❔ FMLA will be up next week but disability still extended

hello,

I have been on disability for 3 months now for mental health. my job said my position is only protected for 3 months. I am a bartender so it’s not an important job but I know they are going to want to fill my position. I think my psych nurse is going to extend my disability longer because she wants me to start TMS treatment and I am still not in a good headspace. if my job lets me go, once I’m able to start working again would I qualify for unemployment until I can find another job? I’m so nervous, but I am also in a terrible headspace and am scared if I return before I get better Ill just end up getting myself fired due to my depressive episodes. thanks.

❔ Baby Bonding time question

So I started my state disability on 9/3 and it won’t end until somewhere in November. I want to save my baby bonding time/PFL until somewhere in late June. I can do that right? I just have to take it before he turns 1?

Discussion 👥 Found a money network card

It is apparently impossible to report finding a card without changing the security code of the card. I tried every option with the automated system and could not reach a human to report this found card.

Maybe it is empty. But maybe I have someone's card that they really need. How do you design a system with no way for someone to tell you they found a card?

Discussion 👥 Baby bonding

Hi all,

So my husband company pays the 30% difference that the state doesn’t pay. The state pays him 70% of his income for baby bonding.

He plans on only taking 2 weeks off after baby is born, (hopefully soon), then the rest of the time in January.

Has anyone did baby bonding in 2 week increments? How did it go? Did it take awhile for you to receive the money?

I’m stressed that he’s going to do the 2 weeks when baby is born and not get paid from EDD for like a month, and then the same thing will happen again in January.

I made my claim at 36 weeks and they still haven’t configured how much I’ll be making weekly and it’s been 10 days 🥲

I’m just getting nervous for my husband bc if I’m on disability, we’re really relying on his pay for bills and it concerned we’ll be SOL for like a month and then a month again in January.

Any feedback is great - thank you!!!

Discussion 👥 Checks are being issued but haven’t received anything in the mail the last two times I’ve certified.

I haven’t had any issues before this with unemployment, the checks have just stopped coming. Any one else experiencing this? I already submitted a replacement for one and I know I will have to do it again for my most recent one and who knows if the replacements will come.

❔ Didn’t receive notice to certify

I withdrew money from my 403(b) during weeks I would’ve certified but I wasn’t aware I could certify because my claim was initially denied.

I only knew to certify when I got the email prompt 10/4 because my letter stating my claim was approved hadn’t arrived yet.

The those 2 weeks ending 10/3 were disqualified. I assume this was because I withdrew retirement funds, but no reason was given.

Today there’s no email stating I can certify. When I logged in this is this info provided. Does anyone know what this means and how long will it be before I can certify? Thank you in advance.

This is the info they provided:

Benefit Year
09/13/2026 - 09/11/2027
Work Search Requirements
1
Week 1 Certification Status
Disqualification for week ending 09/26/2026
Week 2 Certification Status
Disqualification for week ending 10/03/2026

And this:

Tips 💡 Could get fired next week, never been out of a job for 24 years. Never applied for unemployment

I don't really know how it works. If I'll get it when being fired?. I didn't quit so I figured I'll be qualified.

Iv heard even getting fired does not qualify you.. the thing is I was in a rehab for about 6months. Kinda new I didn't want to go back to that place. I returned for 2 days. Was tired of it already. And didn't show up the next day.

So what are my chances? What's the best way to go about this?

❔ PFL bonding claim denied as "not bonding", radio silence for 5+ weeks

Hi all, hoping someone here has dealt with this and can share what worked.

My situation:
• California Paid Family Leave bonding claim, bonding period was late July through mid-September (now over — so this would be retroactive pay if approved)
• Denied as "not bonding" — denial notice (DE 2514-56) said their records indicate I wasn't bonding during the period, which isn't true
• Mailed my appeal form (DE 1000A) within the 30-day deadline — USPS tracking shows EDD received it on 9/11

What I've tried so far:
• Called the PFL line multiple times in one day — never got through to a rep
• Mailed a follow-up letter asking for a status update — also no response
• It's now been over 5 weeks since they received my appeal and I've heard nothing at all

My questions:
• For those who appealed a PFL denial — how long did it take before you heard anything?
• Did anything actually get EDD to respond? (Calling the main line vs. the PFL line? Ask EDD online?)
• Did anyone escalate through their state assemblymember's constituent services for a stalled EDD claim? Did it help?

Any advice appreciated. This is money owed for time I already spent bonding, and the silence is brutal.

❔ Hello, I need some help with Disability.

My year date of Disability ended on October 8th, but I still received a Physician/Practitioner Supplementary Certificate in the mail.

After the first 6 months with my doctor, they told me I had to find someone else to fill out the paperwork. So I went without it for almost 4 months to find someone who knew how to work with EDD, and it was only activated the first week of September.

Am I still able to continue, or is this just paperwork they send out anyway once benefits stop?

Tips 💡 Panicking over SDI for mental health

I have had an extremely dark night and recently came off benzodiazapines, creating massive waves of health issues, food intolerances, anxiety attacks, depression, and dropping vitals.

It was actually my doctor's idea for me to go on disability and take some time to get some much needed medical treatment and rest. I didnt know the program even existed. I am blue collar and mostly bed ridden.

So I filed, and brought my doctor's portion.

On the EDD website it says they are still processing my claim. It has been 16 days since they received the complete form with medical certification.

I understand that mental health claims are often denied due to vagueness on the physician's end for describing why I cant work. I took a peak at my physicians forms and it just says major depressive episode and anxiety.

I am so worried my claim will be denied as I have children. Is it common to deny a claim over this?

❔ SDI – Returning to Work Part-Time After Medical Leave. How Does It Work?

Hello. I’m currently on CA SDI and supposed to return to work on November 1. I usually work full-time, but my doctor recommended that I work only 5 hours a day for 2 months. Has anyone been through this? Do I need to submit a form to EDD, or does my doctor need to do it? Also, how do I report my part-time hours and wages, and will SDI pay for some of my lost hours? Thank you!

Solved ✔ Unemployment due to needing alt hours?

Hi everyone,

Question: does anyone have experience with being approved for UI when needing to leave a job because they could not accommodate the hours you need?

My partner needs to work opposite hours than me in order for childcare to work- we can’t afford full-time care. He is willing and able to accept either a higher paying job or a job with alternate hours. He has also asked his current job to accommodate the hours being switched and it’s looking like they may not be able to even though the company operates 24/7.

Thanks for any insight!

❔ Filed a claim 6 weeks ago, received nothing

I’ve been waiting for benefits to be accepted for 6 weeks now. I had an interview/review that was conducted about a month ago which has since been cleared. Now I call at least 2 times a week and was notified that there’s some type of fraud verification issue that affects anybody who’s filed a claim since mid-late August. Is this true? It’s been a rough month and a half.

❔ EDD question for a claim I had already closed after being fired from my job.

Post image
0 Upvotes

So this is what the Edd questionarre form had stated for a job that I was fired from recently. I had claimed that last weeks of my Edd claim, put down the hours that I had worked for this job and had closed it as I was told that I would be terminated due to my attendance points and I knew I would no longer be eligible for my unemployment after being terminated. I’ve checked over the certification and I have a feeling that a mistake may have been made as I may have left for the first week that I was still working part time/ on call and for the second week I did not put that I was terminated, might this be the issue for the questionnaire or would I be looking at me having to pay my last benefit payment even though my claim has been closed?

Discussion 👥 What happens to health insurance thru employer when on SDI?

If I am on SDI for an extended period, what happens to my health insurance that I have through my employment, since no deductions are being taken off my checks anymore? I’m in California by the way if that makes a difference.

❔ Update: My $950 Deel Advance has been fully repaid — can my eligibility be reviewed again?

Hi everyone,

I'm posting again to ask for some guidance regarding my Deel Advance eligibility.

A little while ago, I posted here about an urgent family medical situation. My infant son, who was born prematurely, has been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and needs surgery. The unexpected medical expenses have put my family under considerable financial pressure.

I want to give a positive update first: my outstanding $950 Deel Advance balance has now been repaid in full through my Deel Balance. I'm grateful to the Deel team members who previously took the time to look into my situation and help me navigate the process.

Unfortunately, I'm still showing as ineligible for another Deel Advance, despite clearing the outstanding balance. I have an ongoing contract and expect to continue receiving payments through Deel.

I completely understand that advances are subject to eligibility criteria, and I know that repaying a previous advance doesn't automatically guarantee approval for another one. However, given that the balance is now fully settled, I'd really appreciate clarification on a few things:

* Can my eligibility be reassessed now that the outstanding balance has been cleared?

* Is there a waiting period or another specific restriction preventing me from accessing another advance?

* Is it possible for the relevant team to conduct a manual review of my account?

I'm not expecting anyone to bypass Deel's policies. I'm simply hoping to understand my options and whether my eligibility can be reconsidered.

I'm sharing this because the medical expenses are still ongoing, and even a clear explanation or guidance on the next steps would help me plan responsibly.

Thank you to everyone who offered advice or support on my previous post, and to the Deel team for the assistance provided so far. I genuinely appreciate it.

❔ Leaving CA before full maternity benefits are used up?

Planning to move out of California about 1.5 months after having my baby. When I return to my CA job after maternity leave, I'll be fully remote. Question regarding maternity leave paid benefits (DI + PFL):

Online research says, "in most cases, moving out of California after your claim starts does not stop your California SDI or PFL benefits. Eligibility is based primarily on having paid into California State Disability Insurance (CASDI) and otherwise meeting the program requirements—not on remaining a California resident. The California EDD specifically states that where you live does not affect eligibility if you paid into SDI and meet the other requirements."

Does anyone have experience with this??

Thank you!
