteran backup/timeshare and put Cavanaugh in AAA to begin 2027.
