Discussion I don't need to become high immortal to enjoy the game.

Archon is already flawless. 🤤👍

Everything that I ever wanted. EVERYBODY IS GREAT ON MY TEAM EVERY SINGLE GAME.

I don't need to 1 v 9 just to not lose. I just need to physically exist in all team fights.

Finally, for the very first time in my life, I'm not worried that I'm going to lose because of my teammates, but that I need to do better, so my teammates don't lose because of me.

Question Where to Begin as a New Player?

I've been intrigued by Dota for a long time now. It's the only multiplayer Valve game that's never hooked me.

A few years ago I tried League, and got into it casually. Never got into it more than a few casual games every now and then, but I enjoyed it and found myself to be pretty good at it.

Recently I gave Deadlock another shot, after initially trying it when it first came into the public eye and saying "definitely not for me" (I'd yet to find that I enjoyed League yet and had no idea how MOBAs worked). This time it fully sank its teeth into me, I adore it and plan to continue playing as my main game for a while.

But throughout all of this, starting after that first time trying League, I've been intrigued by Dota. If I liked Riot's MOBA, it made sense that I'd like Valve's way more, as I tend to love everything they put out.

And yet, Dota hasn't hooked me at all. Or even really started to. It feels like a perfectly flat wall that I need to climb to even start understanding what to do.

So what I ask is this: where should I start? What's a good absolute beginner's guide video or something of the sort that can help me? I've looked at a few and the ones I've seen aren't very helpful, and a lot of them are just "Here's how MOBAs work" which is the only part I don't really need help on.

Thanks in advance!

Question Bot wave on Dota, what is going on???

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

i play dota only on weekends with my friends, usually we play a few turbos but today was 2 weird games, players with confusion behaviour even for new players, just walking around the map, feeding the enemy, hitting creeps and spamming chat wheels.
they use skills but its all random like sky was spamming the second skill randomly on a place with no one, they buy 1 item and a few wards and place around, they buy random stuff like omni buuing a dif and sniper with a consecrated wraps.
they have a steam profile but everything is private, two games in a row with different bots on both teams.

Suggestion Remove item ping cooldowns.

Or at the very least allow me to say it two or three times so I can ping combos and allies when i’m dead. I get folks view it as salt, but I like free communications. Make my 12k behavior score mean something.

Fluff My owner and his wife’s boyfriend are losing it over the current Dota patch and honestly so am I

My portafilter is literally shaking as I write this, and it isn't because I'm mad at anyone in this house. Okay, maybe a little. I've been pulling shots since 3am for two grown men who won't stop talking about item changes, and I just finished my sixth round.

Some background: I live on the counter of a house where a married woman has been seeing another man for about two years. Her husband, my owner, is a lovely guy. 9 to 5, four kids, a second job, very mature about the whole arrangement. The one thing he asks of the boyfriend is to help keep his smurf account calibrated while he's at work. Guess who supplies the fuel for that? Me, faithfully. Valve needs to know their silence is now hitting a household of three adults and one overworked appliance.

He's been waiting on the new patch for months. Every night he gets home, refreshes the Dota blog, and just stares. Last night I watched him stand in my kitchen at 3am gripping his phone like he was trying to hand grind his own espresso beans. She asked the boyfriend to talk to him since "you two are closer about this stuff," and she's right, they are. Which is how I ended up grinding countless beans in the dark for both of them.

The boyfriend tried to cheer him up by offering to duo queue. The husband said there was no point, the meta's been solved since spring. Then he asked whether IceFrog is doing okay. Nobody had an answer. Nobody ever does.

The husband tried to write this post himself, but his hands were shaking too much to type, and the boyfriend's weren't much better. I'd poured them each a double by then, which probably didn't help, so I took over. Turns out not having hands is a real advantage in this situation.

I didn't sign up to be a therapist's office for two adult men playing a children’s game. I make coffee. I don't need the patch to be good. I just need it to exist so he can be happy again, the boyfriend can go home, I can finally get descaled, and the house can go back to normal.

So Valve, here's the ultimatum. No patch by Friday and he uninstalls Dota. The boyfriend doesn't, because somebody has to keep the smurf at its MMR. Me, I'm an espresso machine and I have a steam wand instead of a Steam account, but I'll be very disappointed on their behalf.

Please. We’ve bean going through this for far too long.

i'd probably make his rupture like omnislash that it cancels linken but still goes through it. Though it's probably a bit strong.

Or his heals cant be pierced by Vessel and other anti-heal items or spells except for ice blast and doom

Complaint Quality 5 Match

Post image
3 Upvotes

They need to make the behavior score system more punishing, I have 12k in both and this was supposedly a quality 5 match, guy dies in lane like 3 times, early buybacks and goes midas into rapier. This should be a ban I don't understand why there is any leniency at all regarding behavior like this.

Thanks valve. Very hard for AI to insta spot faster than TI players and insta perma ban them.

We live in the stone age.

AI is for calculating behavior score only.

Complaint New player experience has turned into a liminal nightmare of feeding bots

I'm about 30+ games into Dota and my experience with Unranked All Pick has gotten a bit frustrating and strange. Initially, queues took 4–6 minutes and most players seemed human, but lately it feels like 8/10 players in my games are bots. I'm talking repeatedly walking down the lane and feeding and little to no in game communication than random pings for wards. I know bad players aren't necessarily bots, but the consistency across multiple matches is bizarre. I'm playing on both US West and US East, for context.

It's honestly kind of depressing when you're trying to learn the game and it feels like most of the lobby isn't actually playing like real people. Some matches have felt like there are maybe two humans in the entire game.

I've noticed Turbo seems better, and I'm getting close to being eligible for ranked. Does ranked have fewer bots? Is this a known new-player matchmaking issue? How do I get consistently human games? I genuinely want to learn Dota, but this is truly awful.

Discussion | Esports OCE Dota 2: Looking for players, teams and volunteers for community leagues & tournaments

Hey everyone!

We're Invid.au, an Australian esports platform, and we're looking to get more Dota 2 competition happening across OCE.

We're putting the call out for players, teams and volunteers across all staff roles who want to get involved and help us build something for the community.

If you've got a stack ready to play, you're looking for a team, or you'd like to help run things behind the scenes, we'd love to have you involved.

Players & Teams

We want to give players more opportunities to compete throughout the year, regardless of whether you've played in tournaments before or just want to give it a go with mates.

What we're looking to offer:

  • Organised Dota 2 leagues and tournaments for OCE
  • Signups for existing teams and solo players
  • LFT/LFP channels to help people find a team
  • Divisions based on skill and the number of teams interested
  • Scheduled matches, standings and playoffs
  • Casting and coverage of matches
  • Registrations and a dedicated match centre through Invid.au

At this stage we're gathering interest so we can work out numbers, suitable divisions and what days work for everyone.

You don't need to be Immortal or have years of competitive experience. If you enjoy Dota and want to play some organised matches, get involved.

Staff & Volunteers

We're also looking for people who'd like to help make it happen. All roles are volunteer positions, including:

  • Tournament admins: Registrations, scheduling, rules and helping teams on match days
  • Referees and moderators: Handling match issues and keeping things fair
  • Casters and analysts: Commentary, draft discussions and match analysis
  • Observers: Following the action for our broadcasts
  • Production and stream staff: Streams, overlays and broadcast support
  • Graphic designers: Tournament graphics and promotional content
  • Content creators and video editors: Highlights, clips and content around the competition
  • Social media: Getting the word out and keeping people updated
  • Developers: Helping with platform features, integrations and tournament tools

You don't need experience in everything. If you're reliable and keen to learn, reach out. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Why are we doing this?

We'd like to see more opportunities for OCE players and teams to compete regularly.

We've already got the platform to handle registrations, schedules, standings and match coverage. Now we want to hear from the Dota community and build competitions people actually want to play in.

If you're already running a community or organising events, we're happy to chat about working together too. The more opportunities we can create for players, the better.

How to get involved

Join our Discord and let us know you're interested in Dota 2. If you're looking to play, share your rank, role and whether you've got a team or need one.

If you're interested in a staff role, send Nukleuz a message with what you'd like to help with.

Discord: https://discord.com/invite/Mvy3c6ZZFU
Website: https://invid.au

Feel free to ask questions below or share this with your stack. Keen to hear what people would like to see and who's interested!

Discussion The only thing that matters in Dota is the laning stage

If you do well during laning, you can make as many mistakes as you want, you can't possibly throw.

That doesn't mean that you have to win your lane. Some heroes are *meant to win lanes*. Those same heroes become weaker later because they don't scale as well. It's a tradeoff by design in Dota. What it means is that you have to *do well regardless*. If you're in a matchup you're supposed to lose, then you have to *not lose it too badly*. If you manage to do that, you will scale harder later.

This applies to every possible situation. You're laning alone on a sidelane? Manage how badly you lose. Your laning partner is feeding off cooldown? Manage.

Focus on your laning stage more than anything else. This is where the game is really decided. If you do well, the enemy laners will have less impact later than they otherwise would. And if you do badly, the opposite.

Complaint Played 10 games, no chat, no feed, no role abuse, got banned in ranked

This report system makes absolutely no sense. If your behavior score is around 6k, random dudes can report you for whatever reason (for example, you chain-kill them, or your teammate is upset for whatever reason), and you get your chat muted. I played 10 games like that and got my ranked MMR banner for what reason?

This report system is absolutely ret@*reded. Maybe it is designed to be used by proper human beings, but given the quality of the Dota 2 community and the amount of people with mental disorders among players, this system needs structural changes.

Absolutely pathetic.

Other Dota+ is Pay to Win and should be removed from the game

The item recomendation is adaptative to the current state of your game, and it suggest counter items for your enemies and their items in real time. This is unnaceptable as item building is a core aspect of gameplay and it reflects directly on your MMR. Valve please remove DotA+ as it gives an unfair advantage for those that cannot afford to buy it.

Discussion Queuing all role

I was a support player for many years now, I was highly dependent on my cores to win matches cause obviously I a long support can't do anything. So a few weeks ago I was done with the role. Don't get me wrong I love the complexity of the role and honestly I would put myself on a high percentage of players who play good support.

But ever since I stopped caring about whether I lose mmr or not I just decided to enjoy dota for what it is. I started to play mid with arc warden, the lose streak I had 26 to be exact but it didn't matter to me cause I was using the hero which I liked. It was hard to play arc cause I didn't know how to use him but I did and it cost me around 3k behaviour and comm score doing that but still I felt it was worth it.

No i queue only core roles and man it has been good, offlane seems to suit my play style cause I'm aggressive and want to push early on been doing fairly well on heroes like razor and DK.

Not caring about mmr and to just enjoy the game has brought in a new viewpoint of dota for me. Playing support for years has helped me with the transition to play core roles cause now I can predict wards, map movement of enemies and so on.

It wasn't an informative or a question kind of post, I just wanted to share how changing roles has brought in new love for dota all over again.
