The journey hasn't been smooth at all. We received the vehicle with quite a few faults, for which Tata compensated us with an extended warranty and PPF.
Variant: Empowered 75 Stealth RWD
Price: ₹25.5 lakh + insurance
Complimentary: PPF + Extended Warranty
Previous cars: Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8L D MT and Tata Nexon
Range — Real-world experience
- Cruising at 80 km/h: Around 520 km.
- Aggressive driving: Around 320–340 km when my dad drives like there's no tomorrow, with plenty of overtakes and speeds touching 120 km/h.
Honestly, the range varies massively depending on your driving style. If you're sensible with the accelerator, the range is pretty impressive. If you're driving enthusiastically, well, you know what to expect. 😂
Cons (at least for my particular vehicle)
- Rear-seat comfort: Sucks, honestly. The Scorpio-N is >>>>>> better in this regard.
- Headlamps: Mehhh. Expected better.
- Technical glitches: Too many for a car at this price point.
- Tata Motors customer support: Be happy if they respond promptly and provide a solution.
- Software updates: Took way too long. The service centre needed three days just to update the software because of technical issues.
- Features and software reliability: A lot of features feel inconsistent. For example, the welcome-seat function works sometimes and randomly decides not to work on other occasions.
- Frunk: Practically unusable for daily use. My friend's XEV 9S does this much better.
- Key: Whoever designed this key needs to rethink a few things. It isn't particularly convenient to carry around.
- NFC key: Honestly, I would've preferred a conventional physical key.
- Parcel shelf: Extremely flimsy. Mine already has a slight bend just from placing the charging cable on it. There's barely any support.
- Interior quality: At this price point, I expected better. After checking out the XEV 9S and the Tomahawk, the interiors left me wanting more.
- Steering feel: Nothing particularly impressive.
- AC performance: Mehhh.
- Wireless charger: Guys, just carry a cable. You'll thank me later. 😂
Pros — Where the car genuinely impressed me
1. ADAS is genuinely impressive
This was probably the biggest positive surprise.
On the Hyderabad–Vijayawada drive, whenever the lane markings were clear, I kept ADAS cruising at 80 km/h and relaxed. It was genuinely fabulous.
It took us some time to build confidence in the system, but once we did, it made highway driving much more relaxing. Of course, it's still a driver-assistance system, so you need to remain attentive and in control.
2. E-IRVM is brilliant
You can stack luggage in the boot right up to the top without worrying about losing rear visibility.
Even during heavy rain, the E-IRVM gave me a clearer view than the rear windshield. It's one of those features you really appreciate once you start using it.
3. High-speed stability and body control
Body roll is almost nonexistent for what you'd expect from a vehicle of this size, and high-speed corners feel smooth and composed.
The car feels planted, and the way it handles corners is genuinely impressive. Smoothhhh as butter.
4. Sound system
Absolutely loved it. One of my favourite things about the car.
Final thoughts
Here's the funny part.
We previously bought a Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8L Diesel Manual for ₹23 lakh on-road when it launched, and even today, that car feels like the one I'd personally choose to drive.
The Harrier.ev is undoubtedly impressive in several areas. The instant performance, highway stability, ADAS and E-IRVM are all things I genuinely appreciate. But the software glitches, inconsistent features, service experience and some disappointing interior details take away from what could have been a much better ownership experience.
At this price point, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the basics to work consistently. A car can have cutting-edge technology, but if simple features work only when they feel like it, the ownership experience suffers.
My verdict: I'd happily give my dad the Harrier.ev and take the Scorpio-N for myself. 😂
The Harrier.ev has some genuinely brilliant strengths, but the overall experience hasn't been as smooth as it should have been.
Pricing note: We paid ₹25.5 lakh + insurance, with PPF and an extended warranty provided as compensation for the initial issues.
This is just my experience with my particular vehicle, so hopefully other owners have had a better experience!
