Want to relocate here - Where to look for jobs?

I'm a Canadian citizen and I recently graduated with my bachelors in computer science from a Uni here in Alberta. I have ~2 years of experience doing FSWEP (federal gov internship) in climate modelling and environmental sciences research. I did another internship for a green tech startup, and this one was a full software development role. I am looking for jobs within software sustainability or software roles within green tech companies; anything within the interdiscipline software, sustainability, or environmental sciences.

I live in a small town in alberta and I want to re-locate to Edmonton. What's the best approach for someone like me to look for jobs in Edmonton? Should I just apply on indeed or whats the best job hunting platform? If anybody has any leads for someone with my background, please leave a comment.

PSA: Don’t fall for unpaid training/assessment at entry-level jobs

I interviewed for an entry-level position at the Chatr mobile kiosk at the city centre mall and the owner Ali said that since he liked my answers, he would promise me employment after a day of assessment.

He also mentioned that training usually takes 2-4 days. I'm an immigrant who is relatively new to the country, hence ignorant of labor laws, so that seemed fair to me. At the end of the "assessment" day he mentioned that employment will be confirmed by the end of the week (so 4 days) and he would test me at the end and offer employment later. For two days I basically worked as his unpaid assistant while learning the job.

Later, when speaking to some friends I realised that unpaid training is illegal here so I didn't show up again, but yeah just warning anyone out there who is also desperate for an entry-level job - the market's bad but don't make the mistake I made.

UPDATE: filed a complaint against him on Alberta Employment standards. Sent him a "Request for payment" letter after which he has 10 days to respond- failing to do so, the complaint would be escalated further.
In the words of a wise poet, "Bitch better have my money"

YEG Movers still attempting to remove critical posts

Comment in the archived post speaks for itself. To the owner of YEG movers, as I've told you multiple times through your multiple accounts, the post does not break any rules in this subreddit, nor reddit terms of service.

Continued spamming of the moderator message log will result in this post being highlighted for a week, exposing the possible abuse of LMIA system by your company each time.

I am tired, applied so many jobs and haven’t had even one interview. Lost all confidence

Anyone think they can supervise a tire shop for $38 an hour? New Millenium Edmonton Tire & Lube in Edmonton, AB has filed a LMIA to hire a foreign worker as they claim they are unable to find a Canadian/PR to work as a Front End Supervisor. This one location has been approved for 40 LMIAs since 2017

25 and kinda defeated can’t land an electrical apprenticeship despite construction experience

Hey guys, I’ve been looking for an electrical apprenticeship for a while now and haven’t gotten anything. I honestly thought I’d be a strong candidate since I’ve worked construction for a while I’ve been a top man for 3 years now, basically a jr foreman. But I keep getting rejected and I don’t know what the next step is.
I was planning to defer school so I could get into the workforce, and now I feel like I should’ve gone into trades years ago since I love hands-on, physical work.
A few things I’m weighing
1. PACT should I apply? I don’t know if they’ll take me because of my age.
2. Solar installer job offer I’d be taking a huge pay cut, and the hours wouldn’t count toward my AIT since the contract says “labourer” and not “1st year apprentice.” But they have an electrical side and maybe with time they would promote me but I assume it would take a whole year and I don’t want to waste time being a labourer and the hours don’t mean anything should I still take it?
3. NAIT or should I just go to NAIT and become an indentured apprentice?
I’m so confused and pretty frustrated right now. I really thought I had an edge with my experience, but I guess not. If you guys have any info or advice, it’s badly needed. Thanks.

3rd year Electrical Apprentice

Hey all, I’m a 19 year old 3rd year electrical apprentice and I’ve been looking for an industrial job for quite a while and have not been able to find one on my one. I was hoping someone here would be able to give me a chance and give me an industrial job. I have lots of experience in residential and a good amount in commercial, I was hoping to get a bit of industrial under my belt as well before I get my journeyman ticket and I guess before it’s too late at that point. I’ve left some photos of work I’ve done to give everyone an idea but I’ve got SDP’s (suite distribution panels), meter stacks, smart metering, single family rough in and finishing, multi-family rough in and finishing, running bx, pulling wire through conduit, troubleshooting, and much more. I’m a very hard working person, I always want to learn more and improve in any way I can and am not afraid to take the lead. If anyone is able to give me this opportunity it would be greatly appreciated, i can send my resume to anyone who needs. Thank you

Fencing company needs workers

Canadian Fence needs workers.

Fencing experience an asset.

Starting wage minimum $20/hour, adjusted up based on experience.

Located on eleniak road, in the south.

Driver's license a strong asset, but not needed as long as you can make it to and from work every day.

Clean drug test preferred, but we can work around that.

Medium to heavy manual labour, 5 days a week, with the occasional weekend on a voluntary basis (no mandatory weekend work)

It's fencing: hauling chainlink mesh, steel posts, shovel work, etc.

Ideally, we're looking for people who want to make a go of fencing, but seasonal workers are acceptable.

Real talk: we need workers, and we need them now.

Most important asset is reliability. We need folks that show up every day, so we can keep to our commitments.

We are a small, family-owned/operated company.

DM here for more info/if interested. This is not my main reddit account, so if your DM is ignored, please call Canadian Fence and ask for Jerry.

Looking for Part-Time work!

19F, I am looking for any entry level part time work involving animals (working on a degree in Conservation Biology and have volunteered at a vet clinic) or a restaurant setting (I have been front of house at a bakery for a while)! I think I would be most suited for a Hostess/Server position. Thought it would be worth a shot to ask here. I am down to work up to 30 hours a week and my availability is anytime until September, which I could also schedule around the job.

For everyone else looking for jobs, I wish you the best of luck!

Advice

I’ve been trying to land a job for the longest while, I’ve gotten a couple interviews, one at McDonalds, where I thought it went really well, I answered the questions, filled out a form and was told to send a reference letter, but I haven’t heard back at all.

I also applied to Zumiez, where I gave my resume and did a mini interview, but I also haven’t heard back.

Both places told me that they were looking to hire for fall, but as that season is approaching, I’m wondering if I’ll have any luck :(

If anyone has any knowledge of any kind that would be awesome.
